  1. For those of you starving for updates: I'm not gonna provide you with any, just torture you a bit more: If the WIPs I've heard are any indication, this is going to be fucking epic. EDIT: also, blake, you still need to get me those tracks.
  2. yeah, I know; I was responding to zircon's comment that you should submit it now.
  3. Make it longer first pls. seriously, I fucking love what you have so far, but it really leaves me wanting more. Please promise me you'll stick around here and not be one of those one-hit-wonders. This site could definitely do with some more stuff like this.
  4. Holy shit, this is nice! Wow, I can't get over how awesome this is. Production sounds absolutely professional, arrangement is smooth and sexy beyond description, guitars are great. My only complaint is the percussion; not wild about either the samples or the arrangement. Definitely needs more dynamics, and I'd back off a little on the treble. You can bet I'll be keeping a close watch on this WIP, as well as anything you post in the future. As far as whether it is close enough to frog's theme, I don't think it is anywhere near liberal enough to be a problem; it's recognizeable at first listen, and it's avery creative take on it. It's not too far from the original to be accepted; in fact, I think this is exactly the sort of thing that remixers should aim for. Again, just for emphasis, this mix is absolutely fucking amazing.
  5. Practice, practice, practice, and more practice. There is no other way, or at least none that is nearly as effective. One thing to do while you're practicing that I find helps a lot is improvisation. You'll suck at improvising at first, but keep at it; it's a good way to solidify your musical knowledge, and to see what works and what doesn't. Some knowledge of music theory is helpful, but not required; I personally am completely self-taught, and have never taken any manner of music-related classes (excluding the half-hour a week of music that most elementary schools seem to have).
  6. Yeah, direct recording. Well, direct to mixer (Behringer UB502) to soundcard (EMU 1212M).
  7. Well, uh, happy birthday lol, I forgot I'd already posted in this thread, and didn't bother checking.
  8. I started doing shitty midi remixes around 14. My first mp3 remix was around 16. My first GOOD remixes (Town Life on Acoustic Guitar, A Star Freezes Over, etc) were around age 17. I'm 19 now, btw.
  9. As Dave said in the writeup, he did the vox and I did the guitar. Glad you like the mix.
  10. My only complaint is that the strings buzz on hard strumming, but that'll be an easy fixes when I get around to it.
  11. Holy fuck, that's awesome! You MUST use that in a mix. Or if you don't, I'll find some way to use it in one of my mixes, and collab with you.
  12. Sorry, but I gotta comment on this. This is a reviews forum. The entire point of it is to share what you think about a song. I can't speak for Dave, or for any of the other remixers on this site, but personally, I would much prefer it if nobody ever kept to themselves what they thought of my music, be it positive or negative. Anyway, glad you like the song
  13. Holyshitomg it's good. I just recorded a light, fingerpicked arrangement while construction guys were drilling holes in my walls, and the recording still came out rich and pristine, and with zero background noise. I think it's a safe bet that it will be replacing my Yamaha as the acoustic I'll be using in all my mixes.
  14. I agree that the guitar during the chorus isn't what it could be, but overall this song is very pretty. It's a pretty straightforward arrangement, and the samples aren't exactly stellar, but I still think it does justice to the original. Not kaijin's best, but definitely worth listening to.
  15. Um... actually, the guitar part here is the same as my original version, almost note-for-note. Anyway, glad you liked it so much EDIT: wait, when you say the original version, are you talking about my old arrangement or the version in the game? Well, either way there isn't really any section that's left out of this version.
  16. I'll let you know if it's any good when I get it. Should be arriving sometime this week.
  17. Man, it never would have occurred to me to write lyrics for this, but I think they work very well; they give the mix that extra bit of something that my original version didn't have, and Dave pulled them off expertly. Thanks!
  18. This is nice. Piano sounds really pretty, arrangement is great. In other words, exactly what one would expect from His Jigginlyness.
  19. Soon to be added to my setup: a variax 300 acoustic guitar
