  2. Hell, I'm happy with anything as long as it's easy and it works.
  3. They should add Marina from Mischief Makers
  4. I feel like I gotta leave another review every time I listen to this. This just might be my favorite song on this site right now.
  5. haHA! Roe! You finally made it! I knew it was only a matter of time. This is quite awesome. Synth guitars work far better than they have any right to, nice synths, overall badass sound. The bass is especially cool. My only complaint is that all the sounds seem to have sort of the same edge, roughness, whatever you want to call it; it would've been nice to have a couple of smoother sounds somewhere in the middle to give my ears a break.
  6. I would very much like to see something like this, as I have also been trying to upgrade from NWC to something more powerful, and am having the same issues that DZ is.
  7. Holy shit, I'd completely forgotten! um... I could be awhile. I'm already waaaaaaaaaaay backlogged for recordings.
  8. This is absolutely one of my favorite mixes on this site. It's very beautiful, and so soothing. You cannot possibly listen to this and not be happy afterward.
  9. $150 is enough for an SM57 and a cheap behringer mixer, which is what I use for recording. However, without a decent soundcard, quality won't be that great. Quite honestly, I'd reccomend saving up a bit more. The cheapest way I would reccomend to get a quality recording is E-mu 404 soundcard ($100) + UB502 mixer ($50) + SM57 mic ($90). Of course, if you already have a decent soundcard, all you need is the SM57 and the UB502.
  10. The strings leave much to be desired, but the rest is dead sexy.
  11. Hells yeah! This is quite sexy. Levels could have been evenned out a bit more, but damn this is one sexy arrangement.
  12. MOD EDIT: pixietricks was trying to respond to this post but (using zircon's mod powers) accidentally edited it and we couldn't get your post back. But we did read it, and appreciated it, so oops :> ROFL! MOD EDIT 2: ROFL @ what, pray tell? TAUCER EDIT: ROFL @ U!
  13. I should mention that what I said about recording guitars earlier was strictly referring to straight up electric guitars. With an acoustic-electric, you can generally just plug it straight in (though again, you may need a preamp or mixer to get it to the right volume)
  14. For a keyboard, you're right; you can just plug it straight into your computer. As for an electric guitar, the answer is a bit more complicated. To get the absolute most authentic sound, you need to hook it up to an amp and use a mic to record the amp. However, there are many other ways to do it which will get tones that are almost as good, and are a lot cheaper. You can plug your guitar directly into your soundcard, but it probably won't be at the correct volume; you may need a mixer or preamp to boost the signal to a usable level. This will also give you pretty crappy tone. The way to remedy that is with amp modelers. You can use an external modeler, such as a POD (and depending on your budget, there are cheaper and more expensive versions). You can also use plugins such as Guitar Suite. Guitar suite is free, and it's what I use. I highly reccomend it. Amp modelers will never be able to get you quite the same sweet tone that you can get from miking a genuine tube amp, but some can come close enough that most people won't be able to tell the difference.
  15. Also: if nobody gives you an immediate response when you come in, don't worry, just be patient. Post a link and leave the IRC window open.
  16. OMG, how can poll win? Everybody knows that poll2 is the correct answer.
  17. EVERYBODY REQUEST MORE EARTHBOUND CHARACTERS
  18. The old topic on this died, so I thought I'd start a new one. Hopefully, the mods will sticky it again. In addition to the WIP section of the boards, we also have an IRC channel (#ocrwip) on irc.enterthegame.com specifically for feedback on WIPs. It's a good place to get feedback, and tends to be more personal than the boards since it's in real time. I'm almost always in there, and if I'm in front of my computer, odds are I'll be happy to review your WIP. If you don't currently have a WIP to post, join the channel anyway. It's a good place to get a peek at what's on its way to the judges panel.
  19. Well shit! We should start another one
  20. No, but I mean, we used to have a sticky specifically titled "What hardware/software should I start out with," and it no longer exists.
  21. What ever happenned to the beginners guide to hardware/software? It seems to have dissappeared.
  22. Then you've missed out on some greats.
