  1. Damn, Shonen, I didn't even catch those references. I've just gained a whole new appreciation for yours and Jill's skills as lyricists.
  2. Thanks for all the great feedback, everybody. Much <3 for the <3er reef crew!
  3. It seems like a common question asked by people new to the forums is "what program does (remixer) use." While we have a lot of threads about what can be used, one has to do a bit of searching in some cases to find out what specific remixers actually DO use. And honestly, I'm also curious as to what some of my fellow remixers use. So why not start a thread where remixers simply say what programs/gear/whatever they use in their remixes? Could be used to educate n00bs and satisfy the curiosity of veterans as well. I'll kick it off. 4. Oh, I should've mentioned earlier; I don't use JUST guitar suite. For my more recent stuff, I've also used a seymore duncan tweak fuzz pedal.
  5. I started off with (and still use) a squier stratocaster. It's the electric guitar I used in Canvas of Dreams and Lover Reef. It's useable. But I find the more I get into electric guitar stuff, the less I like my strat. It goes out of tune quite quickly (instantly if you use the whammy bar), it's noisy as hell through an amp (especially with distortion), and its distorted tones (especially for edgy, metal-type tones) leaves something to be desired. Cleaner tones are decent, though. My advice would be this; if you just want a cheap guitar that you can play and maybe to a little recording with, but don't plan to really become much of an electric guitarist, a squier strat will probably be fine. If you have any intention of really getting into electric guitar, save your money and get something better.
  6. Um... have you heard my remixes? I play guitar in all of them. I'm actually leaning more towards the two custom guitars. My cousin builds guitars, and he's giving me a collossal discount on a custom job. I think I could probably get more bang for my buck with him than from Taylor.Either way, yes, I will most definitely be using the new guitars in my mixes. I have no idea what you're talking about... can you explain a little better? When I record electric guitar, instead of using my amp, I plug directly into my mixer, which is plugged directly into my soundcard. I then use Guitar Suite, a set of VST amp modelers from www.simulanalog.org. I plug my sm57 into my mixer (UB502), which I plug into my soundcard (E-MU 1212M). I get reasonably good sound quality from it. EDIT: simulanalog is .org, not .com
  7. For electric, I play a Suier Standard Stratocaster (cheap piece-o-shit) through a crate vtx 15 amp (cheap piece-o-shit). For recording, I usually direct record and render with Guitar Suite. For acoustic, I use a Yamaha Nippon Gakki FG80, which I record with a shure SM57 mic. I'm saving up to replace my guitars; I'll either get a Taylor T5 (yes, I'm getting the custom koa top if I get a T5), or a pair of Josh Rebick custom-built guitars (one acoustic, one electric).
  8. E, B, C#m, A, E, B, A, B, E And the chorus is (roughly) C#m, A, B (played 4 times) That's just going by ear; I haven't actually sat down and double-checked these, so some of them (especially during the chorus) might be wrong.
  9. No, actually, he didn't. Usa was gonna do the final mastering, and then his computer got pwnt, and he was completely out of touch for awhile, so I mastered it and submitted it myself, without him hearing the final version until it was already submitted. EDIT: In fact, for the record, Usa offered to render it with several other bagpipes sounds which were much more realistic, and I turned them down because I liked the feel of this one, synthy though it may be. Perhaps I was just biased because my synth's pipes were the ones I was most used to hearing. Anyway, THE BAGPIPES ARE ENTIRELY MY RESPONSIBILITY, AND USA HAD NO SAY IN THEM.
  10. If you don't want to splash out the money for amplitube or guitar rig, try Guitar Suite (www.simulanalog.org). That's what I use on most of my stuff nowadays, and it sounds pretty good.
  11. I think we have a winner. one244, two things. First, before we can make a reccomendation, we need to know how much money you're ready to throw around, what sort of music you want to do, and what (if any) external gear you have available. Second, there are several stickies in this section of the forum which answer your question already.
  12. hmm... these bagpipes are not my fault, I would have had better ones, so don't blame me here (as seen later in this thread) So you put the blame for that on your co-remixer? Lol? Are you going to stand this idly by without a single comment, Geoff? Usa's right; the bagpipe is my doing.
  13. Hehe, I had the same problem. And no, I don't understand patchmix DSP, but the way I fixed it was merely by loading a different setting; Click on the "new session" button at the top of patchmix. It's on the right-ish, right above "effect". Select a session which allows recording, such as "stereo product default." Hit ok, and you should be set.
  14. OMG SEXYTRICKS VOCALS! erm... Sexy Pixietricks vocals. This track is absolutely beautiful.
  15. This mix is definitely one of my all-time favorites. It's absolutely beautiful.
  16. Arek and whoever else may step in to on my defense: thanks, but don't worry about it. If he doesn't like the song, he doesn't like the song; you're never going to convince him otherwise. I'd rather see actual reviews than a continued debate over one particular comment.
  17. Boy, you'd almost think Arek was the one who did the mix ;p EDIT: Damn, what a waste of a 1500th post
  18. EDIT: (I won't be surprised if anybody doesn't recognize it; the source tune was about 10 seconds long.)
  19. Actually, Dave didn't mention the source in the writeup, and the "songs remixed" thing is blank.
  20. Seems like most of the attention is tis review thread has been directed at me, so before my ego gets inflated too much, I'd like to point out that this piece wouldn't have been nearly as good without Usa's help. damn straight show some Usa love f00's And rexy, don't worry. I have a feeling that this song will not kill any "zomg"s that I will be getting when my project is done. And hold up....pretzel heard this at the DC meetup....did I even ASK you *as in Geoffrey* to join the project around that time? I thought I asked you a little afterwards....Pretzel must either be smokin or thinkin of another song Nope, he's right; I showed it to him at the DC meetup. You asked me to join awhile before that.
