  1. I personally cannot wait to play the Windwaker remake I think it will look great in motion. My biggest hope is for more dungeons, and also more large islands. It just seemed like all the islands were just little bitty. Could've used some more land exploration. But yeah, totally looking forward to it
  2. So. Wind Waker remake. It's pretty much inevitable that I'll have on of these in my living room by fall. http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/23/wind-waker-hd-fall-2013/ Oh, and sort of a new Fire Emblem (it's a crossover with something else I'm not familiar with but I'll take it) http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2013/01/23/nintendo-announces-shin-megami-tensei-x-fire-emblem-game-for-wii-u/ Starting to look up for this console.
  3. This one is like really old news, but the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. I've been a guitarist for a long time, so when somebody asked me to try this guitar-toy game on PS2, I was like "Really man? I have real guitars." I took my head out of my ass, gave it a try and the rest is history. After Rock Band came out, we started having parties and trading out instruments. It was a blast. I also like Assassin's Creed. Considering that I'm usually not into stealth games I really enjoy the rush you can get from just being a thieving, murderous jerk and trying to get away with it. I can't say the same for Earthbound like some of you have. I had the scented Nintendo Power and already expected it to be awesome, and it was of course.
  4. Two instances come to mind here. The first is the excursion that I call beating R Type III. I consider it my greatest gaming achievement, being that it's probably the hardest game that I've ever played bar the Ghosts and Goblins/Ghouls series. When I beat the game we recorded it and I had several shots of rum to celebrate. I don't think I will ever try and beat it again, but if you're wanting to play something that might give you a panic attack then look no further than R type III: The Third Lightning. Not only is it difficult, it is extremely intimidating. There have been very few games that make the think "Omg, what the heck is that?" every few seconds. The second instance that comes to mind is the 'cave of ordeals' quest (thanks to the poster below for identifying this correctly) on Zelda: Twilight Princess. It wasn't anywhere near the hardest side-quest that I've played through, but it was lengthy and challenging enough. The reward simply wasn't worth it and I doubt that I will try for it again.
  5. Went shopping on my birthday and saw Wii U both the standard and deluxe editions just sitting there beyond a glass case. The console looks awesome. I'm jealous of you people. Also, Mario looks sick in HD. There is no telling what Nintendo might put out on this console. Definitely want to try Fatal Frame when it arrives.
  6. So I'm taking it that all of those secrets are supposed to be the content? Because I don't see any.
  7. Edit: Apparently there are multiple versions of the Sega knock-offs so take this into perspective before purchasing. I would also consider one of the official Sega game compilations for PS3, 360, etc. if you are in doubt or are a purist. This is the one that I received, purchased at price of 40$ locally: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=26044917&cm_mmc=SEM-_-Google-_-PLA-_-26044917 A review of an earlier version of the same device: http://sega-addicts.murnaumusic.com/?p=12534 According to multiple sources this version is Sega-licensed. The current one has more games but has swapped out a few titles, plus wireless controls in addition to ports for old controllers. So. I figured I would just add this to thread and give a little review on the Sega plug and play device that's been littering dollar general and various drugstores across the U.S. I took The Coop's advice and steered clear of purchasing one. My lady overheard my interest in it and decided to purchase one. So, for anyone who might care, here's the breakdown. There are 80 games total. 40 were originally released on the Genesis console. The other 40 are strange little games that look like they belong on a leapfrog or one of those todder consoles. Then again, some of them are interesting, but I won't dwell on them. Like the Coop said, the emulation isn't perfect on all of the games. The coloration isn't always right, and the sound and effects sound quite different on some games like Streets of Rage and Sonic. Others seem spot on, like Shinobi III, Altered Beast and Echo the Dolphin. The selection of games is pretty good. I have yet to see an actual glitch and the console is quite stable. Worth it? I don't know it's kinda a toss up, but.... The wireless controllers are decent, and the console part itself doesn't take a lot of space, but here's where the deal-sealer comes into place: The thing is a fully functional Sega console. I tested multiple cartridges plus the old controllers (it has two ports) and could not tell that I wasn't playing an original Genesis. Being that I gave my last Genesis away due to having a soft spot for kids who don't own Sega consoles, I was quite happy with it. I just had games, controllers and accessories lying around, so it has secured a welcome spot on my console shelf as the new Sega of the household. So, regarding the fact that it is a fully functional Sega, and that it has 40 games, perfect or not (but functional and responsive), plus 40 random games that are oddly amusing if not deep or of high quality, I'd say go for it. I hope that the device continues to be reliable. That will be the test. So yeah, if money's not an issue, give it a spin. Those expecting perfect emulation please steer clear. Streets of Rage 2 sounds a little out of tune at parts - Those looking for a cheap Sega plus some essential Sega games built in, consider it.
  8. I've beaten Phantasy Star IV, and I've gone through most of the first one - still working on finishing that one and I'm still early on in 2. The first one I played was IV and that's when it came on Wii's virtual console. The series absolutely blew me away. I didn't get into the series until my late 20's, so I think IV was a good place to start. The atmosphere of the games is just really intimidating and convincing. I could only imagine playing it back in the day like some lucky people have. I can't say enough good things about the Phantasy Star series. The style, music, the cutscenes when you enter a vehicle or fly through space, the story and characters. The way a giant kracken will come out and kill your ass if you get too close to the water Good stuff.
  9. I think you'll have a much easier time with a controller. The game didn't take long to beat and like that guy above said it's not as hard as 9 or 10, but it's definitely still a challenge. I'd say a couple hours if you're a seasoned Mega Man vet. Vega whooped my ass.
  10. I'm surprised at how solid the game is. Like a few others have mentioned, the only issue I have so far is the lack of a password or save, but what the hey - it gives you continues. I've taken out Chun Li, Crimson Viper and Urien. COOL weapons. Edit: Just beat it. It wasn't easy though. I had no extra lives and no energy tank by the time I took out the final boss. My favorite weapon is the one you get from C. Viper. The music on the ending credits is awesome. Also, Ryu's theme sounds great in chiptune style.
  11. http://www.capcom-unity.com/mega_man It's out. They're actually allowing a download of the game now, but the connection keeps getting reset every time I try to choose my region. It might be better to wait a while due to the immense server traffic. I'm looking forward to playing it and can hopefully take it for a spin tonight. Good luck.
  12. Yeah. I was actually shocked to hear that it didn't have online play. The game looks great and eventually I will probably get it anyway. Just a bit of wasted potential there. I'm sure the game is good though, just not as good as it could be. At least the local multiplayer will be good, as its predecessor on the Wii was a blast. Thoughts on the new Mario welcome here. How would you compare it to quality of the Wii version? Does it make any strides, and would you consider it a valid purchase for someone who has played and mastered the Wii game?
  13. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic%27s_Ultimate_Genesis_Collection This one's pretty rad. Although it doesn't have Wily Wars by Capcom. Wily Wars is a good game. It's also a bump in difficulty as well. Though I doubt it will see the light of day, legally speaking.
  14. I didn't even see Coop's post. Oh well. I already use emu anyway. My Genesis fried but I still have a decent collection of games. If the emulation were solid I'd call it a steal (and according to the coop it's not). I've never actually used a plug and play before but have heard both good and bad.
  15. I'm being completely sincere here. Forgive the lack of pretense, but I was reading through the paper, and an add for Walgreens said 30 bucks after card for a Sega plug and play, but 80 games, not 40. It remained stuck in the back of my head, as my lady and I saw it at Dollar General for 40. Again, this was 80 games and two wireless controllers. Sounds like an absolute steal to me, and looks like it will end up my christmas present as I had to fight off the urge in front of the lady. Yeah, do the math. Genesis games on virtual console - 8 dollars a pop. Times 80? 640 bucks, not including the price of classic controllers (and taxes,of course) Anyway, are you sure it's just 40? All the ones down here say 80.
  16. Thanks for this. Disco Dan has always been on of my favorite mixers on here. I find his mixes generally simplistic, close to the source material - and there's just something how they tend to be chill and exciting at the same time.
  17. I saw that one too. I hope they address the slow OS issue. There were updates that were run on the Wii to improve overall speed and performance (and many more to help curb piracy). I would say that is a valid complaint and hopefully it will be addressed.
  18. Funny how this console seems to offer everything the original Wii did and then some; Yet, the Wii was praised on its release, and this one is receiving mixed signals from the tech reviewers. Quite a few whiny tech articles out there. I think maybe some are legit (bricking during an update would make me flip) but people just seem to be whinier altogether these days, especially when you look at the positive reception from Wii U purchasers on gaming sites. Mr.Review guy had to run an update and use an SD card in order to transfer his purchases from one console to another? Wow. Personally I applaud Nintendo for even giving that option to consumers. If these are the biggest complaints that the tech reviewers can come up with then I'd say this console is a safe buy. Do any of these people even remember the issues other consoles have had with backwards compatibility? Some games not being compatible at all and uh...tossing it out the window altogether? No I don't think the console is going to be perfect but I'm still a little thrown off by the negativity. I can tell when critics are digging up dirt and I can smell it from a mile away. I'm open to criticisms from actual users (especially those on this site) but some of these reviewers online are lucky they have jobs. Just my two cents.
  19. I'll be waiting until next year. Will definitely want the deluxe version and Mario U bigtime. Yep. Generic Nintendo fan here.
  20. Anybody considering investing in Ninty stock? I'm willing to bet that there will be long lines and empty shelves this release. I don't know if the turnover will be as good as last time but its bound to be profitable. I could be completely wrong. Call it a hunch.
  21. I liked Prime 3 as well. I think the entire trilogy is good. I still haven't tried the first two with motion controls yet, and if I didn't already own 1 and 3 I would've bought the collection already. The glitch in 2 sucked though; the one where you get stuck and have to restart the entire game. Still a great series although each game has its strengths and weaknesses.
  22. I used to be a big ego-lifter, and still am to some degree. If my bench would go down by just two reps in a week, I would flip out. I don't think I'll ever be as insanely strong as I was in my twenties, but now I just have fun with it. I still care about my numbers, but I don't beat myself up if I can't pull it off perfectly. Then again, going past your limit when you least expect it is an exhilirating experience.
  23. Since you can't use eggs regularly, another easy option would be do buy those buy one get one free bags of chicken breast that Winn Dixie and other stores have. You can just thaw them out, put some light seasoning on and bake a whole bunch at once. That will cover most of your protein for about a week or more. I don't know if you like chicken though, but it's quite effective too.
  24. I eat four to six eggs a day, and my cholesterol is normal. My blood pressue is 120/80 and pulse is 64, so pretty good there. Then again, everyone's physiology is different. I would recommend cholesterol test if insurance covers it. If you're worried then there are other sources of protein. I'm just pro-egg. Easy to prepare, easy to eat, and highly effective. Some of my fellow gym rats prefer eating whey. Some just eat a couple of chicken breasts or fish. Edit: Okay. Here's a helpful article on eggs and the cholesterol debate. Hopefully this helps: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/whats-the-big-deal-with-egg-yolks-anyway.html
  25. I've been training for years. Originally started around 150 pounds, got 'bulky' around 215 pounds, now down to 202 of mostly muscle. 5'10" and won't throw up my stats in the gym for sake of sounding like a braggart, liar or both. This is going to sound a bit extreme, but here are my recommendations: Diet: Take in around 2500 calories a day. If that's not enough, go up to 3,000 or 3,200, but make it good calories. You're already taking in the right kind of calories, but be sure to get plenty of complex carbs - Whole wheat pasta, oatmeal, long grain rice, BEANS and more beans. Proteins are good - Eat a lot of eggs, preferably boiled. Start out by eating four at random intervals each day. Maybe even six. Don't worry about cholesterol. Limit other sources and you'll be fine. Stay away from sugar. A little alcohol is okay too but if you like to drink a lot stick to liquor or beverages that get you a buzz instead of throw on tons of empty calories. (red wine is recommended by the body-builders). Lean chicken breast is always good and red meat has its place. Screw over-priced protein shakes and supplements, unless you're just going for looks. If you want raw power you better eat buddy. Creatine will make you look pretty but it's all water. Oh. And nuts are great. Low sodium is good, but unsalted is best. They are high in fat, but mostly nonsaturated fat which is good for you in small amounts. Consume a handful of nuts each day. Almonds or peanuts will do. Pretend you are a friggin squirrel. Cardio: Limit your cardio. Too much will make you shrink. Leave it to maybe two 20 to 30 minute sessions per week and be sure to keep your calories up. Cardio is great and absolutely necessary but can have adverse effects on muscle gain if overdone. Cardio is pretty simple. Just do it. Swimming, running, whatever floats your boat. Hell I like the trampoline. Resistance / the real shit: I recommend three resistance workouts a week. I'm not a body builder who divides this stuff to little groups five or six days a week. I'm more of a strength trainer and weightlifter (to each his own), but this stuff will get you big quick buddy. Here goes: Have three 50 minute resistance workouts a week, with a day of rest between each (monday, wednesday, friday with your cardio sessions whenever as long as they don't overwork muscle needed for your resistance training). Be sure to hit your upper body, core, and legs. Focus on the basic movements: Bench press, squat, rows, dips, chinups, leg press, leg curls, etc. - Start out light and add resistance so that your muscles will continue to be challenged. Do NOT take more than two minutes between sets and try to keep breaks to 60 seconds. For bench and other movements that are potentially dangerous, always make sure you have a spot. If nobody is around, then don't be shy and ask someone. If all else fails, lift light and add more reps but after you get used to your movements you generally want to lift from 8 to 12 reps for mass and strength gains. Also, make sure to wear your ipod/mp3 player. It is shown to increase the hormones beneficial to increasing muscle, strength and that good thing called 'testosterone.' Be sure to eat a big, hearty meal after every workout and make sure to never go into the gym on an empty stomach. Also, ask questions in the gym. Don't be shy. See somebody lifting big or getting big? Go up to them and ask what they do. There is more than one way to skin a cat. But before you do anything, ask yourself "is this really what I want?" Do you really want to be bigger? Is that really better? Try to remember, it's all about the challenge and having fun. Don't let it bug you. And good luck. Oh, and also get plenty of rest! Edit:: There is nothing wrong with what your are currently eating. Yogurt and veggies are great so you can keep what you've been taking and throw in the other stuff. Regarding staying cut, if you up your protein and lower your carb will certainly get a smaller but more lean body. (and contrary to what I said, cardio can be done 3 times a week if you eat a whole lot of food but for some time more than twice will reduce energy needed for resistance workouts - It's all about what you're going for. Terry Crews does cardio every day, but he is a naturally massive man to start with - Everybody has a different physiology so you will have to search for you perfect balance). Okay no more edits.
