  1. Yet another Quinn Fox track that is in desperate need of Barry White esque vocals. Starts out very sexy and smooth. It's got the very ambient sound that we've come to love from Quinn, but it also has the more active drums that he introduced more and more with each track. This has a great chill vibe to it just like all the others, but this one strikes me a bit differently. It seems to have a little more R&B to it than the others, but it's still the Quinn Fox sound. Excellent stuff. The guitar sounds great. And the classic QF fadeout . Great work again mate!
  2. Ah, Quinn Foxreturns to a more chilled sound, however, I can hear the influences from his Zelda track in here concerning the drums/percussion work. A very interesting collection of rhythms. The drums drive the track in a DnB manner, but most all of the instrumental work is relaxed. In a way, Quinn made this track in a very cinematic manner when comparing it to today's film composers. Awesome! I love how the bass still remains chilled out and in that pocket. The trumpet is a little overly synthetic, but it works pretty well. I really love the flute! Excellent track Quinn. You took the best chill elements of you past mixes and combined it with the cool percussion from your Zelda track! Wonderful work!
  3. Wow, very very different sound from Quinn than what we've heard thus far from him! Orchestral with some breakbeat/DnB thrown in. Cool combination. The orch samples are synthetic and not the greatest in the world, but they certainly aren't terrible. The focus here is clearly the arrangement. The integration of both source tunes works really well! The intro synth is a little grating to my ears. The bells, while synthetic, do help set the tone of the piece. Not my favorite piece of work from Quinn Fox, but it's great to hear him branching out into musically uncharted waters!
  4. Very reminiscent of the aquatic ambience from DKC. The strings/pads felt like they had a little too much high end on them which caused them to stick out a bit much, but the general idea was there! Once again, you have the distant and detached piano that sits perfectly in the soundscape. Remind me of some of the music from FFX. The pulsating synths really drive the piece, but in a casual tone that enforces a relaxed emotion. I really feel a calmness while listening. This is great for the grey/overcast skies I'm seeing in Nashville this morning! Brilliant!
  5. Another piece that gets right to the point without any delay! Some people may not like these brief pieces, but I actually enjoy them. Almost like an interlude. The fade in is quite nice and the bells sound, as all your mixes thus far seem to, chilled and mellow. The hammer dulcimer is a little jarring for me, but it's not a huge factor since it only debuts for a short time. The fake choir sounds nice even though it's clearly synthetic; it adds a nice texture to the piece. The track is all about the different colors and elements with nothing being too prevalent, and I approve.
  6. Awesome intro with the Rhodes keys in there. All it was missing in Barry White and his sexy low voice! Good use of some quiet orchestral elements. Quinn, you know how to make chilled mixes so very very well! I can't help but find the pocket by tapping my foot and I can't seem to stop even while I type. The sound is very similar to your other two previous pieces of work, but as I heard with your second mix, the production polish on this one is even better than the first two. The piano sounds distant and detached, but it still sits nicely in with everything else! Love the bass line. It finds it's groove and it really helps carry the piece rhythmically! Another great job.
  7. Right off the bat, I'm a huge fan of the brief organ section. Very few mixes make use of the gorgeous instrument! The synth choices are, like your previous mix, retro in nature, but boy do they work. This is another gentle, lush piece. Very chilled and relaxed! There are more layers in this piece than your first mix and it shows how much polish you added to this track. The drums are a little repetitive, but with the introduction of so many different layers and elements, it's not quite as noticeable! Excellent work!
  8. Short and sweet, bottom line. Very chilled mix in a strange way. The kick is very subtle and might use a boost, but I know this is Quinn's first addition to OCR. It still has a cool lush sound to it that I heartily enjoy. The drums getting a little repetitive, but the filtering helps a bit. Cool synth choices that give it an OCR retro feel. Since the piece is short, there's not much more to say but good job!
  9. NEW REMIXER Quinn Fox Final Thoughts: Chill, Chillier, Chilliest. The man has a wonderful ability to create tracks that just want to make lounge in an arm chair with glass of wine, close your eyes, and just lose yourself. For the most part, QF's tracks resembled one another in this regard and production value increased consistently as his new tracks were released. However, there were some experimental tracks in his collection that took Quinn in a very different direction! Some attempts were better conceived than others, but it was amazing to hear him step out of his comfort zone and try something off-the-way different. Quinn is one of the old schoolers we seemed to have lost, but with any luck, we'll be lounging on our couches with a fresh glass of vino, chilling to a new Quinn Fox track in the future!
  10. Very cool synth intro. Really captures the Lufia mood/tone. Darangen is really hitting the metal aspect in this mix harder than in some of his other mixes. I enjoy the mix between the synth lead and guitar rock. The guitars still feel slightly thin for metal, but it's not a big thing. I do agree with Andy, the lead guitar is panned slightly to the left. Sounds a little out of balance, but not terribly distracting. The constant shift in drive (especially the drums) is classic Darangen and he continues that ritual here. And hey, a track without a fade out, love it . Good job on the whole mate. Get some more stuff in here!
  11. HAHAHA. Exactly what I'm talking about. The bridge section at the very beginning that you have to navigate while it crumbles; I don't want to say how many times that took me .
  12. Another rock style for Darangen to experiment in! For me, I almost hear this as an older Matchbox 20 track or something that I would hear on TLC/HGTV. I like the soft synth leads you have. Creates a warm moment in the music. Very reflective. Infact, if I didn't know this was Darangen, I would guess it was an early OA track . I like it a lot. Mixes of this type don't seem to be terribly common here on OCR and it's a great breather from the norm. After finishing the track, I feel that there is some life lesson that I should've come away with. "You know, as I looked back on my life....." Good work man!
  13. Very different style here from what Darangen has done in the past. Electro-rock is definitely a popular style now on OCR. I've been a fan of everything that you've done and instrumentally, this is pretty unique, but the VOX pulls me away from this one. The idea behind the vocals is cool, but it's execution is a bit too weak for me. It's quite pitchy and a little off tempo at times. However, it's important to realize that I'm very particular in vocals, so just remember that I'm very critical for all of them! The rhythm guitar has more meat in this track than the others have had, and I like it. The lead guitar sounds GREAT in the solo section! Overall, it's not my favorite Darangen track, but it's still pretty cool!
  14. Wow. Massive change in terms of rock style. This has metal all over it! The opening guitar SFX is great and intros the track wonderfully! The sweeping lead guitars sound great! The rhythm guitars are a little thin for the genre, but it's not too bad at all. Kudos for venturing out of the classic rock genre. This is a big success. The source has almost a celtic feel that you really nail with the more tribal style tom hits but it still maintains it's metal-esque sound. An excellent example of the contrast between heavy and light elements and how they interact with one another. The ending is a little abrupt, but that's not biggie. Very nice work mate!!
  15. NEW REMIXER Franz Keller Final Thoughts: Franz has a very specific electro sound. It's not too aggressive but it's not ambient either. The phrase that would best describe him would be "gentle house/trance" I think. His sounds, while some might say are a little dated, are phenomenal for the time that he composed them all as his mixes are all almost 10 years old! For the most part, the tracks seem to be short in length but they also appear to get right to the point! Good stuff from Franz and here's to him coming back to OCR to grace us with some new mixes!
  16. The people have spoken! I will comment on each mix, and then I'll do a short review of the entire catalog/artist here in the forum. Since I announce each artist in a new post, I'll put my "final thoughts" in the same post that announces them (if that makes sense)!
  17. Great intro! Reminds me of Stained and I like it. It then changes to more of a "Creed" picking style. I like that too! The ethereal voices sound great; adds a layer of texture that really hasn't been in your previous mixes. Guitar work is tighter too. Kick drum is thumpin' nicely in this too!! Great improvement! Hi-hats sound a little mechanical during the fast parts, but it's not too bad. Drum programming, on the whole, is very well done. Original without the feeling of looping! There are some hints of the Allman Brothers harmonizing guitar leads in there. The acoustic breakdown is a great touch. The playing is spot on. A fantastic improvement! Cant wait to hear the others!
  18. Awesome intro synth/texture. Very warm, yet detached at the same time! Classic Darangen rock. Better kick drum definition in this piece; major change from your first piece. I agree with OA, those wrong notes throw me for a loop when I hear them. Fortunately, I don't feel that way for too long and the song draws me back in. The snare drum fill feels a little synthetic and rigid, but it's not used too much. The breakdown with the piano and sweeping guitar is great. The bass line finds the pocket and just rocks it. You do love your fade outs . Good stuff mate.
  19. Ah, classic OCR tune-age here. I've heard this one throughout my time on OCR and I never put together that it was Darangen. Excellent classic rock feel! The solo was a little loose, but a minor qualm at best. Having never really played DKC2, this makes me want to try it out on an emulator! The only thing I could've ask for would be a better defined kick, but again, not a deal breaker at all! Excellent work for your first submission!
  20. NEW REMIXER Darangen Final Thoughts: There is no shortage of rock when it comes to Darangen! However, I did hear quite an evolution concerning the style of rock. It seemed to begin in more of a classic rock area but it moved over more into the metal side of things. However, the change didn't seem to be jarring (even if it was, that's not a bad thing). The production quality of the tracks certainly improved over time with the most recent posted mix being the most polished! It's easy to hear influences from CCR and Allman Brothers all the way to more metal sounds from Metallica and even some pop rock like Matchbox 20. A wide variety of rock, but rock non the less . It would be great to hear Darangen collab with someone who specializes in a completely different genre (orchestral, ambient, trance/techno, etc) as I'm sure the results would be fabulous! Good work from a man named Darangen!
  21. Well, day one of Brutal Legend is done. I'm at 33% complete. Spent a lot of time doing the secondary quests, so I'm fairly pimped out from all the metal god points! This game is tight. The one negative note: the druid plow can be ridiculously hard to control sometimes. Granted, I just came from Halo and the controls for the warthog are completely different, but I still find the deuce really difficult to steer even after playing it for 5 hours or so. That's a small complaint, though. The game rocks!!
  22. My copy is in hand and ready to be rocked!!
  23. I hear that. 5pm cannot get here soon enough!
  24. Hehe, try NINE years, not seven! Yeah, the sounds may be a little dated, but for the time that Franz did this, I'm very impressed. Hell I was in 10th grade and had never touched a DAW when he did this and I've been out of college and in the working world for almost 2 years, so mad props. Of his entire catalog on OCR, this feels like it's the most polished piece! The piece does stay fairly repetitive, but since it's short (less than 3 mins) it doesn't become overwhelming! Franz, if you're out there, come back and submit a new piece so we can hear how you've grown!!!
  25. Hah! Franz pulls out the hip-hop madness again. The style is very similar to your Mario Underworld track. As with that one, I feel that this track would be perfect as the back track for a rapper or singer! Seriously, if you ever find yourself with an abundance of time, I would love to hear it with an MC! Cool sound; very dirty south in a slightly retro way.
