Just curious how the voting process will work? Will you be using another site entirely or will you use OCR and just use a polling thread? Also, how long do you tentatively plan to keep the judging period open? I'm intrigued to see how this works .

FF7 - Still More Sexy Fighting Updated: 28-12-06

I think the guitar was closer to a human guitar in your second post. The pitch bending that you use in the beginning to humanize it sounds a bit awkward to me. Guitarist will bend the strings to get a particular sound, but not quite that much. Whenever you record a guitarist, you always tell them to attack the bends hard and aggressive so you get a clear defined sound so not to sound like they're wimpin' out. To give you a good example of the un-natural sound I'm refering to, there is a pitch bend at :21 that strkes a nasty tone with me. I would suggest that you attmept going back to a more whole tone note change instead of the attempted slide/slur. The other sections sound better. I can here some subtle (i.e. nice) vibratto on some of the longer notes. That helps. I'm quite impressed with the slap bass. Kudos there -

I don't think this is a bad thing. It's a very interesting style choice. I'm not sure if I'm a huge fan of the organ in the background on the left side. I've always been a huge fan of the fussion of rock and orchestration, so maybe instead of the organ throw in the strings that you have. That's totally a preference suggestion, so please take it with a grain of salt if you don't agree -

I don't think his intension is for it to go to the cue list to be judged, but rather for the FF7 remix project . It's a very interesting concept. I hear drums and percussion that sound like something out of a John Powell or a Steve Jablonski composition. Like it's been said, I'm not a huge fan of the electric guitar. The bass is also a little awkward for me. I loved your WIP of Mortal Kombat and I would love to see and hear you take this mix in more of that direction, even though it may be taking you back to your "oriental/taiko drum phase." I think that phase is, by far, my favorite of yours, having listened to most, if not all, of your music on your site. Either way, good start . -
I need a recommendation, noobs. (military science fiction)

I know it may sound pretty cheesy, but I actually really enjoyed the Halo Trilogy. I thought they were pretty decently written. However, I cannot, in any way, call myself an expert . -
Yes, I know it's a matter pf personal taste, but one is said to be typically stronger than the other. Personally, I prefer a half dimished V chord myself, but for the purpose of the exam that we took, I'm curious. I'm still pretty sure that the V7 is the stronger of the two, but I could be wrong.
-
Ok, so I'm talking to a friend of mine, and somehow we get onto the topic of chord progression in a song. He says that the srongest final cadence is said to be a normal V chord to a I chord (sorry I can't use roman numerals here). However, I'm pretty sure the "strongest" ending cadence is a V7 (a.k.a. a dominant 7) to the I chord. Back me up here or prove me wrong.

I searched for the M-Audio and it is priced at 599? Is that right? No. Sweetwater sells the M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 for $400. You can also find a refurbished one on Musicians Friend for $330. However, you would need to wait until the end of the month for when they get them in. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MAudio-Keystation-Pro-88-MIDI-Controller?sku=709203V

A piece of scripture if I may: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and the SM57. For he looked at what he had done and he said it was good" All kidding aside, the SM57 is a wonderful instument mic, whether it be horns, amps, etc.

Besaid Island FFX Vocal Mix - Which reverb? Pg 3

Was it a direct post? If not, where's the judges decision? -
Been working on that. It's a very tricky piece of music to remix. There really is no solid reoccuring motif. There are a lot of riffs in the song, but all of the more dominant ones are all in different keys. The key changes on whim. It's in Dm, then Gm, then Am, so on and so forth, not to mention that I have converted the time signature, so now I have a rhythm and sequencing issue as well. It's been a tough bastard to work through but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud with how much I've been able to create just from that one riff . I went to the FF7 remix page to get some ideas from the other remixers who have done this song. My luck being what it is (i.e. shitty), there is only one mix and it follows the original very closely which really didn't give me any great transition ideas. Fortunately, sephfire has signed on and this will be a full blown collab with him. If I know seph like I think I do, he'll def have some good ideas. Any ideas from you guys are MORE than welcomed. Thanks for all the feedback

Actually mate, the progression you're refering to comes directly from the source tune. Since I changed the time signature, it has a different rhythm and attack to it, but it is the same notation. Listen to the original at 2:16 and at 3:06. I promise that you'll here it. The reason that I'm sure of it is because it's one of the few melody lines/distinct theme in the song, so I had to use it .

QFE I would suggest looking into the ATM450. The recording engineer who I intern for suggested them to me, and he was right to do so. They sound great and they're reasonbly priced for this type of a mic. Just make sure you have a mixer or preamp that can supply phantom power.

Okay, I've been trying to hold off on this for as long as I could, but I think it's reached the point that I need some critical feedback. At this point, I am looking for ONLY ONE THING so please read this before posting! I believe that I'm begining to understand why this particular song is often times not remixed. The bombing mission has little to no consistant melody line. It has a few reoccuring themes throughout, but nothing super solid. Now take into account that I have changed the time signature of the mix from a 6/8 (or a "swing" 4/4) to a straight 4/4. For you music savvy people out there, you might begin to see my delima. I'm concerned that the bombing run part of the mix is not really all that recognizable and this is where I need your help. I've posted the original song and my mix, and I would ask you guys to listen to both and tell me if you hear the original in the remix. If you can, please be as specific as possible in terms of what you hear (i.e. comparing the two songs using the time, if that makes sense). You can ignore the "Opening" part of the mix because I know that it does sound like the original. Like I said, this is the only thing I really need feedback on at this point. I'm not looking for sound critiques or mixing and mastering suggestions simply because I'm not there yet. I know it's a very specific problem that I need your help with, but it is the most prevelant at the moment. Thanks guys

Already checked. It's not under that name, hence why I asked here.
-
What's the name of the lifestream track? I.e. what's the name of it on VGmusic?
-
nevermind, answered my own question
-
Just to clarify, the track "Opening/Bombing Run" means that you want the opening song in the game (i.e. the music that you hear when you see the first CS with the stars and Aeris' face) and then to go into the bombing run? I know that there are a couple bombing runs, and which one would need to be done (if this all makes sense).

Speaking of which, is there a deadline coming up? I have the sneaking feeling that I'm forgetting one...... *looks over his shoulder for anything sneaking*

Am I missing something?

Perharps I am reading this sentence wrong: "Since the output signals of most microphones are at levels far too low to drive the line level input stage of most recording systems, engineers were required to find a soultion: the Preamplifier. Weak signals in recordings was a continuing problem for some time. A mic preamplifier must be used to boost it's signal to acceptable levels (often by 30-60 dB)...." so on and so on.
