My main tools now are Live 6 and Reason. Main plugs I've bought are Cakewalk Rapture and Dimension Pro plus T-Racks VST for mastering, and EWQLSO Silver. And LOTS of free plugs!

Robert Miles - Fable {DJ SymBiotiX Phantasmagoric Mix}
sgx replied to SenPi's topic in Post Your Original Music!
Cool track. I don't really like the like 100% wet reverb piano or whatever at the beginning. Pizzicato strings are VERY mechanical. Alter the velocities subtley and possibly alter the timing slightly so that they aren't exactly on the beat all the time. Humanization. I think they could use some more 'verb too. Pretty cool though. I did kinda feel that the whole thing felt like a bit of an intro into something more intense but it was nice. -
SGX - A Meal For a Whale - Electroplankton DONE
sgx replied to sgx's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Well, I am taking musical elements from the game and arranging them, so I really can't say its not an arrangement of anything. Is the game in-eligible to be remixed because a lot of the music is different each time it is played? I understand it is controversial, but I'm a bit surprised most who have commented feel it is that black and white. Have you guys ever played Electroplankton? I was making the track before I thought to submit to OCR, so it won't be a big deal if I can't get it up. This track has more Electroplankton in it than sephfire and my Intense color has Mario Paint edit: btw, i updated the file with a new version. -
SGX - A Meal For a Whale - Electroplankton DONE
sgx replied to sgx's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
There aren't any songs in Electroplankton. There are a few beats which I sampled from to make mine, but that's about it for pre-existing material. The rest is just different sounds and notes that you can vaguely control. It is very hard or impossible in most of the little sound-making scenarios to actually make a specific melody you want - control is very vague and loose. The computer is sort of equally responsible for what actually is produced in the end. In that way, since EP is not like one of those MTV Music Generator games that is totally relying on the user to create the music and sounds, I feel that my EP song, while not an arrangement of any pre-existing track, is a bit more valid as a submission to OCR than people might think. EP is about music, but it is more about timbre, texture, and abstract ambience music than it is about melody. I think ambient music (and I mean real ambient, like stuff without melodies, chords, and all that) is just as valid as 'regular' music, so I think a submission to ocr being snubbed because there wasn't a lot of 'notes' in the original to begin with would be a bit of a snub to the whole ambient genre. Besides, I think my song will be cool and creative. I'm doing a lot of cool manipulations of my recordings from EP that I feel actually go with the overall mood and feeling of the game. I think that people who are into music and games (most of those who come to this site) and are into music games like EP will find my song worth the download from OC. That's my case for it anyway -
SGX - A Meal For a Whale - Electroplankton DONE
sgx replied to sgx's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Glad you like it. Thing is...there is no original. Electroplankton does not have any music in it really..it just lets you make some sounds and stuff. All the piano stuff is original music. I'm most likely going to submit, but I don't know if it will be accepted because it isn't really a remix of anything. -
EDIT: All done: http://www.sgxmusic.com/music/SGX%20-%20A%20Meal%20For%20a%20Whale.mp3 The full track is 7.5 min long and I feel itflows much better than this truncated one, but I'm saving that stuff for my album http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=102671&songID=4731992 Sorry, just a link to a streaming file right now. Don't like to have WIP mp3's floatin around. I decided to challenge myself to make a song with only two primary sound sources: A piano patch and Electroplankton for Nintendo DS. So every sound in here is either directly from or some sort of effected derivative of the piano or electroplankton, including the drum samples which were sampled from the patterns in the game then totally rearranged. Some of the sounds I played a loop of the song into the DS mic and had EP fuck with it and send it back to my computer for manipulation. I think I need to get more plankton flavor in this. I'll probably do another play/recording session to get a few more sounds from the game in here. Structure and ending is really rough and un-final. Just wanted to show this concept I'm working on.

Oh, I've got a FLAC option for the digital download purchase now. I probably won't keep that available forever though since it is like 800 mb.

I have some equipment... now what?
sgx replied to scarred1928's topic in Music Composition & Production
yeah but it is replaced then. This previewing doesn't change anything. No dragging either. Just go down the list. Plus, you can do the same thing with whole kits with huge setups of routing and effects with the combinator (reason) and racks (live). -

I do, when I'm using Reason for drums (been using Live and it's Impulse a lot recently). In Reason, usually I'll just sketch something out real quick on the redrum (like extremely basic) then send the pattern to track and work from there in the sequencer. But Reason (and now Live6 has this feature) own everything else because you can hot-swap samples. So you can let your pattern loop and just go through the browser clicking on samples which will be autoloaded into a pad temporarily. It lets you hear what a sample will sound like in the pattern with one click. I don't know of any other drum samplers that do that. I spend more time on sound design/sample choice than the actual sequencing usually so this is more important to me than quick pattern editing that something else might offer (I like Live's pattern editing a lot though). -

I recommend Cakewalk Project5. Does midi programming very well (including drum programming) does audio recording pretty well, does soft synths well, comes with some very nice synths out of the box, is very cheap ($199), and a free large update (version 2.5) is coming in a couple months. I honestly think P5 is the ultimate learning software that one would probably stick with for a long time due to its ease of use, relatively well rounded package of included stuff, and price. I've used Sonar, Reason, Ableton Live, ACID, all a lot, and FL studio a little (poo poo 'playlist' sequencing not for me). About ACID - depends what ACID 6 you are using. There is a big difference between ACID music studio 6 and ACID Pro 6. If you have Pro 6, you're probably pretty set, as it does midi in, out, audio recording, vsti, and all that. The version of kompakt it comes with is pretty nice too with a bunch of sounds. -
DONE AND DONE. Nice to see they added Canadian shipping now. Or...did you change stores? There is no they for zencart. Zencart is just server software that I install on my webspace and maintain to take orders. It's all me here..no one else is handling orders. Cdbaby.com on the other hand is 'they', but I'm not using them at all for Outmoded because it is limited run. I did decide to ship to other countries from my zencart orders now though, partly because I'm not using CDbaby for Outmoded and they ship anywhere, and also it was just confusing configuration issues in the zencart software that I hadn't had time to figure out up until recently. I did reinstall zencart about a month ago though since the old installation broke somehow, so if you are a repeat customer and you have to make a new login again, that's why (sorry!).

Well, you can regard all of the physical CD's special/limited editions because I'm probably not making more than 40 and there's no way I'm going more than 50, so it will be quite limited. That's why there's quite a price difference between the physical and digital versions: I didn't really wanna gouge people on previously released stuff of mine, but the physical package is pretty nice and I put effort into personalizing it with commentary and all those extras, so the physical item could be somewhat of a collector's item. Oh, and here are two free tracks from the album: http://www.sgxmusic.com/music/SGX%20-%20Realize.mp3 http://www.sgxmusic.com/music/SGX%20-%20Different.mp3

Your arguments are pretty dumb. I'm arguing like Evilhead. This is where he would reply "Oh, since I am attacking your beloved company, you resort to personal insults. You are really grasping at straws here. You Sony fanboys are all the same. Say something other than positive remarks abouta Sony idea and you all get defensive and use insults to get your point across. I'm having so much fun with all of you it's incredible." I don't really like Sony as a game company myself. I think it would be better for the games industry if MS and Nintendo led, and better for the movie industry if HD DVD became the standard. This doesn't stop me from buying stuff they make if I want it and I feel it is worth the money to me. I'm not going to let some sort of bias or righteous ideas stop me from playing games I want. I bought a DS before I bought a PSP, so don't tell me I am a Sony fanboy. Your arguments ARE pretty dumb. I don't see how Sony selling PS1 games is something to knock, at least without knocking Nintendo's virtual console too. Sony's deal actually looks superior to me - comparable prices AND you can play it on the go on the PSP. The "you can buy the games in a store" argument is stupid because, no, most of the time you can't find the games in the store. It would take a lot of searching and luck. The same is true for N64 games. Also, you can't play PS1 DISCS in your PSP. Evilhead is doing a good job of explaining most everything else, so talking more on the subject would be repetitious. And dude, I got Mario 64 DS. That game was so bad

Apparently Sony is working on a way to let you get ps1 games to psp without a PS3. I'm up for that...because I won't be getting a ps3 for a long while. Looking forward to it.

Audio quality on this mashup sounds a bit fucked up. Lots of treble and sounds like clipping. Your CD sounds a lot better than this.
-
I manufactured the CD's yay. Good luck with sales dood. I liked listening as I printed.
-
It was released on some limited edition disc or something, right? Are those easy to find?

I think I might buy my friend's GC for $30 and then get this game. I watched some videos of Link riding the horse and it looked a lot like Shadow of the Colossus. I could go for some more o' that. I haven't played a Zelda game since the first one when I was 4 years old or so.

SX3 took like 5 months or so to crack and the funny thing was that the cracked version ran faster and was more stable than the legit dongle version. Ugh.
