I don't think they have anything for free, but the new Cakealk Music Creator 3 is pretty damn awesome for $30.

help getting started with acid 3
sgx replied to dirtywhitellama's topic in Music Composition & Production
Acid 3 is extremely simple. You drag loops to the track then paint them where you want them to play. Put an effect on if you want. That's about it. Read the manual if you have 0 clue where to begin, but its not really an application that warrants a tutorial. -
ACID's been hella buggy for the past few revisions. A bunch of people have been having vst problems with it. When I tested the demo, I had 0 problems though. Sony tends to release their software when it should still be in beta getting the kinks out. It took a couple patches until Pro 5 was generally considered un-buggy. I'd say the first patch for 6 will be out in a month or so. For your problems, I'd suggest posting in the sony media software or kvr forums. I think you, me, and DJ Zenith are the only ACID users around, and I don't think Zenith has played with 6 yet. I don't know the solution to your problems. But yeah, Pro 6 is extremely hot. Love the workflow and the midi is actually really nice now. There are still some weird oversights like no freeze function, and no aux sending from busses (seriously...what were they thinking). Did you get the boxed version? How is the Kompakt sampler and what are the samples it came with like? Mine is in the mail.

Learning Cubase for a digital audio class. Any tips?
sgx replied to Faustt's topic in Music Composition & Production
I think by "odd" you mean "because they're more attractive in features-per-buck". I happen to think P5 is as good of a value or better than Reason and FL for the price (especially for beginners), but no one else here is using it. Meh. It makes sense though, its not a big name, and is much newer to the game. Orion never gets ANY mention in here either. I should expand upon "odd." It isn't really odd because it makes sense. FL and Reason have been around for a while and have been good software for both beginners (which there are a lot of around these parts) and for experts. -

It's not really sarcasm when its true. There are like 4-5 Cubase users on the forum. You'll find more help in already Cubase-centric forums. It is odd that so many use Reason and FL, but whatareyagonnado? They are good apps. There should totally be a P5 sticky so I can discuss the merits of the groove matrix with myself. -
Seems like they would have told you more about what they had in mind. Do they have the video for this spot made yet? It would probably be very helpful to see that.

SWEET new sample site I found.

These are the best ones: http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/packsViewSingle.php?id=23 -
sgx, you are jack'd. Yeah I was. Hot damn. In order to add something useful to the thread, I shall point out a $50 sequencer that people seem to like a lot: Energy XT. http://www.xt-hq.com/ It doesn't come with any instruments or effects, but if you go through kvraudio.com, you could get a bunch of pretty decent free vst's for it. It's probably more full featured than FL express or whatever that is. Edit: oh, and Cakewalk Music Creator 3 is an amazing sequencer for $30.

As far as I know, getting the correct tags in isn't that important. DJP will be double checking everything himself, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just send it in.

You could cancel your WoW subscription for 4 months or something and then save enough money for FL!!!!

112kbps-320kbps MP3 vs. FLAC VGRemixes?
sgx replied to Audity's topic in Music Composition & Production
I'll never want to get stuff in FLAC or OGG format really, because of one reason - they don't work on my mp3 player and I don't want to have to convert. -
Yeah, like every vsti host can do that.
-
I just upgraded to Acid Pro 6 hurray.
-
Nice. GET PUMPED. Too bad track isn't contact.
-
The Acid Pro 6 demo is fully functional. You can save and export and all that for a month. Pretty effin sweet sequencer now too, if you ask me (even for midi and vsti omg). Might wanna check that out. Could make your life easier (for a month).

REASON - Please Direct Reason questions here
sgx replied to Devvyn's topic in Music Composition & Production
Hmmm. yea that's a toughie. I don't think you can "clear" a reverb. I'm not great at programming samplers, but you could build a sample patch in the samper that does this I think. Export one note with the reverb on it, then bring that wav back in in the sampler. Set up the loop and release points and whatnot, and that might do the trick. -
Don't think that's possible without some sort of sampler plugin, yo. Can home studio run dxi's? See if there's a dxi on the computer called Cyclone. It's a little loop player/sampler thing that could probably do this, and I know its been bundled with a lot of Cakewalk sequencers for a few years.

Specific questions about sequencing software
sgx replied to Kanthos's topic in Music Composition & Production
I wouldn't begin with Cubase. It's complicated and probably has a lot more features than you will need for a long time. I don't think they provide demos of them either. FL is good, but I'd also consider Reason and Cakewalk Project5 because they both come with a bunch of pretty nice orchestral samples. -
I think Acid Xpress is free and it might have the beatmapping feature that the other acid versions have. Might want to check that out.

Need new multi-track recording software
sgx replied to Raydius's topic in Music Composition & Production
Sonar is pretty sweet and there are a lot of cheaper cut down versions of it that do a lot for a fraction of the cost. You might get an upgrade deal also, since you own a cake product already.
