  1. Truly we have discovered the Haiku Master. Get done, B bracket Mixing week is at an end I hope you made things
  2. I work in a library. Silence is in my blood. Gario - What, didn't get the memo about this being a La-Mulana round? Shameful. Despite this egregious mistake, it's a very solid, very Gario track (if I said that about the last one, I'm saying it more about this one). 1:00-1:10 is my favorite bit of arrangement. supercoolmike - I think you did a better job hitting the tone you were going for this time compared to your first entry. The production and writing are working together more. It takes some careful listening to recognize the source; there's a lot of it there, but it's altered a bit more than I like in a remix. I'd hoped we would see more entrants. Oh well. Podium placings for all! Looks like rwickline11 made an account, signed up for the competition, and hasn't so much as logged in since.
  3. Uploading my entry now! Thoughts on the last round: MushroomSword - Pretty nice. Ghetto Lee Lewis - Strong production and arrangement here. The vocal pitch is a bit off the mark, though, which is really distracting for me. Jonathan! - Some great ideas mixed with weaker execution. 2:02 is kind of an awkward transition into a pretty well-written section at 2:07. Something could be done to help the drums fit in better--not sure if it's the volume, samples, timing, or some combination.
  4. 1. MushroomSword 2. Ghetto Lee Lewis 3. Jonathan!
  5. Tough vote! As for reviews, I guess it's true that they could end up skewing the results, but I find that the process of writing them really helps me think about my decision. Cyril the Wolf - I'm really liking the creative chord changes sprinkled throughout. Production is also pretty good, but it's the arrangement that sets this one apart for me. Garpocalypse - Nice work pumping energy into the more subdued source. Pretty well-rounded in terms of arrangement and production. gercr - Kudos for taking on La-Mulana. The first half of the arrangement is fantastic. I'd have liked to see the two sources working together rather than simply being placed side by side, but that's not really an explicit part of this competition. The rhythm does feel a mite sloppy between the guitars and drums in the second half. Nutritious - Probably the strongest production values of the group, and the arrangement holds its own as well. In thinking about what's most important to me in a ReMix, I decided Cyril's arrangement was more interesting, but it was a close one. theshaggyfreak - Cool idea to go for a totally different musical style. This is another case where the changes in the arrangement are a little too extreme for my liking, but I do like the sound design.
  6. 1. Cyril the Wolf 2. Nutritious 3. Garpocalypse
  7. Five solid entries and two new games represented! Nice job, Bravo crew! I'll make sure to post my thoughts when I get a chance to listen in detail.
  8. I had orange crush soda...let's say that counts.

  9. The standard procedure for these competitions tends to be "as soon as the .zip for your round is public, go for it." If shadow's against it, I've already broken the rules.
  10. GameCube triggers can be half-clicked. In Mario Sunshine, you could run around spraying water with a light touch or stand still and aim by pressing the trigger all the way down. The controls would have to be changed on the Wii U...as would the in-game instructions...which are delivered through voice acting.
  11. Oh. I checked and you can already do that with Wii discs. I haven't done it before. Here, I did some googling and came up with this: "Some of the Wii games that were compatible with the Wii Classic Controller can be played using only the Wii U GamePad, too." So, still no Galaxy 2 on gamepad.
  12. I've made multiple failed attempts at virt arrangements. It's the harmonies that get me. I like when people post their thoughts in the Mega Man competitions, so here are mine: Cosmic Sounds: Love the minimalist intro and the way it sets the mood. It took me repeated listens to locate the source usage throughout the track, though (and I'm pretty familiar with Shovel Knight). I can hear that it's there, but it's subtle to the point that it comes across as more of an original track. Gario: This one starts leaning the other way (toward straight cover territory), but there are definitely Gario touches sprinkled in. Despite falling short of what I know you're capable of with more time on your hands, it's still a very enjoyable track. Supercoolmike: Harmonic soundscape is a little sparse--the original track has fuller chords in its favor. I could see it as being representative of more of a bleak scene rather than an epic final battle, though it does leave me wanting a little more depth. Ultimately, my decision between Cosmic and Super came down to source usage. Separated from the context of ReMixing, I might've picked Cosmic over Super, but I feel source recognizability is too important of a factor for this kind of competition. I understand opposite votes, though. Overall, I'm glad to see four different games get represented! I hope this trend continues!
  13. I believe by "gamepad support" they mean off-tv play, pointing your Wii remote at the gamepad screen.
  14. Hylian Lemon votes for: 1. Gario 2. Supercoolmike 3. Cosmic Sounds
  15. Maybe that could be part of the submission process to make it easier on shadow24? Link your own sources? All these bandcamp pages make it really simple. Here, I believe these are the sources used in this round: http://virt.bandcamp.com/track/an-underlying-problem-the-lost-city http://virt.bandcamp.com/track/the-final-challenge http://jeffball.bandcamp.com/track/rebirth http://jeffball.bandcamp.com/track/haters-gonna-hate http://galaxytrail.bandcamp.com/track/final-boss-1
  16. Uploading now! Competitions are a great way to get me to actually do things.
  17. We can definitely get back into it now that the holiday season is over. It's still set up the same way. I just finished my somewhat semi-annual Mario Kart marathon, during which I picked new favorite characters based on first appearances, last appearances, general interestingness, and reasonable stats. Super: Toad 64: Wario Super Circuit: Peach Double Dash: Toadette/Bowser Jr. DS: Waluigi Wii: Birdo 7: Wiggler 8: Roy 5ever Pink/purple in 6 out of 8 games. This pleases me.
  18. Bracket A (aka Bracket Purple) is remixing this week! Bring it on!
  19. I always take forever to edit this one. Life of a Bowling Pin (updated 1-1-15) Previous version Brought down the lead volumes a bit in all the places y'all mentioned (I think), pulled down the ultrahigh frequencies on one lead. Let me know what's what.
  20. Whoa! I knew vaguely about the deluxe digital promotion, but I didn't know there was a separate site to log into. I got $25 in credit over the last year without even knowing it.
  21. New/updated sigs: gercr Jonathan! MushroomSword I switched gercr's and Jonathan's colors now that they've changed brackets. The competition originally involved everyone voting for a single track to remix from Mercenary Kings, so that's where the "choose a song" part of the schedule came from, I think. Might be easiest to just list the recently-released complete soundtrack. Includes all of the above on one page.
  22. I made sigs for everyone. Use 'em if you want. If you'd rather have a game-specific sig, ask shadow24! Also, if one more person joins bracket C before they start, we can have 5 people in each bracket...pleeeeaaaaase Brandon Strader Cosmic Sounds Cyril the Wolf Gario Garpocalypse gercr Ghetto Lee Lewis Jason Covenant Jonathan! MushroomSword Nutritious rwickline11 Supercoolmike theshaggyfreak (colors are based on which bracket you're in)
  23. Two Carol of the Bells arrangements for the price of zero! Nice deal.
