Poetry/Singing/Music Mega Competion idea
Imagist replied to Ghetto Lee Lewis's topic in Competitions
I'd just like to go on the record as saying that good poetry =/= good lyrics, the number one reason being that poetry is very open in nature while good lyrics are typically written with some idea of the rhythm and sound of them already in mind, which doesn't necessarily limit the lyrics so much as affect the way they are written. Otherwise, I would be very much interested in a competition like this, as I have been doing some (original, not remix) songwriting of my own lately. -
Glaives are tough. There's a very fine difference between between charging one hit and pulling off successive hits that's tough to nail. Honestly, I prefer the good old Reflectors to anything else. The timing never changes and one full combo is usually effective in nailing any enemy, at least to the point where you can use brush techniques to do major damage. The life beads simply don't do that for me. I think the game is good. It's certainly not perfect, even in terms of art direction and atmosphere, but it's good. Issun sure is an awful character, though--so annoying. Side note: what's this about no prologue scene or credits? I haven't completed the game to question the lack of credits, but I'm absolutely certain I saw some form of prologue when I started the game.

Thanks for the wishes and advice and assistance, guys. It's actually been a fairly easy experience for me. I mean, the pain hasn't been bad at any point so far (this being my third day into it, and first day off the pills), and it's not like I haven't been able to eat anything (just ice cream the first day, but I managed macaroni, tomato soup and grilled cheese yesterday and an omelet this morning), so last night I was mostly exhausted from the long day. Anyway, thanks again for compiling the entries, Barnsalot, although everyone should note that Irregular's entry has been disqualified (see the original posting for an explanation). And Kholdstare, I know it's been a while since you last joined us so if you (or anyone else) have any questions about the new voting system, just shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to clarify. -

What a nice turnout so far! Thanks to all of you for your participation. To everyone else: there's about an hour and a half to submit, folks. If it can be done, do it. As for my poem, I'm terribly dissatisfied with it, but I am still on pain meds from my wisdom teeth extraction yesterday so there's not much chance that I'll a) stay awake much longer and have the will of mind to concentrate on improving it any more. Here we go: Spelunking Do not pretend you do not know what it means to chase the sunrise, to floor the pedal one morning and race to meet it—somewhere, then turn and watch as it falls, waiting the night to flee before it. Let me tell you one such tale: Once man went and found a hole from which blew Earth’s chill breath. He dig-dug-dug to fall into the Lake of Dreams where everything he ever saw collected, reflected. And there he met the sullen specter, gleaming white as the moon or Pluto. It stalked him throughout and out, haunting as a watchful pillar from God, appearing there, afar, here, face-to-face, now and then, everywhere. You may think it pleasant to frolic with your demons, toy with them as they toy with you, until you are so caged. You see, not all who chase the sunrise will again flee before it. -

Please leave your ignorant, inflammatory opinions behind. This is not a thread for trolling. -

Yeah, Mechasonic, we used to do trimonthly competitions with all three categories, but at current we are down to bimonthly competitions with rotating categories. I guess the confusion is somewhat my fault for not updating the current status of the competition all this time. Well, there's just about a week left for submission, folks. I'm hoping there are a lot more entries in the works to blow last month's turnout out of the water. I've been on vacation for the last week, but I now have plenty of ideas and should be able to work one of them up before getting my wisdom teeth out next Thursday. Good luck to all those still working hard (or even yet to start)! -

I... think I'm going to have to discount that one. While I just now realized that the rules don't specifically outlaw fan poetry, I think the original intent for outlawing fanfiction extends to the poetry competition. It's sort of like OCR's reasoning behind rejecting MIDI rips; the whole idea of creativity inherent in the system is to create something, not to copy or pay tribute to it. So sorry, and I'll make the rules a bit more explicit on this point. -
The ends of the circle don't have to meet exactly, in fact it doesn't even have to be very circle-like at all, but it must be some sort of completely enclosed oval (if it's open it won't work) and for most things it has to completely encircle the thing you're trying to affect. Make sure your circles are big enough or it won't work. (HALF-JACKED)

Z? What?... (I really had no idea that was a feature. And I thought I was paying pretty good attention to the tutorials.) Anyway, Injin, the reason to buy the Wii version is I don't have a PS2. And I'm sure this is a valid reason for many others as well. Besides, as someone else mentioned, using widescreen and progressive scan mode on Wii makes the game look gorgeous. And all in all, I find the Wiimote controls more annoying than fun--I just don't have a steady enough hand to draw straight lines using a pointer without help.
-
So I've been playing Okami on Wii. It's a great game and all, but my biggest problem is not the "waggle" combat (which I actually prefer to Twilight Princess's rapid-fire style; the directional dodging with the Nunchuk could work better, but then again TP could never quite tell what should have been a shield bash from what should have been a spin strike). I have issues with the drawing, as it seems a little too strict for the pointer controls (especially on the issue of a "straight" line; it can sometimes take 2 or 3 attempts to recognize a power slash on something, although circular techniques are a little easier). Was it ever so tough to draw properly on the PS2, or is that a problem unique to the Wiimote adaptation?

Well, for some of us writing can be more of a craft or, hell, a job than a hobby. In such cases that line is a very important thing to consider. But who really knows where it is? I'm still convinced critics draw it between what isn't published (obviously too plebeian or too pretentious to be worth anything) and what is published (clearly the superior body of work, else who would have published it) just for simplicity's sake. Here, I don't think there's much to worry about. We may be critics, but we're not necessarilythekind of critic who would be preoccupied with that distinction. -

Yes, they are much appreciated as always, Doulifee! And ubernym, you'll just have to try your best to earn yourself a partner to that thing this go around, won't you? -
I prefer Facebook for a general networking tool, but I will agree that Myspace is far better for music networking. I'd friend you, but I don't have an account--I just browse, finding new music when I'm bored by going to my favorite bands' pages and visiting their friends.

This is the brand I was talking about, with the crazy feature set. I think it's the 605 that's like 100+ GB, surfs the web, walks your dog and whips your grandpa at chess?

Just bought a DS for my girlfriend.. recommendations please!
Imagist replied to Urban Xperience's topic in General Discussion
I guess I could buy that approach, but still, who really thinks "Barbie" whenever they see "girl" and "game" together (or that others will think as such)? Unless "girl" is preceded by "eight year-old" and followed by "who has a closet full of carefully groomed dolls." Anyway, Trauma Center is definitely a great choice. And of course there's no such thing as recommending the Ace Attorney games too strongly. -

I have to question how old this guy and his girlfriend are when he thinks anyone would seriously wish a Barbie-related game upon another human being. -
Holy crap, when did they start producing these suckers? I'd agree that the Zen is basically the best player out there right now, aside from those other swanky third-parties with ridiculous storage sizes and feature sets (Wi-Fi, etc.), but those aren't quite as pocket-friendly and such. They're more on the side of multimedia players than portable music players. That said, however, the Zen is more expensive for the space you get because it's all flash memory, so if you're wanting the bigger storage space it's probably not worth the money to drop for the 32GB Zen and a sizeable SD card when you could just get an iPod or Zune, neither of which are strictly bad players in their own rights.
-
I'd say the Zune has a better feature set, while the iPod has a better interface. It also depends on whether you're already heavily invested in iTunes. If you've bought anything from Apple, you'll want an iPod to play it. Also, I don't think the accessory support argument works any more. Zune has quite an impressive amount of accessory support (and really has since it came out; that's one thing Microsoft pushed pretty heavily).

Nah, he's probably given up and gone back to stalking whoever he was before he realized we give him all the attention he needs right here. Hey wait...

All right, everyone. The poetry competition begins in about an hour and a half. Let's get the good ideas flowing. Hopefully we can manage at least as much of a turnout as last time! -
I just kind of like how underneath his user name says his real name followed by a comma followed by "BANNED." It's like a professional appellation.

Hadoken is more practical for everyday use. Shoryuken is more practical for serious fighting. Good summation of thread? Y/N
