  1. You're ignoring part of the question. Why should I pay $30 to own and play something I already have on another system if it's essentially the same experience?
  2. All I can say is it's not Make Believe, which automatically increases its chances of not sucking. But I'm generally disinterested in Weezer because I think the best albums in their discography were all written and released by Sloan. Srsly.
  3. The "countdown" doesn't seem to be counting down to anything. It just displays the time from your system clock. That said, any rerelease of Chrono Trigger that is not a remake will not be worth it to me. All the FF Advance games that were released with, like, one bonus dungeon turned out to be dissatisfactory in the end because I just thought, "Now why did I buy and play this again to beat a couple extra bosses for one more set of uber-items that is ultimately unnecessary for anything?" FF4 remake on the DS looks great, and I'm kind of hoping this will be along that line.
  4. If there's one thing I'll agree with them on, it's the matter of the light radius in dungeons. Part of the reason Diablo was so much fun in the first places is because you're facing a horde of hellish enemies you can't even see until they're right upon you, scaring you shitless. There's nothing like turning a corner with no idea what's around it, and the images of dungeons so far seem to have forgotten that. Their "demands" (and edits, which are little more than gratuitous hue/saturation adjustments) for the outdoor environments seem ridiculous, though.
  5. Dates are the 11th and 12th. I could theoretically go the 11th but I'm not willing to spend ~$30 for tickets right now.
  6. It was just an example, not to be taken so literally. But I (for example) play "big" RPGs like FFVI Advance and The World Ends With You on my breaks at work, simply because I have nothing better to do besides listen to music, and when I'm home I rarely get around to them because I have lots better to do. So portability is something of a factor, quicksave or not. I do not understand the fascination with small screens, but I honestly don't understand the fascination with excessively large (more than 26" or so) screens either. It just seems to me that once you go beyond that point, you might as well invest in true immersion and set up an HD projector.
  7. Um... making a game like FFT or, really, any time-intensive game portable means allowing you to do the whole "quicksave" thing and shut it off at just about any moment, to be picked up at the exact same point later. That is how "hours on end" goes with "couple minutes at a time." It's not that one would purposefully want to play a game in 15-minute chunks just for the hell of it; it's that one wants to play the game whenever possible, while away from home (and, ostensibly, the console). Say you're a computer programmer; you could play the game turn-by-turn at your desk, in all the little spaces you have while your code is compiling or the test driver is running, a la... Just replace the sword fight on chairs with demolishing the enemy team flawlessly. It's fine if you don't see the appeal, but for some people portability means the difference between playing a game and not.
  8. This site keeps breaking Firefox for me...
  9. Time-heavy in the sense that they are long games that take lots of time to complete. By making them portable, they become easier to digest in many small chunks, which means you can complete the games without having to sit around at home for hours on end even if you only play a couple minutes at a time.
  10. Oh... fuck. I think my brain just melted.
  11. Yeah, there was a time when I considered getting a PSP just for this remake. It kinda died when I realized I wouldn't be interested in many other games besides Crisis Core, though.
  12. You are a horrible, horrible waste of life.
  13. I think the only one that would qualify under Atma's definition is Super Metroid. But I frequently replay Chrono Trigger and FF6 (working on FF6 Advance right now, actually) over periods of about a week, and whenever I'm bored I fire up the old UT2k4 or Freespace 2 and give multiplayer a shot.
  14. This is a very common fallacy around here... not everyone who frequents the forums is (at least, currently) interested in OC ReMixes. And also, not everyone listens to music on the go.
  15. Er, woops. Ran out of time before work, but here I am, still before my own deadline! THE RESULTS ARE IN! Runner-Up: ChirusHighwind 1st Place: Random Hajile Congratulations RH/Leon K. on securing yet another poetry victory. And congratulations to newcomer ChirusHighwind for hanging in there; it takes some pretty slick work to keep neck-and-neck with RH, and you certainly have that in spades. Here's the vote spread: Barnsalot - 6 Bruce Lee - 8 ChirusHighwind - 10 Darklink42 - 3 Imagery - 5 Kholdstare - 3 Manic Cinq - 2 Mechasonic4ever - 3 Random Hajile - 11 Hopefully we'll get you two some nice sig badges shortly. And to everyone else: good work. We had quite a surge in submissions this time around, but not a corresponding surge in voting, so given that everyone was awarded a significant portion of a least one of our few voter's points, there are certainly no losers in this competition. I hope to see you all back again in a couple weeks for July's AMERICAN FREEDOM--err, I mean, freeform competition.
  16. Sorry, guys. I meant to tally everything up this afternoon, but I was so tired that I had to take a nap or there's no way I could be so freaking pumped to see Rilo Kiley tonight. Luckily I gave myself a fourth day on top of the usual three because I figured something like this might happen, so I'll have to put it up before work tomorrow since I can hardly do anything but jam to "Portions for Foxes" right now. Yes, the concert was amazing, and I'm pretty much going to have to marry Jenny Lewis now.
  17. I go see Rilo Kiley on Monday, Islands the week after, Wolf Parade at the end of July and The Faint mid-August. And I've already been to see Islands (back at school) and Wilco in the last couple months.
  18. Read the rest of his post and it'll make sense although I have no idea what he's smoking in saying that, MM7 and 8 were two of the best games in the series as far as I'm concerned.
  19. About two and a half hours left to vote, folks. The turnout has been less than stellar, which is a shame, but I honestly doubt it will improve with an extension of the deadline. So unless I get some kind of outcry in favor of extending the vote, NOW is the time.
  20. Yes. Once this is over, I never want to see a) any other FF game get the DS treatment, or any of these games get released again in some other form. Both would be absolutely ridiculous outcomes, Squeenix.
  21. So, let me get this straight, Neko... you think, from reading these sentences, that he actually believes the US has never seen FFIV, and even imagined its release as part of the Chronicles collection? You honestly think there is no sarcasm, pointed toward the sentiments expressed in the review he linked, here?
  22. This would be me. Not that I'm good with DDD, but I'm so glad I wasn't SO IDIOT like my friends and basically ignore him because "playing as a giant penguin with a hammer is stupid."
  23. Welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, this is not the board you are looking for. You might find accomodation here: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=10 Also, feel free to introduce yourself here: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10835
  24. Just a few days left to vote. Only about half of the entrants have voted, so I'll probably be PMing the rest who haven't (and non-current entrants who haven't) soon to remind them. With such a big turnout, it would be a shame to have a poor show for voting!
  25. I'm a little confused. How could such searches possibly be conducted with useful results? After all, what's the difference between a legal, DRM-free mp3 and a properly-tagged pirated version? I mean, I could see its usefulness for some media, but... it seems like this would be just as impossible to effectively enforce as current piracy laws.
