  1. Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!!! Maybe now that sub-forum won't die a slow, painful death. ... Not to mention maybe getting some more participation in the Writing Competition.
  2. 1, I guess. It's kinda ambiguous. I listen to all the remixes, and then purge the ones I really don't like. I won't purge those that I'm "eh" about and listen to every once in a while; it's only those I would never listen to. Which means most of what's on the site is still around on my hard drive. I've only purged a fraction of the total.
  3. And he goes and defiles the name of Blue Bomber. ... I guess it's time to get off my lazy ass and finally change my AIM name from way back in 2003. No need having this guy associated with me in any way, shape or form. (Really, I need to change a lot of my names, but that one takes priority now. Ugh.)
  4. Well, I probably won't be getting a new computer anytime soon, but if something happens to my family's computer (which is going on 5-6 years old now), I'll be sure to take your offer into consideration. Especially since I'm not there with them to help build one myself.
  5. From my own experience, having a single backup drive is not sufficient. Why? Because it was the backup that died first, and then my main drive soon followed before I could replace the backup. Probably just a freak occurrence, but I lost almost everything I had. So my advice is to get two extra drives for backing up data. The chances of all three dying at about the same time is really small, especially if you only use the backups for backing up data, and it doesn't become absolutely necessary to spend more money constantly replacing the drives like starla suggests. Cheaper in the long run, I think, and more secure.
  6. I don't really care about the Super Bowl, but for all you Giants fans out there: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ki-w4KYpnuw
  7. I second Puppy. I recently used it to help my sister retrieve her files from a drive with a bad Windows installation. It's quite easy to use (I tried DSL, but it just wasn't as intuitive; I couldn't quite figure everything out with it). If you want document processing ability with Puppy (the default, as far as I know, doesn't come with it), you'll need to get the Open Office Puppy version (aka Chubby Puppy). It can be found here.
  8. I approve of the new voting system. And I wouldn't mind at all letting in people who haven't submitted in the past. I'd actually like it. However, we don't have to do so this time around. Perhaps give it some more thought for next time, see if anything better is brought up. But that's not necessary. Decision is ultimately yours, Imagery. By the way, I will have a submission ready before midnight tonight, guaranteed. However, I may not post it until the last minute, as I'm going out until 11 right now (go go Stargate: Atlantis!) and I'm still trying to think of one last thing to put into the poem. I'll either edit this post with it later or make a new post as appropriate, so expect my submission. Yay! EDIT: Finished! Mostly. Everything is done, but I'm not sure about its name and some of the formatting. I've never been good at titles. But for now, I've called it Purity. So here it is, my first poem in over 5 years: Purity Sun rising, a cool night warms, light kisses flowers blooming. She smiles, a beauty to behold, upon the shallow hills. Breeze flowing, a touch of life whispers among the leaves. He grins, a joyful smile, happy as can be. Peaceful day, a scene of life, nature’s beauty among them. She whispers, a loving voice, her tender kiss soothing. Birds singing, a soft, tranquil tune, the melody of living. He sighs, a gentle touch, her hair running through his fingers. Blue skies, a cloud not found, on a beautiful summer day. Eyes shut, a warm embrace, two souls brought together.
  9. That's not the only one. Right after that was HotStuff. And while I'm not sure, I think Jivemaster's Da Boom may have been used (though it could've been the original song; didn't Jive use a lot of the original in his mix, which led to its removal?). Nice find, by the way.
  10. Yeah, I'm not a bumper-sticker fan, but if OCR made one, I'd slap it on my car in a heartbeat! Maybe even one of those magnetic things rather than bumper stickers?
  11. Well, next one is SS, so it'll definitely be better. I can personally guarantee that you'll at least get a submission from me. So there's at least one entry. As for this one, I'm halfway through what I hope will be submittable poetry. I am hoping I can get my work for the weekend done in short order so I can finish it on time.
  12. Firewall: Comodo Firewall Pro FREE Antivirus/spyware: BitDefender FREE VERSION AVAILABLE I use both. Bitdefender works quite well (though I'm having some issues getting my version to auto-scan; probably just an error on my part. Comodo is similar to ZoneAlarm with it's firewall (so it'll be easy for you to get used to), but last I checked, it had many more options available for customization to your needs than ZoneAlarm, and does a very good job. Neither program takes up too much of your computer's resources, which is also a plus.
  13. Aw man... RPI was one of the universities I applied to but ultimately did not go to. This almost -almost- makes me wish I had chosen to go there.
  14. I'm tempted to implement both of those sometime. I would just need to buy the Wiimote, buy the projector, get the necessary software, create the stands and IR stuff... A little bit of work, but probably worth it. And definitely useful for poor college students without tablets and presentations to make.
  15. Effective? Yes. The problem with that approach, however, is that it relies on your opponent making two very big mistakes: not moving his defensive units away from the line (they shouldn't even be there in the first place; keeping them behind the first defenses is better in general), and wasting money on a "wall" of photon cannons (or any other defense). Except in rare circumstances (or very abundant resources), the backbone of a base's defense should lie in units, not static defenses. They are vulnerable to attacks that they cannot defend against (as you pointed out), and are ultimately a big target for your opponent to destroy. It's like putting up a big sign that says "Here's a big pile of my hard-earned resources! Blow it up for me!" Static defenses have their uses, and if you can reasonably get the extra resources, putting extra defenses up doesn't hurt. But usually the money is better spent on units. Hey, it's possible. My parents do (it's been in storage, but it's still around). A computer from that era would probably still be able to play the game, so if you still had it, you'd be all set.
  16. Just so you're aware, the latest patch to the game allows you to play the games without the CDs. So if you still have it installed, you'll be good to go! The trick is doing it without alerting the enemy to your plans. If you focus too much on the detectors, a good enemy will realize that you've got something you want to bring in undetected, and take steps to prevent their detectors' destruction as well as beef up their defenses in such a way to intercept the cloaked units. So you need to play your hand without showing it. Double-pronged strikes work fairly well in this regard, though other strategies often work better but are harder to execute. You send in one wave from one direction that draws mainly a certain group of enemy units, and then bring in the second wave from a different vector to make a quick strike against the detectors and other targets of opportunity before quickly retreating or joining the first wave in battle. In this way, your enemy is far less likely to realize what was actually your target before you are ready to deploy your cloaked units.
  17. Um, Imagery... we're in Poetry right now, not Short Story. SS is next time.
  18. Which, of course, makes sense from a story point of view. The Zerg were never a species to be subtle. They always just gathered their strength and threw themselves at the enemy. At least until Kerrigan took control. But even then, the only subtlety came from Kerrigan herself, and then afterwards she'd still just throw down the hammer on the enemy. It's always been a "overwhelm and destroy" philosophy with the Zerg. "FOR THE SWARM!" and all that, y'know? However, with Kerrigan at the helm for some time now, there may be more options within the Zerg for this game. We shall see.
  19. You know, I've been wanting to get into the remixing scene. This would be a great excuse for me to learn the basics... ... If it were held in the summer. You're starting this at the beginning of a college semester, so I can't devote the time right now. Maybe next time... I should go see if my Trumpet-playing friend (who is a member here) wants in. Probably won't have time, what with college and DBF going on at once, but hey, it's worth a shot.
  20. If I'm not mistaken (someone else can slap me and correct me if I am), Threaded mode doesn't have pages due to the way it is set up. As such, all the posts are on one page. ALL OF THEM. That's a lot of posts. The amount of memory allocated from the database for showing a thread is only so much (9500 bytes here, apparently), but due to the number of posts in that thread, the amount of memory needed to show all the posts far exceeds that, and thus you get an error. It isn't a "bug," so to speak. It's just an inherent limitation in Threaded mode.
  21. Alive and... well, maybe not kicking, but twitching, yeah. I'll see what I can come up with today and tomorrow (no classes tomorrow). Also, suggestion: in the first post, when saying what stage we're in, I think it would be wise to mention which competition we're currently in (Poetry, SS or Freeform). That way, people that haven't been keeping up with the thread (like people new to it) know what we're currently doing.
  22. Anyone can understand the Jedi Knight part; I'm a Star Wars fan. Anyone who's kept tabs on the Expanded Universe of Star Wars should make the connection that GA stands for "Galactic Alliance." I made this account when I was reading the New Jedi Order series, and I had gotten up to the part where the Galactic Alliance was first formed not long beforehand. While I still differ with them on several important matters of philosophy and such, my beliefs are closer to the general ideals of the Jedi Knights during the time of the GA than at any other time. (Specifically, Jacen's ideals after meeting Vergere but prior to Lumiya's influence on him are the closest to my own. But again, with specific differences.) I've been trying to think of a different handle to use in the future, as I'm tired of both this one and my other handle, but I'm having trouble thinking of one.
  23. Hm... That's odd. I've fought the golem twice and neither time did I encounter that other attack. It only used Iron Orb... Perhaps it's because I was attacking in sequence with two different elemental magic spells followed by the physical attack. I never tried to only use physical attacks on it; I always used the combination. Maybe making it switch three times in short succession caused it, or perhaps it only uses that second attack if you do enough damage with the physical strikes that turn. I don't know. All I know is that the strategy worked for me both times I used it.
