Musicians wanted for original RPG score
Thalzon replied to jordanroher's topic in General Discussion
Your heroine looks pretty friggin' hot for 46 years old. But it does sound like a neat game concept. I like the art style in particular. I can't help out with music or anything (unless you possibly need some hand-drawn stuff), but I look forward to seeing more from this project. -

Video Game Sales Down for the Year
Thalzon replied to Avatar of Justice's topic in General Discussion
CAPCOM NAMCO (Not complete -- don't know 50 separate characters without going overboard on the Soul Calibur/Tales/Etc) NINTENDO (wishful thinking) SEGA I don't have one for Squeenix yet. And no, I have no life. -
A) Metroid would become an actiony Tomb Raider clone set in space. Legend of Zelda would be doable but end up as hokey fantasy fare on par with the DnD movie(s?). C) It would follow superhero movie conventions more than anything and would probably, yes, be unrecognizable. And terrible. D) It's called Hellsing and don't for a second think it would be better than that. E) No rubber ninja suit? No dice, man. I'll go with E because I want rubber suited ninjas.

Video Game Sales Down for the Year
Thalzon replied to Avatar of Justice's topic in General Discussion
After 3 years of game college... Yeah, making games is a crazy endeavour and it's a miracle anyone gets anything done. After I graduated, I still felt like I knew nothing, despite all the modeling techniques, animation experience, rigging, texturing, lighting, level design, concept drawing, sound effect implementation, etc etc etc... It's heady stuff. Another reason games need big budgets is because it's more manageable to have everyone do what they do best, rather than have a small group of people who, while they may have all the skills involved for four tasks, are also worked 4 times as hard to produce stuff. World of Goo, as an example, has ALL aspects of the art (graphics, animations, etc) done by ONE guy. That's absolutely incredible, really. In fact, from the credits, 4 people made the entire game. But even then, they had a large "Special Thanks" section for stuff like the comapny who playtested it, and so on. Anyway, I'm rambling. Check my blog. It's dedicated to my personal projects dealing in game design and the like: http://coreyhallberg.blogspot.com/ -
Video Game Sales Down for the Year
Thalzon replied to Avatar of Justice's topic in General Discussion
There's speculation it'll come out in the next year or so for Wii. It's not certain, of course, but last I checked it was still on the release schedule on IGN. I didn't mean to imply piracy was the cause of sales being down (though it certainly doesn't help much), but what bothered me was that my friends and I all want to go into games as a career... But they pirate everything. They didn't seem to realize the irony. -
Video Game Sales Down for the Year

I'm such a sucker for this, but oh well... I'll often buy new as soon as I possibly can. Which is a dumb thing to do, since the games are more expensive and they pile up and remain unplayed for longer that way. But I do it because I want to support "my" industry. What really burns me, though, was how all my friends would pirate everything they could, and then justify it with "but I have no money!" So? That means you don't PLAY ANYTHING NEW. You go back and finish every game on the goddamn SNES or something first. I'm sure you'll have lots of money by the time you're done there. The worst were my friends with DSes. They'd never buy a DS game. It doesn't surprise me sales are down overall, though. It's a recession; people are stretching their dollars, and $50-$60 (or $60-$80 here in Canada -- prices went back up) for a game doesn't always look reasonable. -
I currently have a Wii and 360, but want to get rid of the 360 at some point in exchange for a PS3. I bought the 360 mostly for Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia, but I beat the former and the latter, and now the latter's getting a much-improved port. Most of the other games I've bought for the system just can't hold my interest for very long, which is a shame. LBP, Valkyria, Disgaea 3, and Ratchet and Clank I all enjoyed on my friend's PS3, so... Yeah. Anyway, I'm glad you chose something. The Wii is still my favourite thanks to all the quirky titles you can get for it for cheap, but the PS3 is finally getting some traction, so it's a good buy.

If you want an RPG, I humbly suggest Rune Factory Frontier, especially if you played and liked the DS ones. The game is extensive and addicting, though it does focus more on micromanagement than the DS brethren thanks to Runeys and much larger dungeons. The story is actually pretty nice and non-intrusive (though sugary and the main character is an idiot who can never draw conclusions from anything ever), and it's a great value if you're looking for a long-term game. I managed to invest 120 hours on one file before getting the itch to start over. EDIT: It's for Wii, so... Buy the Wii.

Don't forget there's also only like 10 episodes, maybe. I think the show only lasted one season, but it's still a neat show. Cyber Six also has her brother as a sidekick. His mind was put into the body of a panther.

Uh... Reinstall the drivers, maybe? I dunno. Maybe your pen is broken?

House of the Dead Overkill was great, but more because of its silliness and crassness (though having like 8 different guns helped with variety). I wonder how this will be in comparison.
-
I have a 360, and I even bought some new games for it recently, but... I'll probably wait and get the PS3 version later. I'm only keeping my 360 for as long as it takes me to beat/get tired of Banjo-Kazooie and Viva Pinata.

New video! -Video Games and the Female Audience-
Thalzon replied to sephfire's topic in General Discussion
Excellent video as always. In college I knew several girls in my circle of friends. They all loved different games, so I think it's more a case of gaming being a "boys club", or at least that mentality being there, than anything gaming is doing wrong. My sister, however, who is at best a casual gamer, often rolls her eyes at the gratuitous female designs. So there can be that as well. -
What's Warner Bros gonna do with them, anyway?

Why am I reminded of that one Penny Arcade comic about gamer grub?

Ohio teen who killed over video game gets 23 years
Thalzon replied to Zup's topic in General Discussion
Why is every news source saying he just got 23 years? He got a life sentence, with possibility for parole in 23 years. Depending on how messed up the kid is, he could be gone for life. -
Link's been taking lessons from Frank the Ninja, I guess.

Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled for Nintendo DS (CT Style RPG)
Thalzon replied to DarkeSword's topic in General Discussion
I looked for it today at the store, but it wasn't there and it wasn't on EB's order list, so.... I dunno. I want it, though. -
I wonder if the show will continue the, er, continuity of the movies, since so much about the Futurama world changed in those movies.
-
What about that black guy in the trailer who says, "Remember me?" Could he be Sylux?
-
Oh man. I knew they were thinking of everything, but I had no idea they'd make everything work. This is one game I simply must have.

I hope not too much danger. My niece is only 4 and I don't wanna traumatize her. The Abyss was scary enough without the sharks snapping at you down there.

Only the whiniest "hardcore" gamers would complain when Nintendo shows new Mario and Metroid footage, announces and shows a sequel to a beloved series fans have been waiting six years for a sequel to, and talks about what the next Zelda will be about. This is about as good as it gets short of plopping the games right in our laps right away. And like Toadofsky, I look forward to Endless Ocean 2 and Wii Sports Resort. It'll be great to play those with my niece.

I noticed Samus's armour was a little bulkier and more brightly-coloured than Prime's, but remember in this case we're not (always) behind her visor, so she needs to stick out amongst the environments so the player can see her at all times.
