HD releases of ICO and SOTC
prophetik music replied to The Dual Dragons's topic in General Discussion
that's the only reason i played it, BS. i wanted to see what the hype was. the movie in the middle of the game was ok, but as a whole i hated it. dual dragons, they already released GoW I and II combined for only 40 bucks, and the Sly compilation is going to be only 40$ as well. the only set of games that i'd pay more than that for would be all three of the PS2 FF games - i'd be comfortable with 50 or 60, since it's three games. but more than 20$ a pop and they'd have trouble moving units. -

i'm much more interested in the HD-izing of these games than the 3D. people who think 3D is awesome saw Avatar a few times too many - it really, REALLY doesn't work well in the standard living room, and with games that haven't been optimized to the level of Avatar, it slaughters your eyes after a few hours. it's the re-releasing of these games, with better art, that matters. first God of War I and II, now ICO and SotC...you'd want to look at other major series that would likely get updates. Kingdom Hearts is a no-brainer, particularly considering the cartoony nature of the graphics. FFX combined with either X-2 or XII (or maybe both) are also no-brainers. i only include X-2 because it's one of the top-rated games of all time over in J-land, i'd personally prefer X/XII. beyond that, i don't know what games i'd expect to see. those are the big console-specific money-makers that they wouldn't just make a sequel on the PS3 for (like Twisted Metal and Gran Tourismo). maybe the old MGS games? but i'd expect that to be a multi-platform deal, since MGS sold very well on the xbox as well as the ps2. DMC or RE are possibilities, but with the total series reboot to both of them (DMC upcoming, RE with RE5) i doubt it. -

Some basic hardware/setup questions
prophetik music replied to ichrius's topic in Music Composition & Production
actually, suzu, almost no interfaces manufactured in the last five years are USB1.1. so no worries there. hotplugging: if you plug or unplug a firewire device that's turned on (with an external power supply), you can fry your entire southbridge. says so in big boldy letters right on the front of my manual. not to mention a friend of mine did that a while back and torched half his motherboard. -

OCR01843 - Civilization IV "Destined for Greatness"
prophetik music replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
it's in 7/4, which means that there's one fewer beat every two measures from the original. that's probably the the rhythm thing you're mentioning. sorry you aren't a fan! -
dance fortress 2. it's only a minute, and some of the best animation i've seen yet in garry's mod. as in, it doesn't look like garry's mod. it probably isn't. the blu heavy at :28 is ROFL-worthy.

Virt's newest soundtrack - Shantae: Risky's Revenge

holy crap, that demo is bloody awesome. -
don't editorialize, it's annoying. also, as i've said for the past two years, please format your stuff correctly. if you want me to link to your generic pictures for your generic stuff (seriously, man, a USB hub needs a picture?), write the link yourself and leave the post number blank. i'll just fill that in.

got the discs, wes, thanks =)

tweek, i do that all the time. you create all the MIDI out channels in FL, set them all to port 1/channels 1-8, and then you click the little gear to the left of the X in the top right corner of the VST that you're trying to control via midi. one of the pages on that screen that comes up should have a choice to set MIDI in and MIDI out ports. set the MIDI in to 1, and you're set. that's the only way to control aftertouch, mod wheel, and other non-standard-mapping controls in some VSTs, like Kontakt Player and a few others, as well.

i second my request for a good saxophone library =) since there is absolutely nothing usable for a traditional composer out there. it's all jazz licks and pops, nothing more normal. edit: your link for the bass koto link doesn't work. i think you spelled something wrong, as the file's in your /demo directory and works fine.

Some basic hardware/setup questions
prophetik music replied to ichrius's topic in Music Composition & Production
on a mac, firewire's pretty good, and usb is pretty good. on a pc, firewire sucks ASS compared to USB. there's little difference in usable bandwidth - that is, firewire 400 and USB 2.0 are relatively the same, and it's hard to max out a USB 2.0 interface's cable bandwidth unless you're trying pretty hard, given that most computers will hit a wall internally before the cable's the issue. meanwhile, firewire has tons of issues, like no hotplugging, terrible support in general, and crappy drivers that often require reverting to XP's drivers in more modern OSes. if your interface is fully supported, however (like focusrite's interfaces, which i use), then the biggest issue is making sure you turn your interface off and let it fully power down before unplugging or plugging it in somewhere, so you don't blow out your southbridge. the myth behind firewire being a zillion times better for interfaces is directly traceable to Mac homerism and people assuming without knowing anything that the Mac is better for audio because something inherent about it is better than a windows-based machine. this is crap, and generally relates to the fact that Macs use better hardware initially (and cost like five times more) than the equivalent PC...therefore making your 2500$ Mac more reliable than my 500$ PC. it doesn't help that audio engineers are generally mystics and charlatans when it comes to their equipment (more tubes makes it sound warmer, man), and are willing to pay top dollar for a few percent increase of whatever numeric they're using currently to determine awesomeness in a desktop or recording rig. so, tl;dr version is that USB is in general better, but firewire when supported isn't a bad option. and Macs are expensive because people are dumb enough to pay it. -
Metroid Prime 1/2 Soundfont/Sounds?

not being clear. a filter isn't a synth - it's an effect applied to the synth's output, to filter out all frequencies above or below a certain level, or pass. you're going to have to play with the filter to understand what i'm talking about, but basically, you want the filter to only allow low frequencies through. so, play with the filter until you're primarily getting low-end stuff through it as opposed to higher-end stuff. or look for tutorials on youtube. a lot of this is hands-on experience. -
more spoilers you're forgetting one thing - kerrigan, even fixed up, still represents billions upon billions of deaths for two different races of sentient beings. not to mention the biggest mistake that he's ever had (she doesn't die like she's supposed to, and winds up harassing him for years). he wants her to die because HE WANTS HER TO DIE. he's willing to sacrifice anything to get that. tychus dying in the odin wouldn't do jack. they'd just keep loading more guys into it. the big deal was that tychus's prodding was what took the raiders to char, and (he hoped) to oblivion. either way, he gets what he wants - either the raiders get eaten and they're not an issue, or the QoB gets toasted and she's not an issue.
