  1. Sounds good to me. I really wanna see what people come up with, steampunk is something I love but have trouble drawing myself. I might even try and get a sketch done to share at least XD I had this great idea that I totally don't have time to do well. (Anyone here play Spindizzy? x3) On a sorta unrelated note, is it ok for me to put a link to my deviantArt account in my sig? I'm editing a sig for OCR and I was wondering. (I have some game fanart and a more finished versions of some of my FAC entries there~)
  2. Agreed. While I think this is an interesting experiment, and it's probably gonna lead to some useful developments (I like the flash memory!) if the OS is browser based, you're essentially gonna be limited by your internet connection. Right now, most cable internet providers, for example, either charge by bandwidth usage or begin throttling customers who go over an (invisible, unknown) set amount. This would cramp my style with Google's OS. :/ It's true you can do some graphics work in browser-based programs, but you definitely can't do it all. Sometimes my boss asks me why I work primarily off my own computer. "Can't you just leave it on the server?" I could, but while it's doable it's noticeably slower. I can't imagine doing hi-res graphics or like...editing video with a browser XD It's still really cool though. If they marry the OS to a very reasonably priced laptop, I'll pick one up in a heartbeat. I could use it to check this forum >_> It really makes you stop and think about the difference between what you'd use a laptop for and what you might only do on your desktop.
  3. Agreed. It seems like they just picked a song in English to match their intentions with the Japanese theme. I'm not totally sure if the song was written prior to the game or not, I know they do that sometimes...It would really be cool if they'd reached out to an English-language artist to create an all-new tune. But to answer everyone on YouTube complaining about the lyrics of the Leona Lewis song not matching the theme of Final Fantasy, I was gonna try to translate Sayuri Sagawara's song. It was taking too damn long because I suck. And I got bored. And I forgot how to write half the alphabet but it goes something like this: "It's okay if you want to cry." Because you suddenly said that to me, Somehow, so happy, not tears, but a smile escaped. With your words, so chivalrous, (I realized who you really were.) Even so we'll never part or anything, Now you've become a support to me like that. The rest of the song follows with a lot of stuff about the future being open wide and granting my wish and my feelings reaching you surely and stuff like that. *gags* So yeah. I'm not sure why they just grabbed an English song, but the relative...pop fluff irrelevancy...of the songs seems to match at least. :/ I wish they'd have a song that's a little more specific one of these days... People with better grasp of Japanese please to be translating this. D:
  4. Hmm...I think in a game where the character has to be like my avatar, I tend to pick a female. Like in an MMO (I play FFXI.) But if it's a single-player game where you get story based on your character's identity, I'd rather play as a guy so I have something to fangirl about. Plus it seems like in a lot of games the males have more interesting backstories (to me anyway.) ...Although, I was very tempted to make a male Elvaan in FFXI and just hit on dudes constantly. >:3
  5. I see what you did thar. Also, I don't mind doing a gift art for FAC 29 retroactively, we can use a random number generator or something. Might not get done right away (I'm doing NaNoWriMo. Kill me. ; And yeah, steampunk versions of normal stuff or steampunk games, s'all good~
  6. This actually looks pretty cool! Songlist looks good, and if I'm honest with myself I'd probably need the difficulty ratcheted down a bit from Beatmania level, anyway. I'll have to check it out...the price is brutal, though. ...I wanna know when we can expect a DJ avatar of the Decepticon Soundwave! >_>
  7. xD kk...I'll throw darts at the ideas I have or something, lol. I should so go to bed. *falls over*
  8. xD I thought they were made out of OH GOD WHAT IS JUMPING AT ME FACE IN LAVA Vilecat, since we were really close, do you wanna come up with an idea for the next FAC together? I don't think anybody would mind...I have a couple ideas, but nothing for sure.
  9. Yay! Thanks y'all. I totally didn't expect to win (I voted for you, Vilecat! <3) My entry is Flammie from Secret of Mana. :3 (...Btw, those Blargg guys always scared the crap out of me. ;
  10. amg, so awesomeeee XD Everyone had a different approach and they were all really creative. relyanCe, you should carve the Master Hand on your pumpkin!
  11. I enjoyed this song so much I had to turn off Last.fm scrobbling. I didn't want people to see how OCD I was, listening to the same song over and over. It's like Front Line Assembly knocked up Massive Attack and this was their beautiful love child. Brilliant!
  12. I like the one hour competition too, sounds fun! Just a matter of deciding which hour, I guess...I've heard of people doing like, live-drawing sessions online, that would be fun to do as a group!
  13. *sneaks in quietly* I remembered my password! Okay, now I feel really bad for not showing up at all... >_>a I agree that it would be nice to have more discussion and stuff about pieces, so it's not just like. "Oh, you won or lost, neeeeext!" I'll try and do something this month since it should be quick XD Personal and work projects are beating me up. ;; *hides again*
  14. *thwacks Arian* I rather mean to say I have the opposite problem, lol. I was always a bit behind the times on technology. Plus computers were expensive then. :/ I'll have to check 'em out.
  15. I had to look this up. Ohh...I must sit this one out. I have to say, I've never played any of those. >_< I don't think I even had a computer at that time! Yes, I lived in the dark ages. :/ Still, looking forward to seeing what people come up with!
  16. Hmm, this is a fun thread. I recommend Spanish electro band Dioxyde: http://www.last.fm/music/Dioxyde Check out "Geist" and "Morphine". Also try M83, French post-rock shoegaze sort of electronica outfit. http://www.last.fm/music/M83 For them I really like "Teen Angst," "*" (yes the name of the song is an asterisk...) and "Run into Flowers." And for something completely different, Ohio alt-country indie band the Magnolia Electric Co. http://www.magnoliaelectricco.com/ "Cross the Road" and "The Dark Don't Hide It" are good. Also, they offer a lot of free mp3s on their media page.
  17. T_T I didn't get to vooooote. I totally forgot, I am trying to finish this thingy for the FFXI fanart contest (WEDNESDAY) and....yeah. Oh well, that was my favorite, anyway! Great job everybody, these were friggin' awesome! Badass, Arian, that shit is bananas >.>;;; *ducks rotten tomatoes*

    JRPGs

I don't know if anyone else liked it, but I enjoyed Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. It's a short game, but the story is pretty interesting. That's for PS2. The original Shadow Hearts is excellent; I almost recommend playing Covenant first though, because it seems like everyone who started with Shadow Hearts was a little disappointed in Covenant. The gameplay is much improved, but the story lacks that weird sort of horror atmosphere the first* did well. If you haven't played Parasite Eve and you don't mind getting an old ps1 game, I can't recommend that enough! *Well, technically Koudelka is first.
  19. Twisted ideas, yessss >3 Those are always fun. I'm glad people are getting into it o.o Well, if anyone needs an idea still just PM me, I'm full of horrifying possibilities. :3
  20. I can agree with this. It definitely seems to be the way marketing is divided --- on one side, trying to pick up new customers with easy to pick up games, sort of "idle amusements" that anyone can enjoy, without being a part of a "gamer culture." On the other side are the games marketed to the regular fanbase, people who play games as a favorite hobby...But, although they call this "hardcore" I still think of hardcore as being someone who plays a bit excessively or obsessively. And the way they show it, it's like you're not allowed to like "non-hardcore" type games or you'll lose all the respect of your peers. I dunno... I think there's a lot more overlap than the industry seems to realize anymore. I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying a silly game on your Wii for fun. It doesn't make me want to throw away my SNES, and it doesn't mean I'm gonna cry that it's too hard when shooting hordes of aliens in the face...but that's the way they're marketing it. It's like they think they have idle housewives and basement-dwelling misanthropes playing their games with no in-between for those of us who just like playing games and grew up with them.
  21. Did I pick a bad theme? :/ I didn't mean to make it impossible for people to even pick an idea. I got the idea from a fanfic I read about Samus from the point of view of her target's bodyguards, and how much they are in fear of her, if that helps at all. If I were doing it I'd do something about Space Pirates getting a scary bedtime story about Samus. Or possibly Aya Brea blowing people up with her mind. Or maybe Link getting arrested for animal cruelty....wait, that's too close to the actual character. >_>
  22. You could draw that too, but I think we'd get in trouble. ;D
  23. Awww, but I wanna see the goody-goods being bad! Nah, I'm cool with that. If you've got an idea for villains being heroes, that's fine too. But if there's anti-heroes/evil protagonists like relyanCe said, I think they need to become the goody-two-shoes guys and not just worse anti-heroes.
  24. That sucks, computer issues are no fun. There's a lot of things it could be, and I don't know what this issue is for sure... But the random errors and bluescreen on cold boot...there's a possibility your hard drive could have bad sectors or be on the brink of failing. If I were you I'd back up everything before going any further. After that, maybe run a scan of the hard drive to check for bad sectors. It could still be the motherboard or other things... Honestly, if it's anything hardware related, I wouldn't mess with it yourself. Laptops are obnoxious.
  25. Yaaaay, thanks so much you guys! ^___^ I'm glad you liked it. And yes, it's a Tarutaru paladin about to become lunch, there. They do seem to get into trouble... I have what I think is a cool idea for the next challenge. I hope y'all like it.
