  1. The current state of a Pikachu either having one or the other is the best way to do it in my opinion. Either optimize your electric damage or help yourself against your ground weakness. I liked people having to choose between the two.
  2. You're forgetting this is group of games we're trying to create doesn't depend on time. By your flawed logic, we might as well eliminate all of the classics from the older systems.
  3. As cool as that concept is, it shouldn't be possible...this also brings me to the topic of knowing that species line is decent, but hating it due to the amount of attention it gets from the anime side of the Pokemon world. It really bothers me.
  4. Beatmania IIDX 9th Style: YES See my reasoning for 8th Style. Super Smash Brothers Melee: YES Tight controls. Gameplay eliminates any chances for button mashing to be effective. I could keep going, but I'd be wasting my breath. Marvel Vs. Capcom: YES Not exactly the best fighter out there, but it's loads of fun with a multitude of fun characters. On the downside, there are just as many (probably more if you really look at it) poor characters in the game that are just there to fill up slots. Guitar Hero II: YES Great rhythm game. Finally has a hammer-on/pull-off system that works and improves your play. Songs are good enough for me in this version. Most of it is newer than that you'd find in GH1. Beatmania IIDX 10th Style: YES I keep my reasons. OutRun2: YES Tight gameplay. Improved graphics. Slick style. I like. Grandia II: YES Fun gameplay you expect from a Grandia game along with a story I found enjoyable. Good characters in here. Good variety which was missed in Grandia III. Amplitude: YES Solid gameplay. Decent song selection. Rock on. Beatmania IIDX 7th Style: YES Same ol' same ol' God Of War: YES Over the top action with a crazy twist on the Greek mythological realm. Animal Crossing: YES One of the greatest time sinks known to man if you have friends who you can play with. Works best with other family members or with roommates. Elite Beat Agents: YES Clever and funny animation/story along with a good sense of difficulty. Never gets too hard for the rhythm game gurus, but it does deliver. Songs are a bit iffy depending on your taste and the fact that your hand is opaque can take some getting used to. Lumines: YES Fun and addictive gameplay. Puzzle mode is a lot of fun and just the standard game mode is also fun as well. Good way to spend your free time.
  5. Supposedly he's going to be hand-to-hand oriented and his arsenal will be mostly close-ranged and explosive. I think it'll be something similar to Ganondorf was...slow-ish but powerful. I think I'll like how he plays though I'm not sure how his whole crouching/laying on the ground thing will affect gameplay.
  6. I was thinking of a specific theme as a tradition per se, but you do have a very valid point.
  7. Last boss month? I dunno, a regular tradition might be nice.
  8. I'm sorry, but this amuses me greatly. /elitism
  9. I know exactly what you're talking about, but because most people don't I don't think it's happening any time soon. Which dissapoints me greatly.
  10. Dunno if this'll help anyone, but: I'm not one to discount an entire genre of music because of an image...or to discount multiple songs from a genre because I don't like the genre...except Country (sorry, just can't stand it). I think it's wrong to do anything other take each song individually and evaluating it then and there. I don't mind expecting a certain sound or quality from a specific band, but to completely discount a song because a certain band/genre made it is complete crap.
  11. Whoops. Just fixed that now. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: YES Fun gameplay along with a story that really brings you back to the OoT. P.N.03: NO Sluggish gameplay with little no variation. Doesn't look all that great and felt uninspired. Shin Megami Tensei III (aka Nocturne): YES Well presented with a fresh twist on the genre. Inclusion of a certain character is kind of lame...but it ends up being just fine in the end.
  12. In light of this, also change my vote for SoA (DC) from a NO to a YES. Same reasoning I'm afraid.
  13. I do not mean to offend, dsx100, but about your MP2 opening: The fact that it is too hard or too easy to not have enough attention for it is a turn off for some people into a game. Your explanation also leads to my point that if you don't already like Metroid, then you won't truly enjoy the game. I understand that it's an amazing game, and I wholeheartedly agree, but I think that approving it for a list of games that transcend any kind of loyalty for fanboyism isn't feasible.
  14. Dragon Quest VIII Journey of the Cursed King: YES Not my cup of tea in terms of art style (too close to DB/DBZ for obvious reasons: check the artist if you don't catch me), but then again, that's always been that way. Regardless of that complaint, the game does look good and is presented well. Amazing addition to the series and definitely a worthy buy. Beatmania IIDX 8th Style: YES Almost anything Bemani is a must-have in my book, but to be honest, there's nothing exceptional about 8th Style specifically. Beatmania is, in my opinion, one of the harder Bemani games to get into due to the sheer difficulty. I have been a part of the Bemani community for a while, so I already know of and am quite decent/good at all of the different rhythm games. Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge: YES Fun arcade action with good pacing in the single player mode. Bring it into multiplayer (especially with people in the same room even with, God forbid, the sharing of a single screen) and it is so much more fun. I've spent hours on end with my buddies just blasting each other out of the sky and stealing the booty for myself. A good time to be had. Psychonauts: YES The game has its own style and quirky fun. Nothing new or astounding in terms of gameplay in my opinion, but this is just so well presented that you can't pass it up. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes: NO While it is an amazing game, I do not consider this one to be on this list. The formula from MP1 is all there and the game itself is beautiful and full of depth. Unfortunately, the pacing is slow and unforgivable. I love to play the game itself, but when it comes to progressing, I lose interest because I already know all of the tasks at hand, and to be honest, it's just a bit much. I have beaten both MP games at least twice each, and I cannot recommend them for anyone who doesn't love the Metroid series already. Mario Kart DS: YES This is easily the best of the series in terms of gameplay and control. Bitch about snaking all you want, but this isn't the first time it's come up in a Mario Kart game. Complaints about the AI make no sense to me. The single player of a Mario Kart game has never given me a problem in the past, and this is no exception. I do consider myself on the higher end of the skill spectrum, snaking included, but I do not enjoy the online play. Although that is the biggest flaw with this title, that does not mean you can't get together in person with a bunch of friends and race. That's where the good multiplayer lies. Snaking is lame, but inevitable if you want to play competetively, which I don't recommend with this title.
  15. Sorry, I'm going to be lazy and my explanations won't be good. Skies of Arcadia (DC) : NO. Legends on the GCN is strictly superior. That is the only reason this gets a NO because this game is amazing from start to finish. Sure, it's a little cliche, but then again, most RPGs are. Shadow of the Colossus: YES The sheer scope of this game is enough for me to give it a yes, but then you add the beauty of it along with the amazing enemies, and it's that much better. RE4: YES 'Nuff said. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: YES Incredibly funny and original writing along with a good amount of difficulty which creates a game you want to keep playing that lasts long enough to keep you happy. Nominations: Second motion for Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria: Amazing platforming along with awesome tactical battles. Some cheesy uber weapons you could obtain with a decent amount of grind, but that's not necessary at all. Also...New Game+ which just increases the difficulty? Off the top of my head I think it gets 51X more difficult on the very last setting. Odin Sphere: Incredible artwork. Great presentation. Strategy and pacing are well done also along with the variety in characters. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm sure it can only get better.
  16. That information about the curse of the Flying Dutchman really ticks me off. Keeping that out of the movie completely ruins a large part of the story. That explains so much. Not to mention it does bring about potential for further movies unlike others who have said :spoilers:that a sequel couldn't happen because Elizabeth had her son and that means she didn't travel with Jack to find the fountain of youth so that she could live with Will forever. But now that's a possibility since Will is already immortal-ish and has a ship for them to go find it. Then again, what about him having to be in charge of ferrying the souls?
  17. I just spent the last ten minutes reading about the last ten pages. Very quickly obviously...and nothing came of it. This thread, for all intents and purposes is dead. All I have really seen is a bunch of members who have joined quite recently with relatively few posts (though I am not one to talk) degenerate this thread to that of one on GameFaqs where all they do is insult each other like a bunch of twelve year olds stating facts and claims rarely qualifying their statements. Something like this is an eyesore and should seriously be locked unless if the quality of topic and/or posts improves. Although there is a sense of elitism present in these forums, there is a reason. As far as creating public transcripts with the intent of improving society, elitist methods are what propel the rest to higher levels of thinking. Sorry about that last line. If you did not understand, read up on James C. Scott's work and do something productive. But seriously. Bottom line: improve -something-.
  18. Didn't Kairi have her own keyblade in KHII? That definitely couldn't be a keychain given to her by Sora or Rikku...or even Mickey for that matter. I'm not one to start delving into speculation over video games and such, but perhaps all characters in the KH universe hold the potential to a keyblade.
  19. I usually keep it to using Squirt and Frost towers upgraded to Typhoon and Blizzard towers respectively for multi-purpose owning. Really though, if you're having trouble or just want to see how other people do it, check the score listing and click on their name to see what design they used. It won't really work out to a 'T' because that's only how it ended, not how it progressed. Still, this is one of those games that is actually deep enough to have fun like this with.
  20. DTD is pretty fun. I've tested out all of the towers except for the Bash tower. it's just that with a slow-firing tower, a % stun won't do you much good. So far, all of my attempts have made all 50 lvls on normal mode...but I really just want to end the game with all of my lives left, lol.
  21. This just begs the question of how many people got owned so hard that they really left the site...
  22. That reminds me of F-Zero GX for the GCN. Great game for multiplayer, but when it came to getting full completion of the game itself to unlock everything...that became so very frustrating.
  23. Jungle Beat was fun while it lasted, but once you mastered all of the insane combos, it had no replay value. Though I must say that mastering all of those combos was -so- satisfying.
  24. Smash is an interesting aspect of gaming. It most definitely has its simplistic aspects that make it fun and very accessible to anyone who wants to try, but when you get to the real meat of it, it's quite the hardcore game, or so many will argue. I personally think of myself as a topnotch smash player and I'm sure that it makes no bearing on what I'm about to say. Yes, you do have the players that spam shine all over the place while using only one or two moves in tandem to get all of their kills. The problem is that it works. An even bigger problem is that it isn't foolproof. I personally play Samus, but I can hold my own with any character. I just refuse the regulars like Fox, Falco, Sheik, Marth. The point of what I'm trying to say is that while I do try to mix things up with different move combinations, you do have to rely on key moves in order to keep your opponent off of their game. When you get good enough, it stops mattering how good you are compared to your opponent (considering you're on somewhat equal footing), it becomes more of a game who can keep the other off of their balance. As Samus, I find keeping the charge shot at the ready will always throw them a little. I do use it a lot, and yea, maybe it's spamming, but you have to keep them off of their heels somehow. It's just how games are nowadays. I honestly don't know why I typed all of that...but it's gonna stay, it'd be a waste to delete. Sorry. Anyhow, about the depth being determined by the number of moves in a movelist: Yes, having a long movelist gives you something to learn, but also having other aspects to the game give you a lot to learn. You said not to use smash in it's own definition, but it's too hard not to use. You have different weights of characters affecting when they can down-cancel, you have kill priority of certain moves so you know which ones to pull if you want to get your hit in first so you don't die, or how fast certain characters fall regardless of weight so you can chain grab them if you want to be an ass. Seriously now, you can also apply this to something like the Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen series. Very simplistic, much like smash in its movelists and special setup, but then again, there's so much to know, like when there's going to be delay in an attack combo, or when your sidestep will be fast enough, or when you think they're going to add a little delay into their combo to lure you into a sidestep so they can pound you then. Seriously, you can't take depth at something like movelists, because that's only what you see at the beginning before you can even comprehend the game itself. That was waaay too lengthy for me, I'll do my best to restrain myself. Hehe. ^.^;
