Sadly, they're also stupidly old. Seems Nvidia's decided to ignore those of us with XP, and a 7000 series card for over six months, with only one new driver in getting close to a year. As for me, I'm using DHZer0point 0.8466, a user modified version of the Forceware 84.66 driver, and it's the best one I've found (though in truth, I haven't tried their 0.9291 driver). It has all the stability of the official driver, with a noticeable improvement in performance for the higher end stuff like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Black & White 2 (especially the latter), without taking a noticeable hit in graphics. I'm using this driver, because Nvidia's official drivers haven't done much of anything to improve performance for a long time. Sure, they focus on adding the new cards, and trying to make things more compatible, but in terms of actual fps gains, I've seen nothing in over a year. I don't know what they're doing, or why they're taking so long to make new drivers for us non-Vista folk, but it's extremely disappointing.

I've always seen system-centric magazines as being dubious at best, especially when they're "official". The Official Dreamcast Magazine, The Official PlayStation Magazine, The Official XBox Magazine... I've always wondered what the cost was for them to be "official". And Nintendo Power? That one just never sat well with me at all (a Nintendo magazine reviewing Nintendo games, run by Nintendo... 'kay). The reviews in these magazines always had a shadow hanging over them, because you know the game system maker was involved in the process at some point. It made you question how objective the reviews were. That's not to say all the "unofficial" system-centric magazines were beacons of hope for wayward gamers. The ones that EGM had (Mega Play and Super NES Buyer's Guide) seemed a bit more free, but looking back at their "reviews", I find it hard to believe I stuck with Mega Play up until its run ended (my God... the reviews were so bad). In a way, they weren't any better, as their reviews told you so little. But at least the looming shadow of a given system maker wasn't in the background. They gave their questionable reviews on their own

Yeah, that PM site takes a good 5-10 seconds before it starts coming up. Not sure why, it does.
-
Well, try this just to get it out of the way... - Download the previous version of the drivers (91.47) - Download Driver Cleaner (be patient, as the Planet Mirror site's a bit slow) - Follow Driver Cleaner's instructions carefully to completely uninstall the current drivers - After the needed reboot, install the slightly older drivers you downloaded, and see if that helps with the videos
-
And everything else runs fine? Games play normally, graphics software (like Lightwave) aren't affected, etc? Also, did you have an ATI card installed before this one?
-
Which version drivers are you using, and what's your OS?
-
Check page 2. Look for the big list

Looks like you beat me to the punch, sephfire. When I was adding the genre info to my list, I removed a few games... DC- Last Hope XBox- Samurai Shodown V XBox- SNK vs Capcom Chaos Unless someone else voted for them, there's no nomination for them anymore.

OverClocked ReMix Content Policy - Final Enacted 6/12/2007
The Coop replied to djpretzel's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
I see. Unfortunately, that still doesn't give the paragraph I quoted any greater sense of clarity in terms of language. It may obviously mean what you said to yourself and the other staff, but for someone who wasn't privy to your discussions, it doesn't read so clearly. As such, I still feel it needs a touch of rewriting to better convey what you just posted, Orichalcon. -
OverClocked ReMix Content Policy - Final Enacted 6/12/2007
The Coop replied to djpretzel's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
This is a bit vague in spots. Are you saying that the artist will no longer be able to submit remixes to OCR, or are you saying they might not be able to? The "Depending on the nature of the request" part suggests the latter, but "Artists whose removal requests are granted may no longer have..." suggests the former. A little rewording for clarification might be needed there, and in the "contributing further material" part. Maybe something like... "Once a work is submitted and accepted, OverClocked ReMix reserves the right to reject removal requests on the part of the submitting artist. Artists whose removal requests have been granted are at risk for no longer having their submissions evaluated, and thus being effectively prohibited from contributing further material to OverClocked Remix. The decision to allow or not allow future submissions from artists who have been granted a removal request is under the sole discretion of OverClocked Remix, and will depend on the nature of the request." -

Try going back to a previous version, like 2.0.0.2. or 2.0.0.1., and see if it still has trouble. Be sure to turn off FireFox's automatic updates, so that if things are working fine again, it won't update itself on you and force you to do the whole process again. There have been a lot of issues with 2.0.0.3., and you may have just started being affected by one of them. Don't know if it'll work, but 2.0.0.2 and 2.0.0.3. have given me big time headaches by crashing all the time when posting on forums, and a downgrade to 2.0.0.1. fixed that.

Is there a name to this kind of drawing style?
The Coop replied to Bigfoot's topic in General Discussion
I've always heard it called "Sketch Art" in my years as an artist. It can be done in ink, graphite, paint, digital, or whatever medium you want to use. The main thing is that the outlines and noticeable details (like a line suggesting the pit of an elbow or the bags under the eyes) is done to look scribbled in. The lines can be really fat like the image above, or kept thin, but they always look like they were somewhat violently chicken scratched onto the paper/canvas/screen. -
I believe the "underdogs" and "solid games" parts are what make me believe this was to be more than a Top 10 list. Underdogs don't get to the top ten (or the top fifty?), and I believe we all know "underdog/solid games" that we feel everyone should play/own. Maybe I'm wrong. Care to clarify sephfire? And careful how you word it... your thread may depend on it

Handheld Remakes Now now, before you get all excited thinking about GameBoy remakes or anything of the sort, this is stuff that predates the old gray brick. These are handheld remakes that go further back... like, Nintendo Game and Watch back. All the remakes in here are ones of the old LCD screen type, where all the images were pre-drawn and "lit up" when they needed to be shown. The game play was simple, the graphics were funky, and the sound basic bleeps and bloops. But boy were these things fun. My personal favorite, is the Dungeons and Dragons handheld, which I still own to this day (and yes, it still works ). So if you'd like to see what school kids (and some adults) were playing in the late 70s and early 80s, hop on over and give them a whirl. If you're old enough, it may just bring back some memories.
-
Not to be a smart ass, but... then why make a thread? A quick visit to a couple gaming sites can give you that kind of list. Places like IGN let you narrow down searches by only showing reviewed games that got a certain score or higher. As such, I can't help but think sephfire was looking for something more than just a typical "Top 10" list.
-
Yeah, games can get pretty personal at times, huh? How many flame wars have broken out here over one game or another? Some folks just take it way too personally when someone bags on a game they're fond of... like the put down was for them, and not the game. Take The Immortal for example. This is a game I had a lot of fun with. Detailed and clean graphics, good music, great animation for the time, tough but not unfair puzzles and sections, simple fights, and interesting characters. To me, this game was pure challenging fun. Yet to quite a few, it was an impossible to play turd. I could sit and defend it all day, but that won't change the fact that I'm in the minority on it. The game isn't broken with bad controls or spotty hit detection, it's just hard. And that level of difficulty turns a lot of people off to it, much like how an art style or gameplay type can do the same (the latter of which is another reason so many hate TI). I can't comment on the "Prime" series, as I've never played either of them. But I've taken a lot of shit for enjoying The Immortal, and I still defend it when these kinds of game requests come up. To me, the "Must Haves" aren't always the ones that got all the attention, or loads of high scoring reviews. Sometimes, they're the ones that to you, brought everything together for a great game that you enjoy playing over and over again. And really, I think that's part of what these types of threads are about... people pointing out their "Must Haves" that may not seem like it at first
-
Questionable by your tastes perhaps, Bahamut, but not theirs. If the thread maker goes off and looks up a game, finds it to be poorly reviewed, they're going to come back and ask "How could you like this game?" (assuming another poster doesn't ask them that before hand). Then the person can state why they liked it, and what they disagree with in other reviews. I refer back to my original point about "I don't agree". Someone could post every last reason why they liked a given game, and still have a dozen people saying that person's on drugs/full of shit/has no taste. And so, off the thread maker goes to see what's up. A lot of wasted effort, that results in the same actions in the end. Besides... if sephfire is like so many other people, he'll be looking up more info on the games listed whether someone posts a mini-review or not. Blindly saying "OKAY!" and forking out cash because of a single game review or list on OCR isn't a good plan. And if he has questions on a given game later, he's perfectly free to ask them. A lot of folks have no problems answering such questions, but they're not really up for giving all the hows and whys on something unless they've actually been asked. So, if Sephfire or anyone's curious as to why someone chose a game, all they gotta do is ask. An answer won't be far behind
-
Folks aren't able to look up stuff on their own anymore? I can honestly say I've thought about every game on my list. A game isn't there unless I've played it, thoroughly enjoyed it, and weighed it against similar games over the last few years that the list has been added to. I could go into detail about each and every one of the titles on my list, but what would be the point? All it's going to take is one person saying "I don't agree", and the thread maker's going to go and find reviews and info on the game themselves anyway. With a quick stop by sites like IGN, Gamespot, Gamefaqs (depending on the reviewer, and mostly for the older titles), Mobygames, Game Rankings, Rotten Tomatoes, and other sites like them, they'll get all the info they'll need, as well as (usually) more than enough reviews, screenshots, and viewpoints to help them make up their mind. And if they can't, then they can ask about it in the thread they made. If a game is listed by someone, it means they liked it (well, maybe not megadave's one list ). From there, it's up to the one asking for games to do the research beyond someone's implied, or written out, "I liked it".
-
How so? All you need is a Game Genie to play import Genesis (aka MegaDrive) titles, and the cartridges needed to play import Saturn games are plentiful, and cost less than many games (with the best ones being the 4-in-1 carts, which you can still buy new). Games like Vampire Savior and Thunder Force IV are quite cheap these days, and while the likes of Radiant Silvergun and Gley Lancer are up there in price thanks to eBay sellers and their "OMG RARE L@@K" bullshit, so are the American releases for things like Marvel vs Capcom 2, Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, and basically anything released by Atlus. But just because it's expensive now, doesn't mean it will be when they spot a copy. And if they look up info on a game and like the way it sounds, then when they spot that cheaper copy, they can act on it quicker. Besides... if I'm going to make a list, I may as well make one that covers everything I really liked on a system over the years, instead of just touching on a few. The more they have to look into, the better
-
Well if you're honest, you buy them from one of the many places import games are readily available either in store, or online. I'm not going to refrain from recommending something, just because they might download it, or get a pirated copy from somewhere. After all, nearly every game I listed can be gotten that way these days. It'd be a pretty short list if I avoided all such titles, ya know? the-almighty-tallest- Shit! I knew something felt like it was missing from the Saturn list. I also forgot Metal Black, Dungeons and Dragon's Collection and Layer Section II. Missed Metal Slug Anthology for the PS2 as well. I fixed that though. Bahamut- I left that off, because I've heard (and read) the emulation isn't as good as the MegaMan Anniversary Collection. Plus, I don't recommend what I haven't played myself. Good reviews is one thing, but I prefer first hand experience

Primal Rage. It's on a number of systems (old and new), but the version to go after would be the XBox/PS2 version in Midway's Arcade Treasures 2.
