Well, all the current submissions are in place on the back, and I finally finished writing my remix. Now I can start the whole mixing process (assuming you call what I do "mixing" ). I should definitely have it in your PM Box/e-mail inbox between 11 p.m. Dec. 22nd, and 2 a.m. Dec. 23rd, Dyne

Hey Dyne, could you send me the info on the tracks you've gotten so far? Namely, artist, title and duration? I figure I can get that info in place now, so that I don't have to hurry up as much when the time comes to send you the final back cover with all the info. I know you've yet to organize it in terms of which song is what track, but it's easy to quickly shuffle the layers.

Stellar Fire (Sega CD)- This game is so ignored, there are hardly any videos about it on YouTube (and one of them is busted). There are no links to it's soundtrack there either. Basically, it's a 3-D shmup of sorts that's rather mediocre (a 6/10), but the music is great. It feels a bit like a mix of metal, industrial, and electronica, with some songs being almost headbanging-worthy, and others that feel more like eerie soundscapes. Either way, it's a great soundtrack that never got a chance because of the game it was in.

Mine won't likely be handed in until the early hours of Dec. 23rd. I only just last night finally figured out how to fix the 5,8,5 bar issue (I thought I had it before, but... well, that fell apart quickly).

OCR isn't open, or trusting. All of us are hateful, suspicious people who can't stand one another, but we pretend we do so that we can lure more people to the site. Once that's been accomplished, we eventually figure out a way to destroy their sense of self worth, morals and sense of good taste. Our numbers grow, more people are brought here, and it all begins again. It's a deliciously evil cycle that fills the hearts of everyone here with the disdain for humanity that keeps us all going.

A mop, wasn't it? As for TE II, I wish I could help you. I've played the first game a good amount, but I've only played TE II a few times in MAME out of curiosity. So, its moves aren't known to me.

I know that everyone and their grandmother is familiar with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, and the music therein. However, I've always been partial to the Genesis version of those songs in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist. Something about the synths and such that just felt more fitting, and give it a harder edge. But since it gets bashed a lot and called a TIT (*chuckle*) knock-off, the game and its music just get pushed aside. So, here's a little sample of the Genesis take on those tunes...

The only two songs I could find good versions of from the Sega CD game, Soul Star. Just being on the Sega CD means it didn't get a wide audience, and seeing as the game wasn't exactly pushed hard marketing-wise... well, I believe it qualifies as not only being underrated, but not well known to boot. It's a great synth-orchestral soundtrack that could use some lovin'.

Master of Monsters (Genesis)- A lot of people don't even know this game exists. It came and went so quickly during the period when everyone was hyped about Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage and OutRun, that it just got passed over (and it's not even Jewish ). The music was produced by Koichi Sugiyama of Dragon Quest fame, and made by Hayato Matsuo (Shenmue II and Final Fantasy XII among others) and Hitoshi Sakimoto (Devilish and Bloody Roar among many others), so it had the musical backing. And the end result was fantastic. Sadly, there aren't many YouTube videos for it, but there is one for the title screen... ... and this video that unfortunately cuts off one of the longer songs before it's done, and doesn't feature all the music... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm6lGk6unhk I just had a review for this game posted on Sega-16 if anyone's interested on reading up on it.

You can talk about emulating games, you can tell people how to set up an emulator if they're having trouble running it, and you can even tell people the name of the ROM (some emulators need ROMs that go by a very specific name... like PS1 and TG-16 emulators). However, you CAN'T post any links to ROMs, or name a website where you can get ROMs. That's when you'll step over the proverbial line.

Well, around that time there was Desert War, Gekirindan (had a helicopter-like ship to use), and Kyukyoku Tiger 2 (Twin Cobra 2). I remembered a game called Grid Seeker: Project Storm Hammer, which also has a helicopter to choose from.

Daioh (1993) has special moves if I recall, but it's not a helicopter game. Could you give us an approximate year?

I'm also going to throw out the name, Metal Hawk.

Digitized images brings to mind Twin Eagle, and being able to rotate your helicopter made me think of Zero Gunner 2.

Update: I believe I've figured out what to do with my 5,8,5 bars issue, but I'll need to keep working on it to really see. Also, the cover is pretty much done. I've got a few things to touch up, but the bulk of the work is done. All I really need is the track listing when the time comes for the back.

Perhaps he thought it was too much of a throwback... a bit more like a remake than a new game. And well, we all know how much he loves remakes.

I didn't mean anything anything There are undoubtedly hardware limitations. You couldn't get the SNES to do Resident Evil 2 (the BGs and music would probably be all right though) or Spyro the Dragon just by adding more storage space. I was just pointing out that 4GB of data can allow a hell of a lot more to be done than 32Mb of data (4MB for those keeping score)... including real FMV, better than Neo-Geo quality music sample-wise (hell, just sample the CD audio really), more on-screen colors, etc. I just forgot to add the line "(within the hardware specs)" after "anything", that's all.

Of course anything's possible when you bump up the memory. You can do more with a 32Mb cart than you could with a 4Mb one, so it's not shocking that 4GB would yield bigger and better results. More memory equals more color (had to be fickle with color usage and re-usage back in the day to conserve space), better music samples, greater capacity for more individualized graphics (fewer tile sets needed to save space)... all that stuff. The Genesis would also yield impressive results if you crammed 4GB of data into a cart. Hell, the original GameBoy likely would as well. Nothing new or surprising in any of this IMHO.
