Try using a good MP3 encoder. I personally use dBPowerAmp, 'cause it does tagging and cross-encoding and all that jazz, and I have a preset for 96-192kbps VBR. uhh... 42 mb? Is it an hour-long symphony or is is just a .wav file?

Enabling MIDI in FL is really easy. Hit F10 and select whichever midi output device you want to use to Port 0. Exit out of that and go to the "options" toolbar and select "Enable MIDI output."

Your answer is Sonar, with ReWire. That's the only real tempo automation you can get. I don't think it works 100% of the time but I've seen it done so I know it's possible to do.

Your ears are the most useful tool for this [never forget that!]. Sometimes there'll be interfering frequencies that you can't hear. You could see them with a spectragraph if you want, though I don't know if Reason offers anything like that.
