  1. When I was reviewing stuff on VGMix, I would base my entire review on the first listen. I still feel that's the best way to go about it, since listening to it a billion times before you say anything would dull your feelings about the song. Sometimes I would write AS I listen. It's also great for a musician to get feedback as fast as possible. Some people would probably disagree with this viewpoint heavily and say "but some songs you can really grow into!" Sorry, I don't have that kind of time, especially with the sheer number of VGMixes that were on the site. In fact, a lot of songs on VGMix I have deleted since the site went down, because I suddenly stopped liking almost all the songs I kept from the site. So generally my opinion on a lot of songs worsen over time. That's just how I do things. You can listen to the songs however many times you like, I don't care (゚⊿゚) As for what to write, it's simple. Tell them what you liked about the song, then what you didn't, and how to avoid the same kind of song issues in the future, or tips on how to resolve certain songwriting/production issues. Thankfully I'm at least a little knowledgeable on these things, so I can be a little less ambiguous than the average listener, but everyone's feedback still counts. Personally, I like seeing what a normal person thinks about my really really weird stuff though unfortunately I haven't made nearly enough of that lately.
  2. http://www.abyss-online.de/download/WinAHX_1_0_WinAmp2.zip This actually comes with 80 or so .ahx files, and I think I gave you all the Pink ones in the pack here :] There are, of course, more .ahx files outside this .zip, but not all of them work with this plugin [m0d makes some .ahx files that just crash winamp (((]
  3. You probably have "record to step sequencer" enabled in the midi options.
  4. Disregard DDRKirby's solution, unless I'm wrong. Instead, try the event editor. Find the pitch knob again, right click on it and use the event editor for pitch shifts. But I hate doing finetuned pitch shifting by hand, personally. I use the pitch wheel on my MIDI keyboard for that.
  5. pitch knob is in the channel properties window
  6. ooooh I really like this one. Creepy
  7. #207a-207b nagz / hringur [stream] those long term kahvi listeners will recognise this next artist. we welcome, the curious, the odd, the crazy, nagz back into the kahvi collective with a new mini ep. not usually releasing two track eps, I`ll make an exception for this strange oddity by the crazy hungarian. nagz has always been consistant with his weird but addictive melodies and slightly eccentric production and hringur is no exception. great, giddy, oblong, yellow - well, you`ll see what I mean when you listen. check out nagz` mini site which he created especially for this release: http://hringur.jol.hu leave feedback download whole ep as ogg (.zip) download album art download whole ep as mp3 (.zip) loud year [stream] [main download] [mirror] quiet year [stream] [main download] [mirror]
  8. oc-carthage.mp3 - 7.6mb It's like techstep AND psytrance! EXCITEMENT! It's a full six and a half minutes of dark beats. Enjoy!
  9. So Renoise, a modern take on the classic FT2 interface, has just updated to version 1.8. If you've never heard of it before [or FastTracker 2, for that matter], you can check it out at http://www.renoise.com/. It's quite different from everything most of you have used, but I find tracker interfaces fun to use, though a lot of Renoise is still confusing because I haven't used it extensively yet. Listen to the demo songs though and you'll hear how capable this thing is. I think the best part is that it's such a bargain at 50 bucks. So like, even I can afford it! Here's a video of it in action lol News post about it: So yeah, just pimping this 'cause it's keeping the tracker spirit alive.
  10. I completely bombed mine, it was almost like a forced meme
  11. What I meant by side-by-side was I was inspired to create music by other members of OC ReMix, I got FruityLoops since... Well, I dunno. But I had fun just making blocks of shit because it sounded cool. At the same time though I learned how to play the piano, which helped me analyze more deeply how songs should sound, though it still took maybe 2 years to go from 0 musical experience to... well, I didn't totally suck by then
  12. I started with that, but you need to come to understand music as well. I kind of learned both side by side but others will say you need to know how to read/play before you can write, which is a reasonable path. All I can say with certainty is: experiment endlessly, have the will to learn and the ability to handle criticisms.
  13. http://www.myspace.com/darklordlegions It says you can download the songs but it isn't working for me... I really like this music, though. Retro scary, like a mid-to-late 1970s or early 80s horror flick soundtrack, simple but nice warm sounds and good harmonies. There's a remix by Bucky on the page too... I think this guy is a shizzie but I'm so out of touch with that place now [i FEEL BAD]
  14. http://famitracker.shoodot.net/ < you can make .nsf files with this http://www.neobitz.com/Pages/DevTools/MVSTracker.aspx < horribly unfinished and unusable Genesis/NeoGeo tracker http://www.tweakbench.com/ < has a bunch of NES samples in VSTi format. Not good for writing authentic chiptunes but you might as well use them in a song somewhere
  15. Apparently DBZ was aired 1989-04-19 to 1996-01-31. Unfortunately, all the good Sonic games were also made during this time [and the creation of Super Sonic], so I have no idea who started what. It might even just be an obscure cultural thing people outside of Japan don't know about.
  16. Of what family of processors does yours belong? Pentium 3? Athlon?
  17. bummer in memoriam I will listen to his tracks on plopbox. I mainly remember him for James Pond 2, though I had the Genesis version where Rob Hubbard turned the songs into FM just search for artist "joseph" and you will be taken to his MODs SIDs and YMs
  18. DUH, it needs to be mastered first (゚∀゚)
  19. Tepid just linked me some stuff http://namco-ch.net/mojipittan/extra/download/index.php namco freebies, has some fun songs, http://namco-ch.net/mojipittan/extra/download/mp3/mojipittan_bedtime.mp3 [FOR REALZ] http://download.namco-ch.net/mojipittan_futari_remix.mp3 etc I think they are pretty old but hey they aren't in this thread yet
  20. What are you using the midi controller with? In any good DAW you can adjust the latency levels to shorten the delay time. Latency [in audio production terms] is the time taken in digital audio systems to convert the signal from analog to digital, process it and then convert it back to analog. In computers this is adjustable. Depending on how good your audio drivers are, and the rest of your system, your latency will be low or high. Careful though! If your latency buffer settings are too low, your system can't keep up and the audio will have "underruns," which means the audio will start to crackle and pop, and your project will become unworkable. You can always just set it a bit higher if that happens though. If your latency is still too high, you might look into ASIO4All, freeware universal ASIO drivers which are a big improvement over general consumer soundcards like Soundblasters. Google these terms if you're confused, and read the manual on your DAW to figure out how to change the latency.
  21. noap sorry dbpoweramp has a modules plugin but it sucks at converting them. BTW I hope you're using this: http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=132367 plays mods back much more accurately, NEEDS TO GO IN CHIPAMP sometime :[
