  2. Stuff for the synths to do automatically. In addition to plunking down notes, you can map MIDI commands for other parameters on synths, like pitch, or cutoff and resonance [google it!], and you're able to record these actions in any competent DAW [Cubase, Sonar, FL kind of]. If your MIDI controller has programmable knobs and faders, this is possible to do. Thing is, you gotta program them first. Reason, I think, has a thing that reads your MIDI controller and sees what you have, but that's the only software that does that right now.

  4. How else do you use a MIDI controller? Yes, the entire song is better left off to live recording of EVERYTHING. You can do about 30 decent live takes or 1 mouse-clicked sequence, in the same amount of time. The live takes are already realistic too [don't need to "humanize" anything]. Quantizing takes no time at all, use it at your discretion.

  6. No? All the sustain pedal does is hold the noteoff until you let your foot go. It doesn't seem like something software would particularly notice.
  7. What? No... I found a generic [but Italian-made!] keyboard sustain pedal at a thrift store for $5 and hooked it up to my keyboard, and it worked instantly, I didn't need to change anything. Looking at the MIDI options though, now. Hit F10, and check off "Support hold and sustenuto" Easy!

  11. Well, you don't really need any of that stuff yet. Just WRITE SOMETHING with what you have, RIGHT NOW, or you'll never understand how the higher-end stuff works. You don't need the cream of the crop right now. The first thing you gotta do is... understand the difference between synthesized sounds and samples
  12. Modern VG music? If you want American, you need Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra, Vienna Symphonic Libraries, and Absynth 4. Japanese VG music? Look for a 10 year old Roland synthesizer.
  13. That's kind of sad. Don't worry, eventually you'll become accustomed to what is real and what is fake. Good news for the guys behind Sytrus though, I guess. FL Studio 7 is out. It improves on everything.
  14. Hell yes. Google Superwave P8, it's free and you get decent trance pads and leads right in the presets. FL comes with okay dance drums, though you might wanna get that huge pack of drums Zircon has. I have no idea if he still has it anywhere for download, but I got this huge pack of oneshot drums separated by bass/kick, snare, and hat/cymbal. Probably some duplicates in there and the samples are a varying quality but there's some OK stuff there. Ask him :3
  15. uuuuuupgraaaaaade Also, those Sytrus sounds are just the presets. Those sounds are, in fact, the synthesizer with premade settings. I'm... not really sure what you're trying to ask. Why do you want to make sounds just like them when you already have the presets for them?
  16. Find a good acoustic snare sample, or snare roll sample, add a ridiculous amount of reverb with huge attack for that cliche military sound.
  17. God, those V-Accordions are a fucking ripoff. I'm looking on Froogle and seeing $3000 or so. My accordion is nice-looking, plays well, has a good range of tones, and was only $400. Of course, there's no midi outs, but that's why you get a midi keyboard for $50.
  18. Workstations are meant to be the only thing you need to write a song. On a full workstation keyboard you'll find synthesis, a sample bank, and/or a sequencer of varying elaboration. Something you can write entire songs on. Some examples: That thing Usa has, the Yamaha Tyros-2 [omg, pretty lights!], or a few of the hundreds of versions of Korg Tritons.
  19. Obviously. But if I don't know or care what I'm missing, it's no problem The whole point of why I'm remixing in the first place is out of nostalgia, so why pay homage to something I've never experienced? Hell, why even listen to the music designed around that experience?

  21. Actually, if you're looking around the $45 range, there are some older keyboards [like, early '90s] which have at least 61 keys, pitch/mod wheels and velocity sensitivity. What I really want myself is a smaller keyboard plus octave switcher key. I have a 61 key Kawai keyboard as my controller right now and I always keep wishing it went lower than C3 If you're looking for 88 keys though, why are you looking at the Prodikeys? Look for full keyboards. Or are you really sure what you need? You do need a midi controller, but there are a lot of different types. What are you looking for in one?
  22. To get the most out of Slayer, you'll need a midi keyboard with a very good pitch wheel. Slayer is also velocity sensitive. When you barely hit the key, you get INSTAFEEDBACK, YAY! You can do all sorts of things with the event editor and the mouse, I guess, but that's boring as shit.
