  1. This is the best idea! They REALLY need to do this. The DS player could be limited to only a certain length of line(s) and only every so often. Plus it doesn't seem like it would be incredibly hard to implement...just have a little mini-app sent to the DS before the match.
  2. Happy birthday indeed, and thanks again for mirroring my album.
  3. Actually, I think you might be right...one of my roommates ONLY plays EA sports games, so it'd be perfect for him. I guess if nothing else it'd be a big blow to all the other companies - EA does make some popular stuff, after all.
  4. Too bad people couldn't do so well with Pikachu - he was always one of my best, along with the nonexistent Captain Falcon. Thanks for the updates! I hope this means we won't see a billion meta-knights every time we play online...
  5. It might be good for the industry but I can't see it being good for EA...everyone buys their games for all systems - I think if they made them exclusively no one would buy. I mean, I certainly wouldn't buy a whole new console to JUST be able to play Madden and Medal of Honor...
  6. Wow, this is the first thread I've ever visited on this forum. The guy complaining is ridiculous enough as it is, but in the first page people said "get over it", "deal with it", "too late", "live with it", and "quit being whiny brats". So yeah, I pretty much hate that whole community now. My god. That said, the whole "fall over with direction change" deal ought to be interesting. I don't think it's a bad thing, but I think it'll definitely make people think a little more carefully instead of just button mashing as fast as possible.
  7. Hey, did you notice at the end of that second page earlier, that accelerator thing that throws pit/mario is just like the ones from flying battery in Sonic and Knuckles. Wonder if that's supposed to be a reference.
  8. Good composers or not, it would be nice if the music sounded a bit more professional...
  9. Sweet, somehow never got around to playing this. I look forward to it.
  10. Sweet! About time. I only wish it had been done with zelda. Still, this is all the more reason for me to want it. Damn, I wish Brawl would do this too. It sounds great!
  11. I highly approve of your radiohead-esque sales tactic! You receive lots of cool points for that alone. Congrats on finishing another album, though. I have almost all your other stuff, so at some point I might check this out as well.
  12. I didn't mean to come off like I was complaining or whining - and I did generally scan this article, since I was curious. All I was trying to say earlier, and what this article doesn't really seem to address as much, is that wavedashing completely changes the way you play the game. I'm not skilled enough to pull it off (I'm not naiive enough to think it doesn't take skill to do and is "cheap") and as a result I'm playing against people who aren't running as I am, they're sliding everywhere, faster, with better agility and easier ability to attack faster. That's not unfair, but they are indeed playing an entirely different game. I also wasn't suggesting there be a "patch" to fix wavedashing in Melee (as this article says most complaining people suggest) as it's clearly part of it at this point...but I meant to say I was hoping they'd fix it in Brawl, since that's a new game and it being in Brawl only means that that divide is still going to exist. Snaking in Mario Kart DS is much the same way. If your fingers are fast enough to do an incredibly intricate combination incredibly quickly, then you'll probably win, but that isn't where the challenge of the game is supposed to come from. So yeah, I do think it even "breaks" it in some ways. I don't want any kind of "ban" because lots of players enjoy it and rely on it. But it does do a fine job of keeping me from playing, which is irritating at best. Anyway, I didn't want to derail this, so carry on.
  13. I suppose I can see that, though most of those album releases you're talking about are all done by ONE artist (making an artist entry in the filename irrelevant to begin with), as opposed to these multi artist compliations and collab tracks found on albums here (where they're arguably more necessary). While I do really like the above idea of just putting "various artists" whenever there's a collab, I can also see how just omitting the artist would keep it much more consistent, so I'd definitely agree there. Still, I do also think it'd present a problem when you'd just want to listen to or sample a particular artist from the album (particularly if it's as large as VotL) especially before adding it into iTunes or an equivalent program (as I always do before adding something into my collection).
  14. I'd like to bring up this thread and the following in particular: Maybe, but at the same time, there's something to be said for having REASONABLE difficulty (tough but fair as DukeNukem007 said). When something is so hard that I die over and over again and have to retrace the path to said hard part over and over, I just get sick of the game. When I finish that area, I don't feel triumphant - I feel sick of the game and I feel weary from seeing and doing the same damn thing 20 times. For me weariness doesn't equal fun. When a game is REASONABLY difficult, especially for a boss, it's hard when you don't know what to do - and then after a couple times/deaths you figure out what you need to do and it ought to be relatively easy. Then I feel like I've accomplished something because I figured out the weakness - if I already know what to do and I STILL can't beat it, then it's entirely about using your reflexes, not your head, and I don't really care as much when I win. Modern games are relatively easier because now they understand a lot better about what makes a game fun. I still agree with myself. I think that there's such a thing as a game that's challenging and rewarding without being needlessly difficult. I play games to have fun - I don't do it to be tortured into absolute perfect execution of a series of steps, only to have to repeat the process for the following level. Balance is incredibly important with any game that's going to have serious replay value.
  15. I think it's important to have the artist names though - otherwise it just comes out as OCREMIX MADE THIS, and nobody gets credit where credit is due (except in ID3s). I think there ought to be some other way around it.
  16. Great, so I guess now I'll be playing Brawl like a normal person while my friend is going TIKKITATIKKITATIKKITA on the controller like he's having a seizure, just like Melee. Sigh. I was kind of hoping they'd fix "wavedashing" and all those other techniques players gave names to. Just so long as they fix snaking in Mario Kart Wii, I guess it'll be ok.
  17. Oh, I didn't see that - I did see a bunch of hearts surround the screen and the characters though. Whatever.
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if his original outfit shows up as an alt-color.But honestly, Wario Ware's taken over the general mindset of Wario's "look" as far as most people seem to be concerned. You're literally the first person I've seen across 20 message boards to wish the old style Wario was being used instead of the new. No, I also MUCH preferred the old Wario to the new one, and I'm sad to see them totally ignore the better one. Wario, including his games (but moreso his character), has become Nintendo's outlet for random humor, and they've totally left behind his roots of being a badass, disgusting, garlic eating, laughing, greedy guy who sits on his golden throne and body-slams cute little fuzzy creatures. I would have much preferred Wario Ware to be an awesome side game without totally obliterating his platform roots. Wario World, while short, was totally the right direction. Master of Disguise doesn't count. Of course neither were even made by Nintendo. Whatever, we're stuck with the lame Wario who has FRIENDS, watches TELEVISION, and runs a LEGITIMATE BUSINESS to make his money (as opposed to just plundering/stealing it and then spending all his spare time counting/drooling over it). I guess I'm at least glad he's in Brawl at all to begin with, though. Now, onto other matters - this new stage is a relief (though I've never played mother 3) because all the previously announced stages seemed pretty compact... glad we got another Hyrule Temple to play with.
  19. Another option is to use one of a number of soundfonts that mimic the sound. Here's one generously offered by Darkesword's soundfont page. You'll need SFPack to decompress them and some kind of sequencer with soundfont support. http://soundfonts.darkesword.com/fonts/setzer_spc.sfpack
  20. I liked NSMBs physics, but I think it took way too long to accelerate to top speed. Because of that, I'll probably go with SMB3 as well (SMB3 over SMW simply because it was faster).
  21. Online petitions never do anything though....it's a proven fact.
  22. Oooh...I recognized this and couldn't figure out where I'd heard it before. So that's where I remembered it from. Wonder what the deal is?
  23. I'm beginning to agree. Valve not only has some excellent games, but I think Steam keeps getting better and better as a delivery service.
  24. The newest additions to the front page. But "whaaaaa....!!??" in a good way.
  25. I've been meaning to comment on this track for awhile - the recent bunch of particularly good remixes has reminded me to do so. Now I was a bit so-so on the first minute (interestingly enough where you guys seem to have the most prominent use of the source material), but when you break into generally original stuff around 1:30 on and from there, you totally had me hooked. I really liked the guitar rhythms. Also from the latter half of 2min onward, I really loved all the chord changes and transitions and the groovy drums you break into. The subtle ways you include some elements of the source were excellent as well. The ending was a very nice way to finish it off. In short - groovy, sweet guitar, catchy melodies and transitions, kickass. PS - it suddenly occurred to me that Tepid, the mixer who made my personal favorite entry from the first Original VG Music Contest was involved with this track. So now I guess I'll be listening for you a little more closely!
