OCR01642 - Super Mario RPG "Leafcutter"
Antipode replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Sweet! I remember getting the WIP of this a long time back and loving it! This was always one of my favorite tracks from SMRPG (because of its intriguing time signature and interesting melody) and you've definitely done it proud. This is awesome, all around. Seriously, fantastic. And I don't review/comment often. That said, I do wish the guitar wouldn't continually drop out and come back in the middle portion (only because while it's out it leaves it feeling a bit empty) but the guitar itself sounds great. Also the bass in the beginning part is just a bit weak. However, excellent arrangement of a very tough song. Not many songs are this tough - one of the only others I can think of would be like, maybe the final level theme from Wario Land II that Maxo remixed recently. Anyway, congrats on the post, and nice pick for remixing - I ALWAYS love more SMRPG. -
I thought this soundtrack had lyrics in almost every song. I wouldn't know because I haven't played it, but every single song I've heard from it does...

That's just what I was thinking.

http://versuscompo.e-concerto.net/forums/index.php?topic=102.0 There you go. All 7 entries are available for download/voting there. Just make sure to also post in the thread in addition to voting in the poll, so you can give a reason for your choice. Also, haha, I guess we're an "official" competition now. Didn't notice the move at first...I more just kind of intended this to be a thread to gain interest since the competition isn't taking place at OCR...but ok!
-
BUMP. This month's competition is nearing a close and all the entries will be available for download late tomorrow night. Remember, while you guys didn't participate you're more than welcome to download all the entries once they're available and vote for your favorite! I'll post the link to the voting thread once it's available.

They used the exact same words, "count on it", when talking about whether or not Sonic might be in it awhile back. Just sayin'. Also a Bramble stage would improve my enjoyment of this game by so much...

No, but setting up a 99 life match with four level-9 ice climbers on Lightning speed with only super mushrooms on max is pretty fun, especially on the smallest stage. It's impossible to even tell what's going on.

An interesting quote from IGN's newest Smash It Up, just to keep things moving:

SNES music BPM? (Beats Per Minute)
Antipode replied to Nerd42's topic in Music Composition & Production
I just put like a snare hit on every beat for about 32 bars or so, then start it playing along with the song and adjust the tempo in the sequencer up and down (first coarse adjustments, then fine) until it matches up perfectly through the whole song. -
Jay-Z song uses Chrono Trigger sample? **FALSE - MYTHBUSTED**
Antipode replied to chrono26's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I'm not really hearing the forest theme in this (or even the background strings). Granted the strings in this sound the same as the INSTRUMENT used in CT, but I don't hear any similarity other than that. But yeah, decent song I guess. -
I remember this project from some time ago! Good luck on your more official discussion with Square.
-
Thanks, I'll keep that one in mind too.

Aw, I always liked that one too. Didn't realize it was gone. But as I always say whenever this topic comes up, the first remix I listened to here was Blue Lightning, a Mega Man 3 mix by Disco Dan. Someone played it for me, and a quick google later led me here. This was back when the remix was new, though - it was much later that I actually joined the forums.

Actually I'd say it's a Great JST update. Oh god, that was actually pretty horrible, even for me.

Just disconnect your wii from the internet! Then you can keep it.

Filters and automation clips for morons.
Antipode replied to HoboKa's topic in Music Composition & Production
Well to start with you could look at the responses to this thread, but as for filters I'm afraid I can't help you... Seriously though. This stuff seems pretty basic, but good luck finding ANYTHING in the FLStudio help about how to do them. FL is kind of weird from time to time - it seems like everything is perfect and really well-organized and then all of a sudden there will be a feature you'd expect that will just be mysteriously absent. Half the time it's just hidden pretty well with no easy way to find it and the other half the time it just isn't there at all (e.g. implementing swing in notes in the piano roll - I spent like an hour or two of searching and messing around, looking through google and the help file, certain the feature existed, only to find that after all this time there's still no way to do it except slice each note yourself...and personally, I NEVER use the step sequencer at all to begin with, so why only have swing available there?). -
Looking for some advice. I want a keyboard for two purposes - the first is just simply to be able to screw around and play with chords and noodle around until I can figure out new melodies, which is probably the most important use for me. The second, once I get good enough at practicing basic piano with it, is to possibly provide small live solos for my music. In addition, I want at least 61 keys (so I'd be able to still play piano if I liked). I own FL Studio, and I'm fine with having the keyboard just be a MIDI controller to be integrated with my current "setup". Remember that pretty much the primary reason I want it is just to play with sound and chords so I can come up with new melody ideas, but I don't want to be kept from learning basic piano on it as well. One other thing would be that I'd like to have it in the 100-250 dollar price range, which might be tough with that number of keys. Any recommendations? EDIT: I'm looking at the M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 at the moment...it's decent, in my price range (used) and possibly what I'm looking for but I've heard mixed things. Anyone have any other ideas that beat out the keystation in value? Also one last question that I've been thinking about is latency - with these kind of controllers I don't want any delay at all between the press of the key and the sound from the speakers. Should I expect something like that, even with a fast computer?

I thought he just meant one, in the center of the screen, and with all-around gravity like in galaxy. That'd be cool. And yeah, poke-floats was awful.
-
Ooh, that'd be cool. And maybe every so often a tunnel would appear that would connect through the middle.
-
Interesting how we're our worst critics while being our biggest fans. Weird combo.

I've seen the topic come up before and I think doing this is fine. You made it and you'll always hear a special quality about it that other people won't catch. You'll also catch all the subtle nuances about it that no one else does. Maybe it's so appealing because it's music you can listen to and completely understand through and through in every small detail and that makes it more satisfying in some ways. That said, don't do it too much. Not only will it make your music get old and worn to you, but listening to other artists frequently is the best way to improve yourself.

Game demo looking for original music track!
Antipode replied to strtok's topic in General Discussion
Wow, this looks great so far! I'm somewhat interested in contributing music (wouldn't be much help with sound effects, I'm afraid) but I'm a bit swamped with random projects and contests at the moment, so if I'm able to I'll definitely get back to you. I look forward to seeing where this project goes at the very least. -
Video game survey for class - ULTRA SHORT - win an album
Antipode replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
I took it. Glad it was brief. -
This game will be dead to me without my falcon. Ok not really but seriously, I need my falcon.
