Thanks ZealPath! Glad you like. I just thought I'd bump this thread to mention that I've just put of a lossless FLAC copy of Superscape (and Antechamber as well) on their respective release pages, so download as you please! Also, I might as well mention that in the months since Superscape was finished I've been working on a short concept EP called "Where Am I?" which will be done and released, hopefully, sometime next week! By the way, would it be cool if a mod eventually moved this thread into WIP:O? E: Sweet, thanks.

Explain to me this "high definition television"
Antipode replied to Nekofrog's topic in General Discussion
A couple years ago I was in a Fry's with my dad and we were looking at HDTVs - a rep came up to us and asked if there were any questions, and my dad asked why some artifacts occurred at exactly the same time on several brands at once. The rep said that they weren't playing a BluRay or any kind of HD footage (though logos onscreen said so several times) - it was just coming from compressed video on a harddrive in the back, making comparing screens pointless. So the general sentiment you guys are posting is probably right. -
Yeah people keep saying that and I agree with them - but they just don't seem to want to. It seems to be much more profitable for them to keep digging back and pulling out old random franchises (such as kid icarus or punchout) to remake than to come up with an entirely new system - or, more often, apply new genres to franchises they already have established. Yeah though, they need some freshening up.
-
I think if it was up to him it would have ended with Super Metroid anyway (as he wanted it to be a trilogy) - so we may never have even seen the modern Metroids.
-
I'm pretty sure that Metroid Fusion was released along side Metroid Prime, and Zero Mission was released just before Prime 2 - so maybe they're just overdue for another one. But yeah you're right - Metroid isn't one of their very top franchises anymore so I think they can afford to experiment a bit. As far as what I think is most LIKELY to happen next (not what I want most) - I'd be willing to bet a Hunters 2 is in progress, what with the success of Hunters and the little hint at the end of Prime 3. Plus, since NST actually made that instead of Retro, it seems like something they'd be able to do again.

This is really different - and that means I automatically like it! Really unique implementation of drums and great guitar work. Strange time-signature is a nice bonus. Cool stuff!

I would LOVE for them to make Metroid 5 but I just don't see it happening. Fusion was a big seller but I dunno...Nintendo's new strategy just doesn't seem to allow for direct plot sequels (which really I'd say is Nintendo's biggest problem with continuing Metroid in general. Metroid just doesn't seem to fit their new image. I can only hope they don't abandon it). If it DID happen however, I would love to see Samus be a fugitive from the Federation. That would make for one of the most interesting Metroid plots as far as I'm concerned. Just so long as the gameplay is 2D and is no more simplified than Zero Mission I think it could be fantastic. (Of course, I'll get anything Metroid, even a re-release - I'm just being optimistic).

Ooh, ooh, me! You could download my album from here, and then if you like it you can buy an awesome hard copy (or whatever)! You never know until you try... Of course then again I'm not technically an "OCR Artist" either (YET) but hey, why not?

Atmospheric Music in Video Games

I will second: Beyond Good and Evil Certain Myst songs Whole Metroid series All Temple themes from Zelda games -
A wise man once said: Tier lists represent which characters are being used and winning in tournaments. As time goes on, they do tend to be revised as more of the metagame is uncovered, but all they represent is which characters are used for winning tournaments. They may or may not reflect who is a good character.

I dunno, probably! I mean it was made by Bullfrog, a new dead company somewhere in the bowels of EA. I don't know how easy it is to find anymore but I remember getting it free with an old Sound Blaster Gold card back in the day. It actually runs legitimately on comps up through win2k, but xp for whatever reason needs dosbox. No but seriously. This game is AMAZING. Tons of land-warping spells and things (like, say, make a volcano surge up and erupt on a town, or cause an earthquake or lightning storm - and then stuff like shooting fireballs, teleporting, building castles, throwing meteors, and other awesome stuff. The enemy design is really cool too, even though it's all sprites. The spell menu is still better-handled than about any game of this type I've played. Plus secret levels to find by finishing missions in alternate ways, and stuff like that! So basically, it's a sort of first-person flying/adventure game. There's lots of objectives like "fly to point", "blow up these buildings" or "find your way out" but a lot of the missions consist of "kill creatures to get mana, use mana to kill wizards, and destroy wizard's castle in time (before he respawns) to permanently kill him". It's a really addictive system. You should try to get ahold of it! I'd kill for them to make a sequel/some kind of XBLA revival or something of this game, no matter how small. Actually, I've always thought the design would fit PERFECTLY on the DS with some minor tweaking. Hell, some of those shots even kind of look like DS shots.

Amongst others, the first Wario Land for GB. Also, Magic Carpet 2: The Netherworlds for DOS: You don't even know how great this game is. Plus, it runs perfectly at 100% speed in dosbox, so I just played it through once again last year!

OCR01770 - Super Metroid "Samus Bubblebath"
Antipode replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Both your Metroid mixes are probably my favorites from the mixes of the series, my favorites of those you've made, and some of my favorites from the whole site! I love how this song manages to sound frantic, energetic and jerky while also being smooth, jazzy, and even chill. Sweet combo of lots of different moods and is complex while being simple, making it top-notch in my book. Plus, I like the spontaneous, on-the-spot kind of feel of the remixes you've done quickly. In short, AWESOME. -
SD card + Twilight Princess + wiibrew.org.

CMC - Conceptual Music Competition 23: Aqueous Nocturne
Antipode replied to Abadoss's topic in Competitions
WHY haven't I been doing CMCs? I might try this if I have some time around halloween. -
In Wii Music though I believe it's only based on speed and only on moving it up and down. If you try to actually conduct with it you do worse.
-
I think that's not so much a bug - the game does (and the final game probably will as well) have surprisingly high system requirements for what it is. Maybe yours was just having some trouble.

I want to download that zip from the first post but whenever I try it just sends me back to the download page.

Professional artists similar to OC ReMix?
Antipode replied to DarthVivi's topic in General Discussion
Let's see - could go in a few different directions. I went through my library and tried to think of some that would fit the bill, though my library isn't really massive enough to give you a lot of examples. First, maybe check out the album The First Phase by Troubleman. It doesn't have extremely pronounced melodies but it has a lot of depth and atmosphere and it has some awesome rhythms. Also consider the album Time Out of Mind by Troubleman, which is more musical but occasionally has lyrics. I'd also recommend the album The Seduction of Claude Debussy by The Art of Noise. This is a really interesting fusion of a whole bunch of different styles but it has really pronounced melodies since, while it's electronica, it's based on Debussy's piano/orchestral music. The only lyrics are occasional narration, some opera singing in a couple tracks, and one with rap. You might also want to check out some stuff by Moby. He's done tons of instrumental music (and tons with vocals but they're easy to avoid) and a lot of it has some simple melody-lines that he builds on. As far as finding music with the "OCR style", check out, say, the soundtrack to Sinistar Unleashed. Really atmospheric, catchy, instrumental music, and the tracks are lengthy. Has that kind of feel you might be looking for. As far as free domain stuff I can actually link you, maybe check out some of the music found at http://kahvi.org/ (which, by the way, is found in Overcoat's free music thread). They have mostly mood music with not a lot of melody, but some of them do - and it's all instrumental and all free. Something else you might really like is music by Malcos (he has some remixes here) found at http://malcos.co.uk/ - he has some really nice instrumental music with catchy, hip-hopish kind of beats. And, yeah, if you feel like it, click my sig and download my album Superscape, which is also free and focuses pretty strongly on melody-lines in many tracks (and is all instrumental). -
Professional artists similar to OC ReMix?
Antipode replied to DarthVivi's topic in General Discussion
You guys, I don't think he was asking for remixers who also make original electronica - I think he's asking for electronic music that has the general kind of "style" a lot of remixes have (arists similar to, not artists from). That said, it sounds like you're looking for some electronica with a strong emphasis on melody or hooks (since a lot of remixes by nature have to have those). I wouldn't be able to give you a lot of recommendations, but I can look around! I'll post some if I can think of any. -
Unfortunately no - during the development of Confrontation he asked if people would want him to make the game moddable and the answer was split. It wouldn't have mattered anyway because the mods he was considering allowing would just be to change the graphics and soundtrack and things like that if you want - not the level design.
-
NICE! Man I can't wait. I remember following this back in the old days. You should set up some kind of little development blog or something like the Metroid games have. I might be down to make some music for this, depending on how it's coming (and if you actually need someone else for a few tracks).

AHAHAHA yes, should have made the list. (Skip to 1:00 if you don't see why it's great). In all seriousness, I wouldn't have complained to see some better Metroid choices on there (better choice for Super Metroid, maybe one from Prime).
