Ginnsu Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Metal Gear 'First Impressions' Disco Dan has this very interesting piece here for us that has a really suspenseful action flick (James Bond, etc.) feel to it. Starts off with the marching band drums and leads into a deep fat bass and a 303 that carries the song right on into the melody with underlying techno drums. Might be a bit long, and repetitive but that fits the genre. Quote
Deryck Khusial Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 i can see why dan arranged this to accommodate a battle atmosphere. and the arrangement itself is great, no doubt about it. the trouble's really the sound quality. if this was re-mastered, i know it’d be a hit. as it is right now, the exceptionally catchy lead melody’s the only source of appeal Quote
Emjay Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 One of the reasons I like this remix as much as I do is because it's the sort of one that could replay as background music over and over without being annoying after some time. It's redundant, but it takes two different turns (at 1:20 and 1:43, repeating later in the song as well) with interesting choices for instruments that took a lot away from the not-as-appealing point of repetition. It's an interesting remix; in my opinion, worth a download. Quote
Disco Dan Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 Actually, it's interesting you mention sound quality. That's precisely my beef with the stuff I've got on this site. and I'm working on it... slowly. http://jonx.net/~discodan/misc/updates/ Those are just the mm3 ones for now, but when I recorded all of the songs on this site (with the exception of the mario paint one) I used my Yamaha PSR 630 for the sounds, and my guess is that as a combination of that keyboard and my soundcard's recording ability, the result ended up bass heavy, BUT the sound quality on the keyboard is pretty lo-fi compared to what's out there now, which is why I've been updating. So anyway, I WILL get around to updating the MG piece, just not right this moment. DC Quote
EndymionMMX Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 I really like it. I've got to commend you, it sounds like it came from a motion picture. I am truly inspired to write a script for a video based upon Metal Gear through Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Ofcourse...the film would be over seven hours...hmm. But I really like this song, it brings back the sounds of the days of NES. And being the MG/MGS fan that I am...mmm. Good times, good times. But really, this is enough to make a person play through the game again. Quote
Karate_Freak Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 Thoroughly enjoyed! This remix really hit the spot - it is one of my top ten! It is ironic that I never actually played the game - LOL! This techno peice really captures a mood almost reminiscent of a GI Joe movie credits intro with only one artist making all the spotlight - BRAVO! 9/10... Quote
FreedomForTheMasses Posted December 18, 2003 Posted December 18, 2003 This is an awesome mix, Anyone who loves any of the MG should dl this for sure keep these mixes alive, DL NOW! Quote
Flare4War Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 This mix was alot of fun to listen to. I'm ashamed of myself for not finding it much sooner. Another awe inspiring foot-tapping arrangment from Disco Dan. Well Done Quote
jordex Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 Wow this song is great I can just see snake sneaking up behing enemies Good work, Disco Dan! Quote
Bummer Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Nice stuff here, that I can say. The intro was cool with synth melody together with marchdrums, the dibidipi-sounds or whatever, giving the song that techno feeling. But when the new loop came, it felt kinda the one before, but luckily, in marched strings whiched made the synth way cooler. Thanks Disco Dan. So far, you haven´t let me down. Quote
OceansAndrew Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 A very steady sounding mix, it sounds like Snake is eternally sneaking. I think it would have been better if some exciting parts were added, but as is it works pretty well. It's somehow very relaxing, possibly due to it's repetitive and hypnotic qualities. Quote
Lucentas Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Disco Dan is one of those ReMixers whose stuff I have a lot of on my playlist, and for good reason. I've always found this mix perfect for when I needed to write or draw a dramatic action scene or something like it. Quote
DragonAvenger Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Very sneaky mix. While the excitement level never gets very high, the tension is always there, which holds interest. Sounds remain pretty decent after time, although it is showing it's age. Fun mix to have in the background, and a nice listen. Quote
Bahamut Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I guess I shouldn't be surprised that this is done by Disco Dan, with the beats and the more upbeat style. My feel is that the song progresses too slowly, and drags things out quite a bit unnecessarily. Some cool stuff like towards the end, but I feel like this would be a much stronger song if it was condensed more. Quote
Liontamer Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 I can hear how it's Disco Dan's style and instrumentation, though I do enjoy how it doesn't fit in the dance mold like most of his work. It'll sound like I don't like DD's typical style (when those are some of the catchiest on the site); I'd definitely love to hear more takes like this from Dan where there's an electronic overall sound, but not in the dance realm. Nice to hear another wrinkle to his game, even from way, way back. :-) Quote
