Mirby
Nintendo responds. [...]"Mario often takes the appearance of certain animals and objects in his games [...] These have included a frog, a penguin, a balloon and even a metallic version of himself. These lighthearted and whimsical transformations give Mario different abilities and make his games fun to play. The different forms Mario takes make no statement beyond the games themselves."[...]
Meteo Xavier
Who the fuck cares what PETA has to say these days anyway? They're the left-wing equivalent of Westboro and that's all they should amount to. Nintendo shouldn't have to respond to their bullshit other than to thank them for free publicity. DaMonz
I wonder when that kind of people will stop looking for things to complain about xD mario has been stomping on turtles for 30 years and peta has never said anything ^^^^ That is a BRILLIANT response ^^^^
DCT
The fact that Nintendo responded with something other than "You've GOT to be shitting me" shows they put too much thought into this. mario has been stomping on turtles for 30 years and peta has never said anything Yeah, that too. Ethan Rex
This is ridiculous. How dare Nintendo. I demand a tofu powerup that just sits around and tastes like shit.
Melbu Frahma
*facepalm* mario has been stomping on turtles for 30 years and peta has never said anything I pointed this very thing out to a friend. Apparently, turtles aren't cute enough/equal to tanookis.
Rambo
The music in their game was pretty catchy. The controls need some polishing. Plot was lacking.

Jamphibious
Fuck Peta. \m/ Yes. A friend showed me this a few days ago and I had a good laugh. PETA cracks me up sometimes. Anyone else find it funny that the tanooki in their parody flash game can get crushed or fall in a pit and die? Not very ethical if you ask me. orlouge82
Who the fuck cares what PETA has to say these days anyway? They're the left-wing equivalent of Westboro and that's all they should amount to. Not quite. PETA may be extreme in their views, but there is some semblance of a rational basis for them (i.e. a logic taken to its extreme) Westboro Baptist Church, on the other hand, is completely batshit crazy. They start with a premise that is completely illogical and without foundation in any religious text, and take it to the extreme. It's basically a bunch of ignorant bigots using religion as an excuse for hate. Also, a lot of right-wingers would take offense at the suggestion that Westboro is "right-wing" (not stated explicitly in your post, but implied). Soul Splint
This was by far my favorite part. "To help prove their point, PETA has even commissioned a crude parody video game called "Super Tanooki Skin 2D" in which players try to re-capture their skin from a flying Mario (Warning: Kind of disturbing, and totally not fun.)" Haven't played it yet, though. Any good Amphibious?
Moomba
I'm sorry what? PETA gets mad about this and then they commission THAT? They rage about Mario wearing what could be a Tanooki skin and in retaliation create a parody game in which you run around as a skinned Tanooki? I'm now more inclined to rag on PETA about promoting animal cruelty than Nintendo...

orlouge82
If there was a semblance of rational basis here, this topic I'm posting this response in wouldn't exist. The rational basis/logic is the "animal rights" platform. The topic that everyone is posting a response in is the because PETA has taken it to the extreme, which often times manifests as irrational expressions. This is analogous to a libertarian who says that there shouldn't be any criminal laws whatsoever. Rational basis = libertarianism/freedom from state interference in personal behavior Taken to extreme (and manifested as irrational) = No criminal penalties for murder, rape, etc.
Mirby
oh lmao I missed super tofu boy The best part is that he's playable in Super Meat Boy. I mean playable in the sense you can play as him. But his jumping sucks and he's hella slow.
Brushfire
No peta does not have rational views. They value animals above human life, so much that they oppose things like insulin dirived from dogs. And they also do not condemn the actions of the Animal Liberation Front. A group whom has firebombed animal testing facilities and done millions of dollars in damage to advances in medical science.

You may not see their side, but that doesn't mean that their views are not rational. The same argument you're making could be applied to pretty much anything. Abortion for instance.
