Kainchild Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Guys I just finally got an Ipod 160 gb and want to fill it up with some good video game soundtracks. Right now I am looking for shooter games but if you got any other suggestions would be cool. I am really looking for non-pop Japanese type games. Quote
Korak the Mad Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I recommend Castlevania music and remixes. So far I have a on my mp3 player with at least 300 songs, and it is still getting larger. Quote
psychowolf Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Streets of rage series perhaps? I don't know your musical interests so i wouldn't know what would suit you. One id really suggest tho is mighty switch force, I love space cuba and jive bot Quote
Garian Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 My suggestion is to make extensive use of the www.project2612.org and www.snesmusic.org archives, winamp's wave out plugin is a great way of recording the audio from games and you can then encode the .wav files to the format of your choosing-- If you don't have Advanced Busterhawk GLEYLANCER from the Genesis you're surely missing out, it's a fantastic sidescrolling shooter. Other Genny shooter suggestions I have are the iconic Zero Wing and MUSHA Alest. From the SNES archives get Axelay, Gradius 3, and the R-Type games for sure. I'm not exactly sure what "non-pop" means so I'll withhold any further suggestions for now Quote
Kainchild Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 I recommend Castlevania music and remixes. So far I have a on my mp3 player with at least 300 songs, and it is still getting larger. I have every conceivable Castlevania song there is.... Quote
ocre Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Even the audio alone takes you to a vivid world. Quote
PixelPanic Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I discovered the Sonic Heroes soundtrack is kinda hit and miss, but some of the songs are actually legitimately good rock/techno songs outside of the game. Especially any of the Ocean levels and Casino Park. Also, Sonic Adventure 2. You know you need it. Also also, Super Mario Galaxy or Halo for beautiful orchestration. Hands down. Quote
Gollgagh Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 mighty switch force just go ahead and get everything by virt ever Quote
Kainchild Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Even the audio alone takes you to a vivid world. Got all of the Crystal Chronicles songs Quote
eilios Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Dark Cloud 2. I absolutely adore the soundtrack to that game. Quote
CinnamonJihad Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Honestly I think that all music by Capcom is fantastic - Any Megaman, Megaman X, Phoenix Wright, Street Fighter etc. Castlevania is a must have for me as well. I really love a lot of Final Fantasy stuff that isn't J-pop, rather very peaceful type arrangements (try Sight of Spira, FF10 disc 1). Also, I really appreciate metal music, and I think that Daisuke Ishiwatari does some really cool music if you can get your hands on his stuff. He does the Guilty Gear/BlazBlue/Hardcorps type stuff. It's anime style gaming with a couple of poppy songs, but a lot is just hard rock. I could go on, but that will be my 2 cents for now. Quote
EC2151 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Honestly, if you're in to "weirder" stuff (or at least, the non poppy-sounding), you cannot go wrong with ZUNTATA. They made some of the best and most progressive game music back in the late 80s and 90s. Stuff like Tamaya Kawamoto's work on and RayStorm (good danceable tracks), OGR's surreal masterworks in Darius Gaiden and G-Darius, Yasuhise Watanabe's jazzy synth-work in Metal Black and (though that last one is after Zuntata broke up... oh well it still counts)...You really can't go wrong with those three. Flexstyle Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Not quite the same genre you were requesting, but these are all brilliant: Starcraft II soundtrack Return All Robots! soundtrack Bastion soundtrack To The Moon soundtrack Those are just a few of my very favorites right there. I can add a whole ton more, if needed. Quote
Unstable Hamster Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Bastion soundtrack This. So for my suggestions, I love the music from Ace Combat, it's good heavy orchestral stuff. Amazing rock? Dynasty warriors. Most are similar, but Cinnamon Jihad and I find number 7's OST to be the best. Speaking of rock, check Megaman X 6, it's style matches the notorious difficulty of the game. If you like sonic music, check Sonic Generation OST, overall it's good remixes of classic songs. Oh, and Persona 4 has some interesting ones. Quote
EC2151 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 This.Speaking of rock, check Megaman X 6, it's style matches the notorious difficulty of the game. So it's really bland and cheap? ba-zing! Quote
