hasn't been 2 weeks on this diet and I'm already fed up with it, I've never dieted before in my life, it's rough and I'm getting sick of eating the same things at the same intervals...I hope this shit pays off in the end :|

It does pay off, trust me on this one!

What exactly is it you are eating? Have you seen any results from what you've done?

I'm also interested to see what you're eating.

Very important point: nutritionist-approved doesn't necessarily mean "good." I know several nutritionists (my wife has a degree in nutrition science, for one), and ehhh... they didn't try too hard in school, and in their own time, they didn't spend much (any?) time reading the current research literature on nutrition to stay up to date as most biomedical/biochemical lectures tend to be at least a decade behind the current prevailing research. And as a member of the medical field, I'll tell you outright that almost no one reads research, probably fewer than 5% of my classmates, and these are the doctors most people rely on for nutritional information D: It's a shit-show of conjecture, assumption, and sometimes pure bullshitting, really, and it's a massive problem in the medical field.

Can't say I'd trust the average nutritionist for those reasons, but there's definitely some very, very informed ones out there. Same goes for physicians, dentists, etc. But if you're eating the same things at the same intervals and a nutritionist told you to do this, I'm going to say pretty confidently that the nutritionist is incompetent.

I'm not saying the nutritionist is good or bad, but none of us have enough information to make a worthwhile assessment of their competence.

We don't know the reasoning behind the instruction given. I know personally when I am trying to lose weight, I like having a macro-perfect diet that I eat on a schedule, because then I can plan for it and have a bunch of mini-goals. Also, for me, eating smaller meals throughout the day keeps me full and not thinking about food at all, especially if I am doing something more dramatic like a carb cycle, or eating a massive amount of paleo foods.

man, I'm trying to learn to do muscle ups, cuz I'm pretty decent at pull ups, I can do a good 15 of them in a row. But it's ridiculous. I get to the halfway point, aka where a pull up ends, and I literally can't budge an inch further. this is crazy hard.

add weight! I can do a single really ugly muscle up, and to train, you need to weight yourself up heavy and be explosive. you'll want to pull about 1.6 of your bodyweight (for me that's 90 extra lb), and then work the transition to the muscle up! Taucer could probably help you way more than I could though regarding badass gymnastic/parkour stuff.

Weighted pullups are a good idea. I'm definitely down with that. What is the best way to do that, a belt or vest? I tried putting a dumbbell in a backpack once but that was terrible.

i use a belt, im not sure if you can attach 90lb to a vest.

dumbbell in a backpack is fine for lower weight stuff, you just have to make sure it is centered, so like, not on your back. It sounds funny, but use the backpack like a weight-filled pair of shorts and put it around your legs and up in your crotch, then squeeze your legs around it so it doesn't fall. I've used this method up to 60 lb without any real issues. Maybe it sounds funny because it is ridiculous, but it can work.

what is the exact diet? Is the food no good or are you just bored? You said it was nutritionist approved, which seems fine, but what is it exactly?

espelta bread toast in the morning, a yoghurt with some mashed up seeds in it next, white meat or fish for lunch, a fresh cheese for afternoon snack, soup for dinner and to wash it all down eggplant and lemon juice. I'm just sick of eating the same things for most days, I like food and thus I like eating different things each day...this diet being my first ever is rough on me. I just hope it works.

If you want a ridiculously good book on how to reshape your diet from the ground up, you should check out "It Starts With Food." It has scientific explanations for a lot of its principles - think of it as Paleo Plus - and you can do a 30-day challenge called Whole 30. But it's not a DIET. It's not going to deprive your body of calories so that you lose weight; it changes what you're eating so that you're maximizing nutrition while minimizing sugar intake. Both my wife and I did it for 30 days, though we weren't trying to lose weight. You will feel shitty for about 5 days as your body goes through sugar withdrawal (yes, that's an actual thing) but then you WILL feel awesome and start dropping weight.

Forgot to mention, but this book arrived from Amazon a few days ago. I'm reading through it and so haven't actually started the Whole 30 yet. I can already tell it's going to be tough to handle, but I can definitely see the benefits from what I'm reading, so I'm looking forward to the challenge once I'm ready to start it.

So, I just threw on a pair of pants. They were always a bit loose, but now they feel even looser. So I threw on another pair of pants, and they are wayyy looser then I remember.

Maybe it's just me, or the fact I don't wear jeans as much anymore since when I'm not working im in pajama pants most of the day. But yeah, it seems looser.

Would anyone be awesome enough to post your top ten songs for going all beastly in the gym? OCR or non-OCR, either way. Not a favorites list, just the songs you want to have on when you're trying for that deadlift record. I'll post mine as a show of good faith; my list is getting a little stale, even a handful of new ones would be super appreciated.

So here we go, in no particular order:

1) Kraddy – Android Porn

2) OCR – Yoshi's Island – Bowzilla

3) OCR – Maverick Rising Album – X-Hunted

4) The Very Best Movie Soundtracks – Rocky Training Montage (Rock Version)

5) Breaking Benjamin – Blow Me Away

6) Metallica – Frantic

7) Daft Punk – Tron Soundtrack – Derezzed

8) The Glitch Mob – Bad Wings

9) OCR – Sonic 3 – Breaking the Ice

10) Disturbed – Stupify

Bonus: Puff Daddy – Come with Me (Godzilla Soundtrack)

Rob Zombie – Superbeast

Drowning Pool – The Man Without Fear (Daredevil Soundtrack)

GO!

Oh, wow, great! I made a convert :) I'll have to tell my wife, she'll be so proud.

Really though, it WILL be hard. For the first 5 days, you might experience what they call the "carb flu." It is literally your body going through withdrawal. Sugars are extremely addictive. Trust me - power through it and you'll feel fantastic afterwards. And unlike a "diet" this is a lifestyle - you can choose to eat that way for the rest of your life and it would not be nutritionally deficient. Most diets, on the other hand, rob your body of something necessary. Let me know how it goes!

Regarding how to weight chinups/pullups/dips, here's the product I use. Or rather, used to use before my arm got all broken 'n' stuff :( Cheap, durable, and very comfortable.

That's awesome, man! I hope you experience all the benefits of a Paleo-esque lifestyle change that myself and those I've been able to convince have enjoyed. My life can be demarcated sharply as before Paleo and after. It was that significant for me. Your mileage may vary, of course :P A lot of it is determining which foods work for you and which do not, and that process will take you beyond Paleo's limitations in some ways but preclude some Paleo foods as well. It's a fun, but long, process of self-experimentation. It's really empowering to understand how your own metabolism seems to work.

Oh, wow, great! I made a convert :)

*high five*

Thanks Halt! I'm only familiar with three of those, so I'll be sure to check the other ones out.

OA. Dude. Go to Amazon's mp3 search and type in the Rocky Remix exactly as I have it typed out in my earlier list post. It's the workout theme from Rocky IV remixed as rock. And it is every bit as badass as you think it might be. Let me know what you think. Also, Devour barely missed making it into my list, love that song too. I'll check out the others as well.

Thanks bros!

So I've noticed in the last couple weeks, my pec area has changed. It always was soft and jiggly. Not large enough to be boobs but fatty deposits still. It's heavier now, less jiggly. Looks different too, doesn't stick out quite so much. That's pretty interesting. I guess exercising is having an effect on it. I recently got a pair of rings so now I can do some good exercises there that will work the pecs.

that's awesome news! What are you going to attach the rings to? That sounds pretty sweet.

I also bought the rocky song, and it's as good as advertised; listening to it, I can already feel the gainz! I will test them by trying to knock out the first Russian I see, though that may not be for awhile, Russians are somewhat scarce in this town.

When I found that (by accident), I pulled it up and told my wife she had to hear this. So I started playing it, and you know at first it sounds just like the original. So she was like, "So what, I've heard this before (electric guitar hits) and OHHHHMAGERD."

One of many reasons why she's awesome.
