Fr0zEn-Ph0eNiX
Hmm I wonder if anyone mentioned this yet. X-death from FFV in any part of the game. I mean come on, "YOU WILL DIE IN 30 SECONDS". Thats not easy. Try beating him without mimic once. That is probably one of the most rediculasly difficult bosses ever. I also found lavos tought the first time around when i hadn't beat the game before. It tooks several tries so I suppose he's one of the tough ones. Uhm.. I dont know if anyone played bomberman 64 back in the day but that big machine that had lazers and machine guns was tought to beat. Well he wasnt that tough. But getting all the gold cards from him was a bitch. There's more but I think I'm only supposed to post 1.
KeeperS
Magma Dragoon from MegaManX4 is my nemesis. I just cannot beat this guy in less than around 10 tries, even though MegaMan bosses are ususally pretty easy for me after memorizing all they're attacks. I'm talking about the second battle, when you don't have the Ride Armor to help you.I can probably come up with harder bosses than this, but this is the only one I can think of at the moment. If you're playing as X, this battle is insanely easy with Double Cyclone. Since nobody would have a problem with that, I'm assuming you're playing with Zero, in which case it's a bit more tricky. Basically you just need to learn his moves and how to dodge them. Luck plays a small part here too. If you're REALLY having that much trouble, just fight this guy first and use a sub tank on him. You can always charge up the tank in between the boss battles, and by the time you get to Sigma, you should be full again.
Beatdown
The sphinx on Powerstone 2. Me and a friend spent 45 minutes trying to beat him on the hardest difficulty, it's just wrong. You're being shot at every second while you're under it, then you have the sphinx itself to contend with (that shoots the biggest laser known to man). That's a tantrum-inducing boss if I've ever played one. The big, black, badass ball of asskicking sideboss in FFIX. *shudders I know everone's already mentioned Sephiroth in KH but I still did him at lvl 70 with the Metal Chocobo (note: VERY CAREFULLY). And just to be an ass I'll mention the Sleeper, THE one absolute unbeatable monster of all time. I guess it doesn't really count seeing as how no one has ever killed it (or even come close) nor is it really a boss, but it kicks so much ass it's just worth mentioning. If you don't know, it's an Everquest thing. Ask around.
TheDarkSaxPlaya
i think that kefka, or sephy get coolest boss, but that's not this topic, so i think the hardest boss would have to be the ultimate slime thingy at the end of that long assed dungeon. if i remember correctly, you have to kill him in like 3 or so turns, or he runs away or sumthin lame like that. next would have to be the ultimate dragon from the same game. the one u fight if you collect its eggs or sumthin like that. with 65,565 hp, he has like the largest amount of hp a character can possibly have in an snes game. i spent hours devising strategies to kill him, so i wouldn't have to check the internet. turns out that after many frustratingly hours of devising, i came up with the same strategy as the one i compared it to online. so meh. on a different topic, the most annoying boss is definetly gotta be doom gaze from FFVI. >_< you have to fly around until you get in a fight with him, and he runs away like a pansy after like 10000 dmg. forcing yet another 5-10 minutes of random flying to find him! >_<

He is not supposed to be beaten though. Even with Locke equipped with Zephyr Capes and uber-high evade that sneeze attack is unavoidable. The King of All Kupos
Hardest Boss? Definately the Sleeper. Literally impossible, and once you fought him, he was gone on your server. That's right, after you wake him up, he never comes back. But if you're talking about bosses you can actually beat, I'd have to say Nemesis in FFX. I mean...he's just...too...hard... Oh, and on a sidenote, KH Seph's not that hard (though he's still my favorite character from any game ever). I beat him at 63 with Oblivion. You just gotta know when to glide away from him and when to let lose. And fill up on elixirs if you can't catch him before he hits you with Sin Harvest. Had a guild of 70+ lvl 60's try to raid the Sleeper. PWNED. And it DOES come back, he just has an insane repspawn time (like a month or something someone told me, but he does come back). Coppatop85
Wait, so you guys didn't kill the sleeper, correct? Anyways, There's been a lot of talk about RPG bosses... I would have to say that I have never encountered any difficulty whatsoever in RPGs in terms of bosses.... aside from the ruby weapon in FF7, and that omega weapon in ff9, but they died eventually. I had a lot of trouble with the boss from double dragon 2 on the NES.
g-dub
I haven't checked many of the other replies so this one might of been said but without a doubt Mike Tyson on Mike Tyson's Punchout on NES. You could also say Mr. Dream on just normal Punchout also on NES. I couldn't beat them even with game genie. Has anyone beat them?
Coppatop85
yeah, Mike Tyson was definatly one of the hardest bosses, someone did mention him though. I never beat him.... you have to win by decision.

I had a lot of trouble with the boss from double dragon 2 on the NES. The thing used 3-4 aoe nukes and killed 6 rogues (me included), then it starts focusing on the healers/casters. Hell no we didn't kill it! btw, the sleeper can zone after it's been awakened from what I hear... RPG bosses are easy if you can overlevel, it's the optional ones that are programmed to be totally unfair that are always the challenge. Tell the truth I had more probs with emerald than ruby. For some odd reason everyone but Cloud was dead and everytime it countered KotR with ultima it missed. Every time! Emerald was more of a pain, it did more damage and had that goddamned move that instantly kills everyone (except a lvl 100 Cid that somehow always only takes 8000-9000 damage). Oh well. DragonKain
I have to say that the only hard RPG bosses are those on something like Chono Cross where you can't just simply level up to kick ass... I'm working on a game myself that it takes longer for you to level up so you'd be more encouraged to do side quests and finding secret weapons and such to power your character over beating on the monsters (which are strong anyway) hard bosses on an RPG would be something like Olga Flow from PSO, or just annoying like Spikey on Secret of Mana but honestly, it would be something like one of the senior dragons on Dragon Seeds, where you can only train so much before your dragon just becomes too old to fight, then you've gotta have SKILL, not just whacking endless monsters hard bosses on other genre games would include Biolizzard from SA2b, Meta Ridley from Metriod Prime (holy shit! how much punishment can he take? and he's never open for a shot when he's almost dead!) hmm... what else...I know Dario is IMPOSSIBLE without going through the game the second time, poora poora Riddel... and if you want a super uber hard badass, play Star Ocean 2, goto the VERY end, save at the last save point, and go back to the first town you arrive at on the second world, talk to the girl that appears there, now the boss is so strong that you'll crap your pants! ... the only way to TRY to counter his strength is going to the old man in the arena, talking to him, going back to the first planet, and jumping on your bird to the hidden dungeon! you better not beat it until you REALLY think you're ready to (somewhere over level 250...) and make sure you pick up Ashton's triAce attack! it's a must! Oh well. This is because he had eight pieces of materia. Aire tam is materia spelled backwords. It does 1111 for every piece of materia on a character. So, yeah, instant death for anyone with >8 pieces.
Soontah
i had a hard time beating the first boss in wily's castle on the first megaman. come to think of it every boss in that castle was a bitch without using the pause-unpause method. especially when you face your clone. NOW THAT IS A BITCH!
