Shadix
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/08/aus....ap/index.html -- This isn't all though, after all these mysteriously dead birds appeared, birds have been acting odd WITHIN my town (which isn't too far away from Austin)... As if not paying attention to cars driving close to them (we almost ran one over this morning) , and another one acting weird in one of my neighbor's yard. Some of them were seemingly normal, but there were quite a few acting lethargic on the ground. Whatever it is I hope we all don't start coming down with Bird Flu. The Orichalcon
Um, "page not found". The post-shortened URL translated to the actual URL in the browser for some reason. ie: "aus....ap"
Aninymouse
Wow. Pretty odd occurance, eh? I think it's safe to say that if 60+ dead birds weren't taken out by regular old poisons and chemicals, then there's cause enough to suspect the virus. Bird Flu is treatable if you catch it early, right?
The Damned
Bird Flu hasn't caused more than two hundred deaths by most accounts. That's world wide, by the way. And that's the really bad strain of it. You're more likely to die from the regular, human flu than Bird flu.
Aninymouse
God bless wikipedia. Alright, well, chances are it's nothing to worry about then, Shadix. Unless you're a bird, perhaps.
DrumUltimA
i got regular flu and felt pretty dead i almost had to go to the hospital!
Mahaboo
Something is definitely going around though I wouldn't worry. I'm dispensing far more antibiotics and z-packs (Azithromycin) but this always seems to happen at this time of year when people are far more likely to be in close proximity to one another. Though I can't explain the birds here's to hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that it's just one of those things. Remember most illnesses cannot be transmitted from one species to another. I said most not all. Just keep your personal hygiene up to par and I think we'll live.
Trenthian
its probably just some old crazy with a bag of poisoned crumbs killing birds. whether "they" are doing it to incite panic is debatable. in other news Ill be stocking up on alkaseltzer. Mahaboo
in other news Ill be stocking up on alkaseltzer. Plop plop fizz fizz oh what a glorious post this is.Heh. I agree it's far to early to hit a panic button. All in all compared to most years most people seem to be staving off infections rather well. Most regular patients and people I know have had some form of the flu this season and its trademark seems to be that it just hangs on and doesn't seem to want to let go. Other than that it hasn't caused many problems. Compared to most other years, this thing is a sneezer.
parasoul
I had a pretty bad flu over the weekend. I don't think it was bird-related.
Bummer
Nothing protects against deceased birds like a 5 months long winter.
Raziellink
That's crazy! I've heared reports of dead birds washing up at out beaches yesterday! .... Turned out that some boat leaked soap, which the birds ate.
lazygecko
One day I was enjoying a hot dog out in the open when this little flying bastard came right up at me and snatched a piece of it. The suckers had it coming.

The Orichalcon
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21035741-2,00.html THOUSANDS of birds have fallen from the skies over Esperance and no one knows why.Is it an illness, toxins or a natural phenomenon? A string of autopsies in Perth have shed no light on the mystery. Hmm. Coincidence?

Aninymouse
Hmm. I always found the physiology of birds to be delightfully bewildering. For instance, birds are the only things completely immune to the deadly virus carried by a certain species of assassin bug that lives in South America. Maybe this is just nature's way -- payback for all the deaths by assassin bug they've dodged over the centuries.
