analoq Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 i as a remixer don't do anything more creative than Daft Punk. the music is approached in a different manner, but it is no more or less a creative process. if you think they 'overdo it' in regards to sampling, that may be a reasonable criticism... but to say it's not creative or artistic is merely bigotry. cheers. Right on! I never quite agreed with the whole "Remix < ReMix" thing. Quote
zircon Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 WOW that "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" remix is the SHIT. That is just straight up good music. Quote
Hum4n After All Posted October 19, 2007 Author Posted October 19, 2007 9 more days until I see them at VEGOOSE. Anybody else going? Quote
Brushfire Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Will there be a stop in Japan. I would be ever so pissed if there wasn't. Quote

Palpable Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 I was so bummed there weren't any shows near DC. I almost thought about driving up to NY for a day to see them (and the Rapture). Hope you all that managed to see them had fun. I too saw that video Zircon posted a while ago and it was a little sad but not that surprising. All their songs sound like samples - somewhere in my mind, I knew they were ripping off old songs wholesale, but I had never heard those songs before then. Ultimately, I decided it didn't matter. To me, what their strength is, is knowing just how far to push a sample before it becomes too much. They use enough change-ups to keep it interesting and some of their beats I could listen to for hours. Quote
Hum4n After All Posted October 20, 2007 Author Posted October 20, 2007 ^Nice sig. Yours is pretty good too. Where did ya find it? I've never seen that one on the web before. Quote
Broken Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 WOW that "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" remix is the SHIT. That is just straight up good music. Of which remix do you speak, sir? Quote
Dhsu Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Probably the one me and ifirit posted. Edit: Or the Summer Sonic 06 version. That one's amazing too. Edit2: Or Lollapalooza. Man, those guys can get serious mileage out of that song. Quote
JH Sounds Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Yours is pretty good too.Where did ya find it? I've never seen that one on the web before. It's from an issue of Mixmag. ...and I assume Zircon was talking about the live remix included in a preview in the Alive 2007 site I linked to, which is also the same one Chaos just put up. Quote
Dhsu Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Hm, sounds the same as the one they played at BANG. Quote
ILLiterate Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 I just realized that I am awesomely happy, because the Daft Punk shirt that I bought is the design being used for the cover Ballin as fuck Quote
ILLiterate Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 The concert in Berkeley, one of the designs was that, others wher just the words DAFT PUNK in their huge way with different colors Quote
Hy Bound Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I found out about the Red Rocks showing about an hour before it started, so needless to say I was pissed about missing it. However, I know where zircon is coming from; I lost a lot of respect when I found out that they had pretty completely ripped off several songs and only make minor changes and switch-ups. That isn't to say I don't still enjoy the music they make. They're live shows have really made me gain MUCH respect for them, however, since they're basically sampling most of their own music and making it into an absolutely awesome show. I would have to say the only artist I actually think is quite genius in his use of samples is Amon Tobin. 99.9% of his stuff is so mangled and transformed into something much different than the original that it is quite enjoyable. When you do actually hear something familiar, its more like an "oh hey! thats what it is..." than "yeah, we get it, its that one loop from a song over and over again" from some of Daft Punk's songs. Quote
Zombie Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I agree with Hy Bound about the whole sample thing. The music Daft Punk makes may borrow those samples, but it still is good music... and its not like they use samples for every song. Quote
Hum4n After All Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 DAFT PUNK was unfuckickingbelievable! Quote
JH Sounds Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 DAFT PUNK was unfuckickingbelievable! How could it not have been? BTW, what's that thingy under your sig? Quote
Hum4n After All Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 It's a Daft Punk fan thingy. Quote
JH Sounds Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Well, I've got the thingy in my sig now. So, did anything distinctive happen at that Vegas show? Quote
