Ginnsu Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Chrono Trigger 'The Mellow Corridor' Besides the fact that this is just a different take on a song that I feel we have heard too many times already, it is an excellent piece of work. I'd also have to say that this isn't the best version I've heard of this song. But no matter, the drum beat and bass beat are especially alluring to my tastes. Excellent work The Graceful Failure, keep it up. Quote
Emjay Posted October 12, 2002 Posted October 12, 2002 This definately isn't a bad remix, especially having to get over the hurdle of getting the judge's votes on something that's been so frequently remixed in the past. It does have a subtle "mellow" vibe to it, but at parts it could've been softened up a bit to stick closer to its title. djprezel's said it before, but I'm gonna redirect the same advice to The Graceful Failure...it's a nicely done remix, and I think it'd be great if you redirected your talent to less-covered songs/titles. Although, of course I encourage you to do what you enjoy of course, whether it be sticking with some of the more popular material or not. Quote
maplejet Posted December 8, 2003 Posted December 8, 2003 This song has a good beat and some decent instrumentation. But IMO, this isn't the best remix of Time Circuits/Zeal here. Still, not that bad of a start for a newcomer. But I think The Graceful Failure should change his name to The Graceful Success. Quote

Air Man Posted December 31, 2003 Posted December 31, 2003 I don't feel that this remix adds anything to the original song. It sounds like something that was pulled from an old Mega Man game. I'd actually rather listen to the original. Quote
fetusboy Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Bass is too loud...plus yeah, it adds nothing to the original, just syncopation and new electric instruments. Quote
Bummer Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 It´s a good remix, you got the mellow feeling alright, but the whole mix is just the original being placed with techno instruments. Not necessarily a bad thing, but compared to the ridiculously many other Zeal remixes, this is just another one. BUT!..if you do something hardly touched, I would be proud to be there, because the remixing of this song is not bad. Quote
OceansAndrew Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Repetitive with a few serious EQ issues, mainly the ultra piercing synth that comes in when the bass drops out for a section. Ouch. ;_; There are some cool arrangement ideas that keep it fresh throughout, like the bass-heavy breakdown, but nothing really new is added to the mix, just sections that feature specific elements of the song. It's pretty easy to see why this song is mixed so often, but I'm not sure this mix really lives up to the original. Quote
DragonAvenger Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Nothing crazy happening to the mix, but it holds true to the name in that effect. I'm not really wowed, but I'm not hating it either. Just a different take on an oft-remixed theme. Quote
Evil_Cronos Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 One of my favourite remixes of this particular source. It has already been mentioned but the song has too much of a bass level. I recall quite a few years ago when I had to take the bus downtown to get to school and this song was something I listened to everyday for about three months, along with a few other remixes. I remember having to shut off the bass boost function on my old portable cd player because the bass had noise when it played. Overall a very good mix. Quote
Bahamut Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I definitely wasn't a fan of this mix - for the most part, it just rides on the strength of the original melody without changing things terribly much. It just rubs off like an almost-midi rip with a few alterations, which doesn't strike me as terribly inspiring. Quote
42 Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Initially this feels very... twinkly. Those background synths feel really repetitive, especially late in the song. I really feel this chains down the melody and makes it very narrow and not to interesting to listen to. And the more I listen to this, the more I realize there is very little variation in this mix; there's really only the main melody repeated about twice and a background layer of synths. In the end, I guess it's ai'ite, but I don't really recommend it. Quote
Rexy Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 As with these elder arrangements, I'll try and go easy on this. It starts out promising with the nice bell chimes, though by the time the rest of the instrumentation comes in it to me feels rather uncomfortable to listen to; I can't help but notice some clipping in my left speaker in particular, as well as some very minimal sound processing other than the bell chime and rhythm synth's echo and some awkward mixing in general (particularly with the bass being too loud and the drums being too quiet). Hence, to me the production feels really painful even for 2002. Credit where credit is due for the arrangement though - the mix mostly plays around with the chords for the B section of the source and uses it all the way through even with the melody for the A section, and with some light shakeup in the bells every now and again it's most likely not too bad. But for me, I'm going to find it hard to see past the awkward production to really appreciate this one much. I also feel sad that you didn't take the experience to heart and followed it up either - making remixes is a learning curve, and I had hoped that you'd be able to take the feedback and improve considerably Quote

I've learned a lot and have not stopped producing although I really do it more for my own love of creating music than anything. I do appreciate the concern and honesty. It's cool to read all of this feedback 10 years after the fact! Quote
