zircon
Been awhile since I've posted anything... I was messing around last night after listening to copious amounts of Pendulum (including their latest single "Granite") and I came up with this basic downtempo beat. Today, I managed to create a nice bass, distorted bass, and ultimately ended up with a little clip that was definitely a big nod to Pendulum's style - from the synths to the drums. As I tried out some chords on top I ended up with a familiar progression. Here's what I came up with, after further tweaking (and excessive mixing/mastering.) www.soundtempest.net/n-FLASH.mp3 Not much yet, but enjoy! avaris
Haha nice the source and style really make a nice blend. IMO I really abrasive in your face lead would sound awesome during a breakout section for this. Lookin forward to the update!
HoboKa
Very nice Zirc, got some major phat synths going on. I don't think I'm qualified to really critique, so I'll just say it's real good , can't wait to hear it fully produced.
case
Definitely looking forward to the full version! I concur with avaris as well, a full-on audio assault is in order!!!
HoboKa
Definitely looking forward to the full version! I concur with avaris as well, a full-on audio assault is in order!!! amen to that! One of these days when I get good, I'm gonna collab with Zirc >:- D
Sole Signal
Haha I was also inspired to try something in Pendulum style after hearing that Granite single, like it seems that you were here. As for the mix; great start, definitely will be keeping an eye on this one.
ellywu2
very nice! beef that bass up and get that snare pumping though
Tensei
amen to that! One of these days when I get good, I'm gonna collab with Zirc >:- D Oh, HoboKa, who WON't you collab with? Anyway, this is sounding very nice, I dig the surf-style drum rhythm when things pick up. I don't think I'm really qualified to make suggestions here, so I'll just say keep it up! HoboKa
probably you, cuz u smell. Lol jk
Robotaki
you've got really good contrast between sections already (in rhythms, the tone of the synths, and harmonies) I sincerely hope you can keep these sorts of contrasts consistent throughout the piece because it'll hold our interest. For me, a heavily filtered and processed (FX-ilicious) drum section with a simple melody over top is a must. Awesome stuff zirc.
zircon
Updated a bit, also was updated within the first 24 hours or so.
avaris
Haha loving the intro. Great way to bring some fresh ideas into a DnB. My only beef is at :49, it felt like the entire song just droppped out. That section would be a great breakdown later in the song though IMO. Dafydd
Zircon does mm2? This definitely caught my eye. So far, the second half of it doesn't sound all that interesting, especially when the synths just come in. Even though it sounds better than it would have if most people had attempted the same thing, it's nowhere near your best stuff. I'm looking forward to hearing the final version of this though. Beoulve
This is so cool! Can't wait for the next update!
Tensei
Oh god yes, orchestral intro kicks ass. I do have a very minor gripe though: the extremely fast hi-hat seems to come in at a rather unusual moment; I'd either have it fade-in (which would work better as a build-up) or just wait until you 'drop the beat' to bring it in. The rest is absolutely stunning though.
Sole Signal
The intro through :37 sounds great/amazing, but :38 sounds almost anti-climatic after the epic intro. Maybe consider going directly into the dnb beat drop there and save the big beat stuff for a breakdown? I dunno, what you've got now definitely sounds good; maybe I'm just nitpicking. AMT
This is awesome; my only complaint is that it ended. Keep up the good work!
zircon
Updated. The orch to main beat transition should be a bit more cohesive now.. I'm not 100% on it yet, but this is more in the direction I want.
Sole Signal
I like this version much more. What guitar samples are those btw?
zircon
Bela D Media's Lyrical Distortion partially amped through Guitar Rig 2. Hoping to get Sixto or Fishy to hook it up with the real thing though. Thanks for the comments, still working on this.
ellywu2
:37 onwards is so Blood Sugar. I love it. My only advice would be to really beef the hell out of the two step at 1:20. Lets hear a *massive* snare and kick.
The Derrit
This is the excellence. My only comment is that around 1:20, when the synth takes the lead and the square gets quieter, the square hit almost gets too quiet. i had to strain to hear it, which was too bad because i loved what it was doing, so maybe just bump up the volume in that section so we can hear it better? CC Ricers
Pendulum, eh? I hear the Pendulum influence well with the snares and the claps, all right. Beginning is so "Slam", but I also want to hear more of that orchestra later on. Ever heard their Battle Royale remix of "Hold Your Colour"? Something like that. This reminds me...are you gonna do an extended version of Depth Charge? I pretty much like the ambient parts of that song.
DJ-Arthur
Ah! Definitly a good mix for the Flash is being born here!... I'm not gonna tell you my suggestions though, since First of all, You do this stuff a lot better that me, and second, I'm somewhat of a fan of most of your works haha... And this is not realy my Genre, if it is any that is... Style is definitly unique though, it really "pounds my speakers" Looking forward to the result
zircon
Thanks for the comments guys! Ellywu; I dunno what you're monitoring on but the kick and snare are already pretty enormous on mine.. hard to get them any louder, considering I've already used sidechaining as well as multiband compression. Derrit; Yeah, I might boost the square a bit, though the focus of that part is supposed to be the synth lead. JustChris; haven't heard that remix in particular, though I know the original. I might bring back the orch later, we'll see. It's very RAM intensive generally speaking. I haven't actually added anything more to this but I'd like to soon!
