With the deadline over, and assuming that there won't be an extension and voting rules are the same as usual, I already voted. Probably the fastest vote ever.1 point -

You could do what we did at the end of one of the Mega Man compos and collaborate on one single remix to close things out. Make it so that Simon and Dracula are locked in an endless battle for all eternity.1 point -

Simon and Dracula both limp into battle? Sounds funny. I have a lot of other stuff to get done deadlinewise, but I will make an effort to get something, as lame as it may sound to me.1 point -

The site works again (probably it was just a local problem since Brandon was able to post 11 hours ago). This will be a good round, five songs already. Another milestone is coming up, this time for Compo ThaSauce: submission #10.000. There are not exactly 10.000 songs posted or downloadable since edited / deleted files also count (i.e. when someone posts a mix, reworks it later and resubmits). My submission was #9.800, Supercoolmike's submission was #9.801. Messire Cookie's mix was #9.742... Which remixer and which contest will have the 10.000 submission (my guess is OHC or 2HTS)? Of course it will take some weeks. If it's a PRC song, I'll give that song a bonus point. I might do a statistical analysis when the moment is there.1 point -
OCR03333 - Threes "Reactive"

I am in love with the way this track sounds. I don't know the source at all, but the holistic soundscape is so well put together, it's really a wonder to listen to. The 1:45 section is a really neat break, but man, the choice of instrumentation and mixing just grab your attention. Again, I can't believe how well this all fits together. It's like someone was given a box full of chiptunes, Sonic the Hedgehog II struts and DBZ-style joins and built a temple, where sacrifices were made to the old audio gods. And they were pleased. Really impressive.1 point -
I concur, the levels are breaking this. The arrangement is fun, and the progression makes sense and has a cool flow, but the levels being all over the place are holding it back. The overall volume should be revised, make sure there is no distortion caused by things being too loud. You should also try to obtain a better balance by reviewing the levels of each track. To do this, I recommend prioritizing each track, muting them all, and then unmuting them one by one following your priorities. Adjust the volume for each track you unmute as you go to try and put everything in its rightful place. When this is done, you should fine-tune the frequency usage of every track by EQ'ing them appropriately, which should help build a cleaner soundscape. This has good potential, please keep at it! Oh gosh... how long has it been? Almost two months? Yikes... Sorry all for the break of contact and activity. School got in the way, but luckily, that shouldn't happen for the rest of the year (yay graduation!). And, as a new part of this project (half to keep me on track), I'm going to create a timeline, from now to release, and hopefully, we'll be able to make it. ...What, you were expecting the timeline in this post? Heck no! I've got a lot of things to try and put together in my head, and that's going to take a bit of time. However, I will let you know that my target release will be this October...ish. That gives us about 4 months to pull everything back in and get it polished, 1 month to master everything together, and 1 to release. No problem...right? Now, let me get on that timeline.1 point -
Real time printing vs. offline bouncing
Flexstyle reacted to SnappleMan for a topic
The thing is that you have to make sure your system is running smoothly as a whole so you don't get offline bouncing issues. Cubase is very good about it and there are very few issues with Kontakt if you are not maxing out your CPU meter. It comes down to how the DAW utilizes the CPU during the export process, Cubase usually takes a minute longer than Reaper does, but I get way more issues with Reaper so I have to re-render often. If you hit F12 in Cubase you will get the VST Real Time Performance and CPU meter, there are two bars here, the top bar is the CPU meter that shows you how well your CPU is handling the load overall, the second bar is the Real Time Performance bar which shows how efficiently the entire system is running. If your CPU meter is maxing out then you simply cannot run that project well, and you can get export/bounce problems both real time and offline because offline bouncing depends almost entirely on your CPU (and offline bouncing will take a lot longer). If the real time performance meter is maxing out or being erratic while the CPU meter is relatively low (CPU anywhere between 10-70%) it means that your OS is managing too many things (resource allocation for drivers, LAN, wifi, all kinds of programs) and the CPU has to handle too many other tasks before it can return to Cubase to process the audio. This is where the sample buffer comes in, if you increase the buffer size you let the CPU handle bigger chunks of Cubase's audio data, which gives you better real time performance, but at the cost of higher latency. Offline bouncing is fast because Cubase doesn't need to play the project back to you in real time, it can send huge chunks of the project to the CPU for processing and then wait to send more chunks as the CPU becomes available again, making it much faster than real time, so the real time peaks don't matter. So the general rule is, if your CPU meter is OK, then you can do offline bouncing 99% of the time without issues regardless of the real time meter. If your real time performance meter is spiking then increase your buffer size and be careful about doing real time export, and make sure to double check that everything exported properly. The best way to handle external instruments has always been to record them into the project individually, and in the case with Kontakt and other AWFUL samplers like PLAY you can do the new "Bounce In Place" feature in Cubase 8 that does a fast spot bounce of that particular track (in virtually any output configuration you want, it's very very powerful), so that way you convert those MIDI/instrument tracks into Audio tracks automatically and your offline bounce process doesn't need to worry about it and can go quickly and smoothly.1 point -

This mix is next-level stuff from Joe. I've been trying to pick out some personal highlights but honestly there are too many to narrow it down to just one - the didgeridoo, the complex ethnic drum patterns, the heavily-rhythmic flute performance, and the eerie reharmonization of the Omen theme at 3:20 are just a few notable moments. And that's not even touching on the voice acting and effects processing, which is fantastically integrated. The complete dropout of all effects at the "I will destroy it with my own hands" line gives me chills every time. I don't think I'm out of line in saying that this is one of Joe's best pieces to date. YES1 point
