  1. In case you haven't noticed, Titan Quest got a massive update for its ten-year anniversary. It includes not only widescreen resolution support (and proper scaling for it -- it looks good!) but Steam-based multiplayer -- no more fiddling around with Gamespy or whatever. It's also quite possibly the longest set of patch notes that I have ever seen. Most importantly, if you owned any edition of the game on Steam, you get a free upgrade and already have it in your library waiting to be installed. If you missed out on the fun, or on the various bundles over the years that have had it, it's only $5 for a week, and it will be $5 well spent. I recommend it especially for those folks who are burned out of Diablo 3, given that we're looking at no new content from Blizzard for the second season in a row.

  2. Been a long time since I picked up an N64 controller, but memories of this game come through very clearly. Link was always my favorite, but few could defeat me with the 'Chu. I think glasfen has said pretty much everything I would say on this. The only thing I would add it that it doesn't sound mixed quite right - I want to say compression, but I don't know my terminology enough to advise you properly here. Perhaps someone like timaeus222 or Rozovian could give you better advice here. I always find it interesting when someone can take a short loop and turn it into a full remix. This sounds great!

  3. Welcome to ocr. Just about any decent DAW will have VST/VSTi support, so you'll be able to run the vast majority of plugins with that. There are lots of good free plugins, so starting with REAPER's unlimited demo and getting used to its workflow can be done without spending any money at all. Komplete is excellent. I have a previous Komplete, and use something from there in just about every track I make. With my style of music, it's mostly FM8 and Battery, but for something fitting your jrpg-style intentions, I'd probably be using Kontakt a lot. I tried to figure out what exactly K11S contains, especially the Kontakt instruments, but can't find a page explicitly listing them. You get the "Factory Selection" with it, whatever that means. If it doesn't seem like you're getting the stuff you need from K11S, consider the standard K11. Also consider options from other developers, eg IK Multimedia and Magix. I use their stuff from time to time. But third-party libraries overwhelmingly focus on Kontakt, so if you're looking to expand your library later, Kontakt gives you a lot more options. You say you're not interested in big orchestra, but you want to make FF/CT style music. You do realize a lot of that music is orchestral, right? When it comes to the synth stuff, K11S should be fine, and there are plenty of good, free synth options available too.

  4. Thanks for the feedback! This song hasn't been updated since it was released on Soundcloud. As far as the "low health" sample goes, I've worked it out a little last week... that's still a WIP tho. I'm glad you enjoyed the transitions and the choice of samples! @ 1:30 there's aLttP sword spin & LoZ Boss scream on a very low pitch/stretch... not sure there's any choir there. (I think the layers are GB Triangle 2 & NES Pulse 50% for that specific part along with the two samples... I'd have to check my file to be sure.) Expanding the tracks comes to a cost. I could totally re-add the Game Over theme at the end... but I'm not quite there yet. And as far as duration goes... I don't really decide how long my tracks/remixes are, I just go with the flow. I'm sorry if it's too short... I can't really help it. Again, thank you for your precious feed back! It's highly appreciated!

  5. Solid start. Very different vibe than the original, which is always refreshing. The source is simple and repetitive, which makes originality difficult. I would recommend some drops, bends, solos, or a bridge and/or key change to keep things fresh. Adding one or two more SFX would be cool, especially if used (sparingly) in one of these change-ups. There's a lot of room for play here. Great source material. Definitely overlooked, as you noted.

  6. I heartily recommend checking out the My So Called 8-Bit Life podcast episode. Great talk, I personally took great pleasure from hearing about trackers and BBSs, the really oldschool stuff since that was definitely a big part of my nerdy youth too. But also great bits about composer response to American Album, plus I really appreciated hearing about difficulties when writing the American Pixels (time/motivation etc).
