Make sure that the song is uploaded to ThaSauce or that there’s a download link posted in this thread. (extended with 2*2 days). Of course you can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread. To participate it is enough to only remix one of the sources, as written in the 'Multiple Source Rounds' description at the rules site. This time (since the first source hasn't a MIDI file), a bonus of three points is given when the first source is remixed, or when both sources are remixed in one song. Remixing only the second source is enough to enter, but not for the three point bonus. To get the bonus, the first source must be recognizable in the source. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score. The winner of this round may select the source for PRC372, the round after next round. The winner of PRC370 who picked these sources, AxLR, can only participate by submitting a Bonus Mix. His vote is doubled in the voting stage. You can find the full rules list at this page as well. GOOD LUCK! PRC ThaSauce Home Page!

  3. He's in good health and spirits as we've gathered from social media, but I might actually suggest staying away from his social media stuff if you're a big fan like I am/was. When I was friends with him on Facebook, I kept seeing him pick apart Roland for their Cloud service pretty much every time they made a post for while (I counted like 6 times he did this), bordering on irate trolling, and he has a habit of making paranoid posts about technology spying on him that's kinda jarring to see. He once made a post questioning Facebook's algorithm for posts and ads targetting certain things about him, I tried to assure him it's not quite what he thinks it is (and gently, I swear), and he subsequently accused me on being on Facebook's payroll to dissuade his thoughts on it in a pretty rant-y way. Months after that, he posted some paranoia about Amazon's Alexa spying on him for marketing purposes and, again, I tried to assure him that that technology really isn't supposed to do that - and boy did he get angry. Needless to say, I'm not friends with him on Facebook anymore and lost quite a bit of respect for him to the point where I don't feel bad telling this story. Sorry to derail the thread from appreciation to this, but while I report he's in good physical health, I do suggest staying away from his social media if you want to retain appreciation for him. He seems to not be able to appreciate some of his own fans when they try to help make sure he's not having an episode of something. :S

  4. DK Island Swing is a classic of his for sure. I thought he was still at Rare, but that's Robin Beanland. Some of his Battletoads work are amazing, especially the lesser known games. Battletoads Arcade: Stage 4 (can feel some DK vibes in there) and Stage 3 Battletoads Gameboy: Stage 2, Stage 4, Stage 7

  5. I think I'll participate in this compo, and this is a pretty classic tune. Remember finally getting this on virtual console and being stoked.

  6. Can we talk about how how happy I am right now?! I thought it would get rejected to be honest (almost did actually)...but here it is on OCR, and I'm screaming in happiness! Definitely gonna try to make a new remix. And hopefully I do a lot better. Thank you everyone! And djpretzel' s comments had me rolling lol.

  7. The first 10 seconds of the opening definitely wasn't promising, as the plucked string "performance" sounded clunky, but the rest of the track was fine. Samey vibrato and string humanization issues were definitely noteworthy to call out, and those criticized aspects should be improved, but it wasn't below the bar for me. I didn't have the issue the others were having about parts fighting to be heard in the same space, and the interplay between the parts from 1:50-3:08 was fine to me; there wasn't any point where I felt the song got directionless or that I didn't immediately or quickly latch onto what the dominant instrumental line was. I would have liked to have heard more melodic interpretation, but the genre adaptation and additive part-writing were enough to carry the overall interpretation factor. It's solid to me, and while I wouldn't mind some touch-ups after the fact, the track's executed well enough to me. YES
