  1. all right, I submitted my wip since you guys still wanted it. It's not much but it was the only idea that went as far as it did. sorry for the letdown.

  2. Oh no! That's a bummer! I'd encourage you to still turn something in please. Believe me, I'm right there with ya: it's literally been 3 years since I've made any music so this round was a struggle for me too. My song isn't very long either, so even if you only submit a WIP, it's still better than nothing!

  3. I just submitted my song. Didn't get to spend nearly as much time on it as I'd like to have, but it's not too shabby Best of luck to everyone else!

  4. Eh, it happens to the best of us; I've had one or two submissions to these things where I only had about 50 seconds of music finished. One week to make a mix can be a brutal limitation, and it's one hell of a hardcore way to get back into arranging music off a coldspell of 3+ years.

  6. Looks like I'm not the only one who didn't do anything musical last 3 years. And my track also short and silly. Submit your wip Supercoolmike!

  7. I think (because this is how it was for me), they're useful to a point where problems with the music is more objective and agreeable by everyone. Once stuff gets subjective (which is a lot earlier than people would think), the feedback might continue contributing to shaping how the person writes and produces, but isn't at all necessary for that person to keep improving. Like you said people who have the drive for this stuff will keep going, and I particularly relate to not coming to WIP forums anymore and just bouncing tracks at a few peers instead. When I do it, it's more one-sided. I'm not asking what's wrong with the track or what I should fix, but rather I'm gauging the reaction of a person who isn't already familiar with it just as a fresh set of ears. Just if they might say something like "this ____ part feels like _____ ". I might've clearly perceived that and been fine with that in my taste, but it comes down to how listeners will react to it, so I'll try to compromise a little. It's like when a game dev polls about a control scheme or something. The dev might be perfectly fine with it, and it's not just that they created it, because it really does just work for them, but they just want to make sure other people can enjoy it too, so they send out a survey. Even my most skilled peers, I'll send stuff to them and on rare occasions they're like "wow this sounds really good", but I'll come back to the stuff a year later and I can still clearly perceive that I've been improving and I can see flaws in the sound I used to have. And those flaws are subjective to my own taste, because it's been shown other people with experienced tastes still enjoy them. My improvement, personally, is pretty self-driven at this point. I don't think a lot of friends really share much of my influences at this point, and I chase production techniques I don't see my friends doing. I think at a certain point you can absolutely trust yourself to be your own critic (without causing self-esteem issues or creative paralysis).

  8. Welp, congrats to @Starphoenix, you deserve that win, your remix was really good ! Concerning votes, I'd like to add some precisions : HoboKa: sorry I totally forgot to comment your bonus entry, It was good but it desynchronises with the rythm and that makes my OCD's scream a lot. evktalo : Your remix reminded me of this xD Nice work, would very much like to hear the final music x) And now, to respond to some votes : HoboKa : Didn't play the game (Still got your joke tho xD ), while listening to the music without context, I felt like it was more uplifting than sad. Which lead me to trap because it would give more energy to that ambiance. Starphoenix : Didn't notice distortion, maybe it was caused by my drums. Dex : Yup, Didn't feel like adding more layers would do good so I focused on what I had instead. And there you go, that was a fun round, hope that PRC keeps that spirit onwards! I'm looking forward for next rounds !

  9. IT LIVES! Completely forgot to write here about it! So this is a quick note to let people know that I've taken over this project a few months ago, that I've salvaged as much as I could from the previous attempts, that I've scoped it down to much fewer tracks, and that we're shooting to have all tracks finished by the end of next month. Things are looking great so far, and you can be quite certain that this project is going to see the light of day, albeit as a shorter, more compact cute little package.

  10. sorry for the disappointment, but I think i gotta forfeit on this one. Came into this hoping I would get out of my funk and I just never did, I restarted so many times and I just didn't like any of my attempts... I have just been creatively shocked for this year so far, even just attempting to make some original tracks never goes longer than a minute. Think I just lost all my motivation or something, honestly don't know what to do anymore to get fully back on the creative saddle..
