  1. Bullarkey. You try being hired to do 18 CDs worth of music a year nonstop and make each of those 900 tracks memorable.
  2. Whoa whoa whoa whoa. Why the hell would you fire Motoi Sakuraba? He is the closest thing to an actual living deity of music on Earth and replacing him would be the acme of foolishness.
  3. I just study the hell out of the general genre, and if that fails, do what I always do and try to make it awesome all the same. If it's good, people won't care that it doesn't fit the genre standards.
  4. I also endorse this album, and not just because I have a remix on it... because I don't! Let this album kick your ass today and support Ben Briggs at MAGfest!
  5. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/chris-bogia/wreck-it-ralph_b_2220403.html?utm_hp_ref=entertainment&ir=Entertainment. I've not actually seen this movie, but I have to wonder, if true, why this is the first time I've seen anything on it from anyone, and why quite outspoken Sarah Silverman and lesbian Jane Lynch continued to record for it.
  6. I'm already doing that - what does that have to do with whether or not I can have highly melody-driven content in commercial EDM? My question is on composition, not music direction.
  7. Not for a living, but you'd have one kickass sidegig going.
  8. Would you like to see my b**** and then determine if they need to grow still? (The answer you're looking for is NO) I've put $4,000 and 10 years of life into this venture - I didn't invest that much to quit now. Why would I even quit? I just wanted to know if I can still do highly melody-driven songs in contemporary electronica genres. What does that have to do with being a corporate whore or not? I already did 3 albums the way I wanted to and only one of them actually went anywhere (thanks mostly to the good graces of OCR). Maybe some pretentious artists can claim they don't need listeners to make their music ventures worthwhile, but I'm too honest for that. I would like a fanbase of my own. Doesn't have to be a huge one, but I would like that the things I create become significant for others. Whores don't put out creativity, they just put out.
  9. Because it's technically stealing. I support emulation to its highest degree, but I had to point that out as a compulsive quasi-ethical practice.
  10. When you say "beat" do you mean JUST the beat or does it have to be an entire production with accompaniment and such?
  11. Just wanted to take a moment to express how much I appreciate ocremix's music forums compared to KVR. I asked the same basic question there and all the responses are "DERP TYPO LOL!" "Hey, let's focus on a different part of your post that has nothing to do with your question and leave your question unanswered instead." Same thing every time I post a question on KVR. KVR fucking sucks. OCR fucking rules!
  12. I was at Walmart yesterday and saw boxes of Wiis out in the center aisle in front of electronics for $80-$89. I forget which exactly, but I know it started with an 8. Cheapest I'd ever seen it.
  13. I've been sort of experimenting with that as well and its been mixed so far at best. It's so bare that I can't figure out what people get out of it, and thus I am unable to proceed. What I'd REALLY like to produce is pretty much represented by East New Sound is these videos: That's a lot closer to what I could do than most other EDM, but I run the risk of listeners dismissing it or being disinterested because it doesn't sound enough like what they actually want. I'm just trying not to repeat what happened during the first run of my ESPERS album when I did it my way and no one would touch it because it was either "too new age" or "too ambient", or not enough of either (this was especially bad when trying to send it out for review). Music takes me a long time to do, and I'm tired of spending my time and resources doing music no one wants to listen to.
  14. Ok, so nobody ever really answered my first question and it's one that's rather pressing for me, so I'm going to try it again. One of my biggest problems in doing EDM, and most styles that aren't videogame oriented, is that my music style revolves so much around melody and moving (often dramatic) chords that I almost can't do anything that doesn't focus on melodic content. Most EDM I hear features next to no melody and focuses almost entirely on production and accompaniment. My rather awkwardly phrased question is: how much melody can I get away with in commercial EDM? I've heard from at least several people that say melodic electronica is actually some of the most popular, but there is still a lot of popular tracks out there that are so repetitive that I literally get lost in their tracks (and not in a good way). I get lost in my own compositions trying to recreate it and it almost never works. I don't want to turn off listeners who might think "eh, it just sounds like videogame music, off", but I can't figure out why people are drawn to unmelodic tracks in the first place. Can anyone help me out here? How does this work?
  15. What are you talking about? He was with you through the Kaipo cave, Mt. Ordeals, the siege on Baron, the trip through the Dark Elf's cave and the Tower of Zot. He helped you kill Octomamm, Scarmiglone, Baigan, Kainazzo, the Dark Elf, The Magus Sisters, and even took on Golbez by himself. How is that barely in your party? /offtopicffivfanboyrant
  16. Some people actually gave money to this shit. **sus, we're in a global financial crisis, too many of my generation are still out of work and vastly underpaid, and gamers are still giving $50-$250 a pop for things that aren't even finished yet and may just as easily get burnt out. I've been quite an annoying critic of Kickstarter for a little while now, but I do have genuine concerns of what precedents things like this are setting before us.
  17. KICK ASS We just made a brickload of progress in not too much time . I think that brings us up to about 55 finished tracks.
  18. I've found that 95% of all musicians who are asked about genre always answer with "I don't limit myself to genre" or something similar. Well, I'm going to be a rebel and fully admit I largely only do two genres: Prog (and not prog-rock or prog-metal) and Ambient/Whatever. This, however, is being worked to remedy. I'm trying to learn dance music and FM chiptune funk.
  19. I have the WAV and it should be in your email too. If not, I'll send you a link to it. Go ahead and blue it.
  20. We can BLUE Beckett007 and ilp0's tracks, they sent in their consent and that's two more tracks complete.
  21. After several mistarts on my part, I really am available to get back to work on getting stuff done. Still working with Usa's track, we're getting some additional guitar stuff done on it. I need to do a new version of Karth's piano track as I can't find the most recent one I did (and it could stand some more fixing up anyway), I need to get some other stuff ready for later this month, and I need to get caught up with our artwork and what we're doing for some of the teaser media, because no one's told me anything yet. I'm also going to be getting caught up with people who are missing .WAVs we could use and I'm going to be an irritating asshole about it. That's my job. Projects don't get done without someone pushing for it and you signed up for that when you joined this project and made a near-finished track with it. Now that IMPULSE is out of the way for me, I can get back onto focusing here and we can finally finish this up. The rewards will be worth it for those willing to stick it out and get it done. I have a shit-ton of press names I got from my stint with IMPULSE and I'm fairly sure they would be a lot more willing to post on us with an actual SQUARE-ENIX item as opposed to an indie game soundtrack. We still have some other stuff up our sleeves too. So there it is. I've waited long enough, I need to get back into the swing of things here. Keiii, Rozovian, I'm going to be looking for you two particularly to get caught up on what I need to get caught up with.
  22. There's a shit-ton of them everywhere on the internet. I have a starter page posted on my website with links to some of the better ones: http://www.meteoxavier.com/p/free-vsts-soundfonts-and-samples.html
  23. If I can find some time in the next couple days, I'll get the last bit of my track finished up. All I think I need to do in there is just humanize the drums, piano and a couple other things and it should be finished. My understanding is TDOMMX is largely satisfied with it as is, even if I could not get the synth bell to double over the lead, and I'm pretty proud of it myself, so I'd like to just do that and call it good if possible.
  24. Upgrades to Komplete are sometimes 50% off. Thats how I got Komplete 8 over the summer.
  25. Who the hell would offer REAL mastering services for free? Even I know better than to trust a "free" lunch. Nobody with the clout to impress an experienced person would do it for nothing, we all know that.
