Dragon Quest-style RPGs Recommendations?

It's too bad I can't buy you a beer over the internet, Coop, because I would totally do that right now. -
I'll verb YOU in the noun!

Dragon Quest-style RPGs Recommendations?
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in General Discussion
Good call on Albert Odyssey. That's one I'm going to try next. I really want to try some of those Working Design RPGs from the Saturn, but apart from modding my Saturn and burning them onto disc (which is conceivable, but far out of my realm of doing right now), I have no way to play them. -
Dragon Quest-style RPGs Recommendations?
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in General Discussion
I'm well-versed in the Lufia series. I'm as keen on the first one as the second. The third one I didn't try because it sounded way too complicated. The GBA one I eventually sold. It was weird but I'm sure someone will appreciate it more than I did. I used to have the Phantasy Star games for the GBA. I may consider those again. PSIV I remember trying and couldn't make heads or tails of what to start out with. I was playing the first Star Ocean game for an emulator and the ROM eventually froze itself shut. This is an excellent start, guys. Thank you -
I'm a total weeaboo, but I'm a weeaboo from like 1991-1995/6. Thats where I hit my peak for videogaming. In celebrating and trying some games out on the emulator before I try to get them for my Super Famicom, I'm playing through one called Silva Saga II, a very easy and short Dragon Quest knockoff, and while I enjoy it, I aspire for something more. I've got 7th Saga and I've played through Earthbound recently already - I'm actually kinda tired of nerd-cult-hit AWESOME RPGs with genre-redefining shit, yeah, yeah, I know Earthbound's everyone's go-to RPG for that. It's like that phrase "You've tried the rest, now try the best." but sometimes, I'd really like to try the rest. Sometimes I really want a stereotypical, forgotten knockoff like 7th Saga that doesn't really do anything new but isn't one I've played to death. Know what I mean? I miss getting my ass kicked by some Chimera Horse Knight because I'm only at Level 18 instead of 24. Any recommendations? Preferably not PC/MAC games or ones that are designed to be tributes like Death of Breath VII or something, but I'll check out all recommendations. Thank you!

Wait, which Zircon and which Chthonic? You knew that was coming.

There are Youtube tutorials for them. There is also a highly recommended and not too cheap textbook called "The Guide For MIDI Orchestration". I have a copy and I have yet to fully dive into it myself, but its highly recommended none the less. EDIT: Wow, how many times can I fit the phrase "highly recommended" in one paragraph? Let's fix that. -
I feel weird self-promoting here, but its part of what I designed the album for: http://12followersmeteoxavier.bandcamp.com/ Also, I'm sending you a PM on it.

This would be an awesome installment of Chapelle's "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong."
-
Yeah, I don't want to sound like an ass, but "Zircon" as an artist or music outfit is surely common enough that someone would have it trademarked already, wouldn't they? I see the disconnect there too. "Zircon" as an artist is surely an even more prevalent name than "prophetik".

My impression was the dude was just getting rich off of his Zelda dubstep. I figured he had to be spending some money to make that happen, but I didn't think it was all going back into promotion and stuff for it.
-
Really? I was told, Overcoat on IRC IIRC, he made like $50,000 or more for his Zelda dubstep and just profits off of it. I don't know of him myself beyond that, that's just what I was told. I probably need to stop posting in this thread, I seem to inadvertingly be making more and more of an ass out of myself.

I fuckin' love the EW Pianos Gold. Best pianos I've ever used. Tricky and heavy, but if you learn how to do it right, you'll be made in the shade. Only Emotional Pianos sounds better to me. -
Yeah I should do that too. That suggestion was not created by rational thinking and unbiased motivation. Edit: Deleted. Zircon might need to remove any parts of his response that contain my original message as well.

Fair enough. I'm sort of incensed to action because this whole thing personally upsets me. That Ephyxia guy gets away with making money on Nintendo's obvious IP while decent guys like you get nailed for pretty much nothing? That's bullshit I won't stand for. All the same, yeah, we need to wait and see. I wasn't planning any action myself but just in case others were already in the pipeline for it... you just never know.
-
I was hoping you'd tell me, that's just something I came across while Googling to see it. It adds another weird layer to this nonsense and I was hoping to see if anyone else knew more about it.
-
I'd agree with you except no one can even find or prove they have "prophetik music" trademarked in the first place. It reminds me of the Nihilists demanding ransom money for a girl they never kidnapped. I would think a company this ferocious about protecting their name might at least produce a copy to prove they have it. Right now it just looks like they're harassing Brad, telling him to go find it in places where it can't be found and expecting compliance. That's not reasonable either. *** On further inspection, did anyone see this yet? http://www.trademarkia.com/prophetik-76259412.html.

How much does it cost? I won't lie, in the shower this morning, I even considered buying it myself so I could have the personal satisfaction of pulling a fast one on those fuckers before transferring it to you.
-
If anyone was trying to drain me of money for some bullshit court thing out of the blue, damn fucking right I'd do everything I could to get it back from them. Taking money from me is sentencing my wife to death, I could not risk them getting away with that. Thats if that was me though.

Ehh... 4GB isn't great for it, but I'm able to do simpler orchestral stuff on mine with it. -
Couldn't one just demand court costs in a countersuit for damages?
-
Yeah, to me, thats the keystone thing there - no one can even find the trademark to prophetik music in the first place. Brad, is there any chance you can trademark it and beat them to the punch? Then throw it back at them and threaten your own legal action. > The first one I'm serious about.
-
Even further nerve - surely someone out there has trademarked "prophetic" just as well.
