Ok, I got a problem here. I wanted to wait until I could talk to Stevo, but now since experience dictates these kinds of things never resolve in my favor, and I don't know when he'll be available again and I know my schedule won't allow me to be this week, I may as well go ahead. I went ahead and sent the track I was working on to Leif Landevag to show him I was working on it and it got rather abruptly rejected because it went in "a very different direction than what we were hoping for with this track." Apparently it was "specified" to sound almost exactly like the X VS Zero in Megaman X5, same tempo, progression, instrumentation, and presumably the same unnecessarily high synth bell lead and my mix did not (same as the original) have any of those - also seems to imply I did not have fast, rock drums, electric guitar or a synth lead for the melody? Uh... what? My mix had drums, guitar and synth lead in it. My understanding, as Stevo told me and the project information made it appear, was that we were largely supposed to just redo the existing tracks with better samples, better production and light remix touches to improve the original composition - nothing in what I was given told me I was to be under guidelines those strict. Here were my instructions with "Fighting Spirit". "This track plays during the bonus battle with the game's main heroine, Spiritia Rosenberg. The battle is undeniably inspired by the battle between X and Zero from Megaman X5, so basing the arrangement on "X vs Zero" is a practically required." That is literally all the instruction there is. It wants the finished version "based" on X vs Zero, not completely emulating it. Does not say same tempo, progression, etc. anything. I tried getting the synth bell in there but it wouldn't fit in the mix. I'm really trying not to be pissy or throw an aspie fit here, but I'd really like some clarification of whats to be expected from us. The project guidelines as written makes it seem more loose and inviting whereas the guy handling it wants it in a much stricter fashion. He doesn't want something good, he wants what he "hopes for". To fit a vision it seems. I just spent 4 days on my track for this game and he loves it, but he wants me to START OVER from scratch to fit this hope that wasn't specified in the first place. I don't have 4 days or more to rewrite a track until its what he "hopes for". I didn't have 4 days to work on this one, I thought it was a relatively quick gig and it spiraled out of control. So, quick word of warning to everyone participating: You might need to write this guy and confirm before you spend a lot of time on a track that doesn't meet hidden expectations. No hate, just really really damn frustrated that 4 days of work might've just gone down the drain on no fault of mine.

Ok, so I didn't see anything about not posting tracks here, so here goes (I'll delete it if I need to later). EDIT: 98% finished versions. I just need to add humanization and articulation in some parts http://tindeck.com/listen/bgjd - Fighting Spirit Redo A http://tindeck.com/listen/pxwg - Fighting Spirit Redo B The different is that damn part 1:36-1:58. One is slightly more full than the other and I saved both just in case. I've never had so much trouble with 20 seconds of music before. The rest of the track took like a few hours - this section took 2 days. That's as good as I can get it, it might need to be fixed in mastering unless I'm just being way way way too anal about frequencies. The loop point needs to be set at the section starting at 0:01.50, or back to the beginning without the introductory four bars. I tried to do that myself and it was causing volume and automation problems. Now I just need Stevo to hear it and let me know.

Synthesis: square wave + tobasco sauce
Meteo Xavier replied to Modus's topic in Music Composition & Production
Hmm - not bad. If you get good at this, you should start to learn how to program on Zebra 2 and then sell sound sets. That'd be a half-decent way of making some extra income. -
Seiken Densetsu 3: Songs of Light and Darkness - History
Meteo Xavier replied to Usa's topic in Projects
Don't open Usa's Faith Total Machine. That's waiting on a guitar recording on my end and, like I posted earlier, I'm taking off time from the project until I finally get this fucking house I was supposed to already have moved into. -
First Volume of UPA cartoons now released!!!
Meteo Xavier replied to EC2151's topic in General Discussion
Why would anyone care what John K. thinks about anything? His greatest achievement was Ren and Stimpy, a show he created and got FIRED from. On topic, YES. Many in my family are die-hard fans of cartoons from the generations past and I can see this as a birthday present for Ma come August. I'm tempted not to tell her about it so I have something to get her for 2012. -

Dammit Rozovian - I know you're around somewhere goshdarnit. I've been trying to send you a newly finished track from beckett007. Quit ghosting like whatever the hell's been stalking us around the apartment complex and face me like a man! >:3 Angry kitten face makes everything serious... -
I'm trying to revamp my self-marketing efforts and I'm considering trying The Indie Bible - which at $39.95 is not cheap. My question is if anyone here has used it or continues to use it and how useful it might be to someone with a variety of non-mainstream genres he works in like me - chiptune, VGM, ambient, etc. Here's the website: http://www.indiebible.com/about.html. Does anyone use this and could vouch for its usefulness?

Improvising Vs Composing Solos
Meteo Xavier replied to AngelCityOutlaw's topic in Music Composition & Production
Combination of two for me. It usually takes me several listens in and around before I get something I like. INterestingly enough, despite my handicap, I can usually come up with something I love on the keyboard/piano, but when I go to put it in, I screw something up and go back to mouseclicking my solos... -
I'm suddenly thinking of John Kricfalusi...

Back from vacation. Thank you all very graciously for the Birthday Wishes. It's a lot of hard work staying alive these days, and it makes me feel my efforts are worthwhile. Thank you again!

If life has taught me nothing else, it's to not expect things like Birthday Threads from people unless I do it myself. Oh shit, yeah, that means I actually have access to Mistwalker and modern Square Enix stuff. I'm kinda scared to get into relatively modern era RPGs though, I just barely got through PS2 era RPGs. I was mostly looking forward to the Xbox Live kinda stuff though.

The one and only! So, in an unusual tradition of receiving game systems I did not ask for, we are now the proud parents of my first Xbox 360. It's actually my wife's old Xbox from Hawaii, but they sent it over and now we're an Xbox family. Weird how that works out. So now I guess I'll be paying attention to Xbox releases and bugging people for recommendations there and on Xbox live arcade or whatever it's called. Now that's a birthday present. Thank you again Ocre!

Yes, it's that time of the year again where local aspie and community chamberpot Meteo Xavier makes his own birthday thread in what ultimately amounts to a cacophony of TROLLFACE.JPG! 28 years ago on a frozen night in Kearney Nebraska, Meteo Xavier, the illegitimate son of Robert Moog and Andy Dick, was born in an understaffed hospital by a tree surgeon in an iron lung, who was also in labor. Doctors said I'd either be dead before I turned 15 or grow up brain damaged. Well, I made the right choice! I'm doing this several days early because I'm going out of town for the next few days. It's called "Community Service" and I'll be sleeping in a tent. You know the only time you can legally shoot a whale in Tennessee is from a moving truck? But they sure as shit don't want you doing it anyway.... If anyone's looking for birthday present ideas, I'm out of condoms. Please send some by the 18th so we can start making balloon animals. And finally... CCCCCCCCAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EDIT: Some pictures taken out because despite all my attempts, they still came out way too large. Sorry about that.

It WAS pretty healthy, but now I don't know what we're trying to establish. It started out on submission guidelines for chiptunes, then an administration response, then a discussion on tenements of chiptunes, then why Espergirl wasn't accepted 6 years ago, then an aggressive reaction from Ubiktune artists... now Sam and Protodome are fighting... I mean, hell, you ended the topic yourself. "Just submit chiptunes."

EWQL products half-off at Sweetwater through March

I have Pianos Gold and I f'n love it. Give it a shot. You could do much worse. -
I'm totally lost on the argument here. What exactly is everyone getting their panties bunched up for? A chiptune remix that was declined 6 years ago? The dignity of the chiptune genre? OCR submission standards? Do you really think the community and administration here is so redneck on chiptunes that it justifies this kind of reaction? You're all just arguing to argue and getting way too uptight on a single genre of music that was never underappreciated here in the first place. Chiptunes are awesome. Chiptunes are vibrant and dignified and chiptunes are the foundation of videogame music - the whole point we're here... but c'mon, get the F over yourselves already. There's no real problem here, so quit making one.

Quick question to participating posters here. I started a related topic in Workshop thread, Music Marketing Online and Getting a Fanbase, with the hopes of taking what's being learned and posted and turning it into a forum guide for how to market yourself and survive as a musician. My question is, would anyone be ok with me using anything posted here that would be helpful and contributing it to this guide I'm interested in building? I hope that doesn't come off as asinine as it sounds.
