Seiken Densetsu 3: Songs of Light and Darkness - History
Meteo Xavier replied to Usa's topic in Projects
Rozovian, get on AIM like a MAN! > -
I was waiting for someone to say it. I was afraid to say it myself and risk taking shit for being an aspie like he used to give me, but this is a better segue. I wanted to issue a more good-natured farewell myself, but this whole thing screams of bad-attitude and butthurt. How much of a prima donna do you have to be to pretend you're Larry Oji-important to the site and announce you're leaving/retiring and then come back with a bunch of attitude like that when most people are wishing you well on your way out? And then still not leave? See ya later Justin. May your days be filled with aspies, Penelope Pitstop, Danish auto parts, hugs from foreigners and the loudest remixes in the history of OCR. Goodnight you Princes of Egypt... you merry men of Scotland... you white Black Dynamite...

GOOD NEWS! Finally got a hold of Usa and he has signed our consent form. We're also going to put his Faith Total Machine remix back up. I need to find a guitarist to do a lead section and I'm trying to see if my brother can do it, but thats all thats missing there. TheDeath has also signed the consent form. I've also helped finish up Karth's Powell remix, so we should have a shitload of new Blue tracks in soon. -
Music Marketing Online and Getting a Fanbase
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Music Composition & Production
That's where I ran into trouble initially. I'm pretty proud of my first two albums as they have afforded me easier access to new opportunities, but their general quality is not up there. My first album was absolutely crippled in a post-production crash and I couldn't go back and fix the execution and mixing, I had to send it straight to mastering. My second album - not sure why people haven't dug it quite as much, I thought a free SNES/PS1 style album would've been more popular, but it's popularity comes and goes. Right now, I'm much better set up and I'm getting a lot better at execution and mixing, but my general naiveness and lack of places to actually put into press and marketing still hold me back. What I'd like to focus on here, at least initially, is to set up a click-able list of places to send that stuff out to based on what people offer here. I want to get it set up like: Press Release: Destructoid.com Kotaku.com IGN.com Reviews: musicreviewsonline.com indiemusicreviews.com Something like that. I know its not as magical as just getting an album through those and pushing buttons, but certainly its stuff like that that really adds up. All the same, that's some really good starting advice, Raptor and I appreciate it. -
Howdy. I have a couple things I'm trying to do here. The first of which is - I've got a new soundtrack I'm working on and it stands to be my highest quality output yet, and I wanted to know some of the ways some of our more successful remixers/game composers have been able to get their music out and around - Danny B, Joshua Morse, Zircon, etc. I know I don't qualify to be in that list as I haven't earned even 1/10th of what they have with fewer remixes posted and not as many years getting work out, but certainly there were things that they did and submitted and plugged to a huge series of places in their first few years to build that fanbase - they didn't just start out popular and go from there. I have built a starting plan and list of what to do with my soundtracks and music from now on once I get them finished and released, but I'd like to find as many more as I can. And if I can get a pretty good response here, the second thing I'm wanting to do, is build a structured guide for others here on Ocremix and my website to do for their own soundtracks and releases - with the advice I get back and based on my own experiences so far with ESPERS and Meteocrity Vol. 1. I mean a REAL start - not the kinds of guides you get elsewhere online full of very generic information that's 10 years old and no ideas of where to actually submit and plug into. That stuff's ok for the utmost beginners, but not helpful for those of us beyond it and, contrary to popular belief, Google does not solve every inquiry that comes it's way. So I'm hoping to get a decent level of feedback here for my own stuff to do, and then take it and turn it into a guide for the community. Thank you!
-
Cool man! Let me know how that goes because I want to use him sometime as well. Also, sorry to go offtopic while I'm talking to you, but we need you to sign the online consent forms for your tracks on the SD3 project so we can finish them off. It's a bureau deal and I don't really get it myself, but sometime we would need you to do that. Thanks again!

Brandon, and by extension, Wesley, I shouldn't have much against the two of you either. I SHOULD be friends with the two of you and I have tried to do so. However, I cannot allow myself to take responsibility for your problems with me, for their own individual reasons, and I CANNOT allow it to spill into the project here. Both of you are project directors, I'm pretty sure you would not appreciate me coming into your project and starting drama out of left field to undermine you and make an already difficult volunteer project even more difficult. What you fail to understand is I do not have a position of power in this project. I'm not the project equivalent of a general or a prince or anything - I'm a servant. I make none of the policies for this project, all I do is make them happen by any means available. This has been a particularly difficult project for the standards set before it, it is not as popular a game as others we are remixing, and because many key people we have needed have flat out disappeared. For those reasons and more, progress is slow and very difficult. So the newest obstacle was last week and it scared the hell out of me. My Grandma right now is going through breast cancer AGAIN. My wife has a heart condition that is disabling. One of my cousins died from Huntington's Disease. Our family spread out between me and the missus have Malaria, disabling stroke, something on the lungs, diabetes and missing a ***damn leg. Through this I have continued work for this project for 3 years and more. Now I have my own health crisis to be concerned about and THIS is what I get in response? "Sounds good to me." "Your management skills are poor." "Go back to pooping blood and let the real men, etc." So maybe I won't be too far out of line when I ask you cut me a little bit of a break, please. I'm not trying to write a sob story here, but I think the two of you do not understand whats going on here, which has fueled this drama, which is negatively impacting the project. I cannot have that. Your apology is accepted, Brandon. No one's telling you to leave or not do anything else with the project. You really are a talented workhorse that I envy but this has to stop. This is not about us, it's about the project and we're so close to finish it, it hurts. There is no reason to let personal shit get in the way of completing an awesome, dignified triple album that should be OCR's pride and joy. That's what I have to say on the matter and it is closed. Let's move on now. -

On the Youtube idea, I can't say I like it. Imagine if you posted your game track or remix on Youtube and everyone else who was working on a remix project wanting attention was posting "Hey guys, check out MY remix at..." or "You guys want to listen to a REAL remix? Check out my remix at...". I see it and quite a bit of "viral" marketing on Youtube and Reverbnation and such. It's pretty obnoxious and no one on Youtube responds well to it. There are better, more dignified ways to market and even viral market this album and I think we should be exploring them instead because, insanely immature drama aside, this is a really dignified project we're putting together. Don't let that stop you from brainstorming and throwing ideas out here. I don't mind a slogan at all as long as its good and fits, I just don't think we'll need one. -

Putting 'tastic on the end of a word does not make it a slogan. Do we really need a slogan? Seems kinda... I don't know how to not say "beneath us", but that and the Youtube suggestions just don't seem to fit the project to me. Definitely based on what we're learning from the Mega Man X thing, we need to offer something far more straight-forward and mature. No gimmicks and no spamming Youtube videos (trust me, people see through that shit pretty easy) and let's rethink the slogan thing. Mostly what I've been working toward right now is getting a list together of videogame places online and maybe print where we can submit a press release, post, download link, etc. I asked Larry where they would be submitting it so I don't get redundant, but I want to use every single decent musical and videogame outlet we can find and get a do-to list together for it. Import/ROM/RPG places are going to be key since Seiken Densetsu 3 still isn't nearly as well known as Secret of Mana. That's where I'm sitting on it right now, any thoughts? -
A slightly annoying but necessary bump for visibility. Got 20 new likes for Ubiktune since yesterday - pretty good but I still think we can do better. Please join up and spread the word!

Killer Studio Chops for only $39

If I'm stealing anyone's shit, it's going to be my own. That's how we do things in this part of the world. -
I was at work, dude, I only had so much time to come up with names to drop, so I chose the most recent ones I could think of. Either way, you're benefitting from it if we can get Ubiktune's page likes up.

Killer Studio Chops for only $39
Meteo Xavier replied to Nabeel Ansari's topic in Music Composition & Production
...thats not a bad idea. How do I do that? -
Ok, we need to discuss something rather injust that no one is talking about or doing much of right now. Ubiktune, THE best chiptune label on the internet, home to incredible albums like FX4 by Virt, Preschtale by C-Jeff, Onslaught! OST by Joshua Morse, and the upcoming NES Jamz by Shnabubula - either for free or the kind of money you have in your couch cushion right now... ...has less than 420 likes on their Facebook page. Seriously? That's it? I find that genuinely shocking. There are chiptune labels we've never heard about and/or don't care about with TEN TIMES as many fans as that! Is this how we repay C-Jeff and all the artists on there who've worked hard for the albums we've been enjoying? If you have a Facebook page (and, c'mon, you don't not have a Facebook page) and you've been enjoying those albums (and, c'mon, you have been) there is no reason at all not to help them climb up. Please join up on their Facebook page and help spread the word. I'm not a Ubiktune artist, I'm just a dedicated fan who was shocked to find their fan presence there so small and I think we need to fix it. Thank you!

No, man! I needz more vyooz! Whats the point of having Killer Studio Chops if no one's going to hear it!? -
Hey Andrew. We're doing the final round of invites for the SD3 Project here on OCR and I don't believe I've ever seen you one. Would you have any time, availability or interest in taking one of the last tracks we have available?
Thank you!

Meteo Xavier replied to Usa's topic in Projects
Ok, next announcement from my end, me and the wife are going to be moving into a new house (FINALLY) and I will be less and less available as it gets closer to April 2nd, the closing and moving date. After that, I hope to be fully available again after the first week of April. So if I owe anyone work or anyone needs something from me in the project sense, please request it now because I may not be able to get to it until after the first week of April. Don't be shy! If I can help you in any way, blast it out and I'll try to get to it. That's my job and I'm happy to do it. Hit me up here or at Meteo.Xavier@gmail.com or MeteoX9999 for AIM. Keep up the good work people! We're getting more and more progress done and if we keep it up, we could have tracks finished by the start or middle of summer! EDIT: Ooh, one more thing. I'm also trying to build up press ideas for spreading SD3 as far as humanly possible. If you know of any, and I do mean ANY, videogame sites or music places where we could successfully submit a press release or anything else pointing potential fans to the remix release, post it here! We've worked hard and we should get our due for the effort we put in. Thank you again! -

Hit me up on AIM sometime, Rozo. I've got a new version of Karth's Powell mix and he likes it. I need to send it to you for EQ suggestions and then Blue it. We can also blue Jeffrey Hayat's track. His track has already passed the Judge's table under the name "Mother of Turmoil". -

Holy shit, did you see the Youtube number on that video? 500,000 in a couple days. I guess we weren't the only ones who thought it was a joke... ...ohhh, now the ad campaign is making sense to me... -

I thought the Killer Studio Chops thing did die... Also, I'm going to avoid making the same jokes everyone else is making and say what no one else is saying - the drum samples are actually not too bad at all. I'm sure you could also find just as good drum samples for the same price elsewhere, but still, if you can get past the horrible ad campaign they're doing, you might actually get a pretty decent product. Anyone feel like volunteering to see if it really is a joke or not? -

You are not helpful. I don't even know what you do for this project if anything. Brandon at least contributes some genuinely awesome music and for that I'm willing to give him some benefit for his opinions. Your entire thing here is based on past vitriol, something I've made an effort to largely stop doing for the past two years. I can't say with any authority I've stopped doing it entirely, but my days of doing that at the drop of a hat have been over for some time. You should know more than anyone, because you stick your name and nose obsessively on every project that comes to light, that management on an OCR is more than just dealing with people socially. I'm not good with that, I admit it, and that's not what I promise to the project. I promise instead to get more tracks in and offer whatever I can for the benefit of efficiency and closing off things to do. My whole vitriolic defense here is a measure to keep you from continuing to waste our time on bullshit drama. I could've been working on Youtube links for the front page right now, instead, I'm trying to stop bullshit drama that was not necessary in any way, shape or form and may be detrimental to project progress. You will stop wasting my time with your bullshit so I can continue work for the project. If you have a problem with me, do something about it. Get me thrown out. Ban me if you want, but in the context of the project, you have no authority over me and the best you can criticize me for is shit that happened 2-3 years ago that had nothing to do with this project. If three sponges filled with blood couldn't stop me from continuing work here, you can't either. I will apologize for some aggressiveness, but not all of it because it gets tracks in. That's what matters, and that's the end of this argument. We're going with Archangel and thats the last of the bullshit. -

If the management skills are poor, why does Rozovian allow me to continue? He's my boss and he promoted me in the first place. He also gave the ok to come back. If he agrees, he can demote me back out, but he's the authority on that matter here, not Brandon and not you. My poor management skills are helping where it matters most right now - getting tracks in and recruiting others. I have to emphasize tracks over people skills because, guess what, this project is years and years old and people are disappearing left and right. Not all of us are happy waiting 5 or more years for their work to be justified. If you have suggestions for how I could improve as a manager in a reasonable context, I am more than happy to hear them and execute them - I will do anything that is beneficial for the project, but Rozovian and the project itself are my masters, not you. If you have a problem with me as a person, which is most likely what your criticisms are deriving from, take it outside this forum. There is no room for drama as we get this accomplished. I want tracks in, no drama and no bullshit. If that makes me a poor manager, so be it, but take your drama outside. It's pretty hard to be humble about a shortcoming when one does not know what the specific shortcoming is. "Pushy" does not count because, again, that's my job and it's what I have to do for the project.
