Something that would be a lot more interesting to me is seeing remixers showing posted mix projects in their daw, the different parts, how everything was constructed. But even that to the average listener is probably dull as dirt.

Almost done with my track. I'm really digging it. The source has nothing to do with Christmas so it was fun molding it into a wintery holiday sound.

3/4 is lots of fun. I don't think it's that much harder than 4/4. 5/4 is actually not overly hard to do, and that is good fun as well. Everyone should try 3/4 and 5/4 at least once.

the Rayman soundtrack was astonishing back in the early 90s, given that many PC games were plodding along with horrible General MIDI soundtracks. Even to this day it sounds polished and high quality.

Silly moral distinction to draw. Most people don't make whole tracks out of loops because it really isn't that enjoyable. so use them where they work for you. Also your fears of computers doing everything is unfounded. isn't the primary purpose of making music for expression? what joy would be gained if you had a computer do everything for you?

Honestly I just work through muscle soreness. once you start exercising you'll find the soreness actually diminishes.

Not sure about opening with the clarinet ensemble, sounds a bit empty. Mix is dead and muffled when the rest of the orchestra comes in. timpani is too lofi, cymbals are too sharp and weird sounding. synth and drum kit sounds too loud compared to the previous section. drums sound fake and unprocessed. guitar sounds pretty bad, not at all powerful like it should be. sorry for all the negativity, but I think the track needs a lot of work from the mix and sound selection standpoint.

XPRTnovice is to blame for making me buy the whole thing. I hate him. I have just realized... I am a soundware hoarder. If I use 0.1 percent of these sounds it will be a miracle.

NVA specializes in loops, and as such most of their products don't really appeal to me. That's just my personal bias and doesn't reflect on them. That said I own Shimmer and Shake and it's really nice. I'm definitely going to pick up their ethnic multisampled instruments. You can buy most of their stuff separately on sale. A few titles are only available if you buy the whole enchilada.

There are four different envelopes you can apply on a per-item basis: volume, pan, mute, and pitch. Of the four, pitch envelopes are by far the most interesting and useful. By default the range is +- 3 semitones. That's ok, but you can change that, allowing you to do wild pitch swoops. Additionally you can quantize the pitch. The limitations of pitch envelopes is they are item-only, and don't work on MIDI. But for MIDI pitch bending you can refer back to the ReaControlMIDI post. So yep, pitch envelopes, give them a try.

It's easy to miss, but you can actually search the Preferences page! Great if you're looking for a possible preference but don't know where it is located.

I really need to finish my Christmas album track. After that I can knock together a beat. What you can do for me is tell me if you want a specific structure... number of bars in verse, number of verses, if you want a chorus or not.

Ok that's enough heavy shit for now, let's do some quick tips to unwind. No doubt you are aware of splitting items by S. That's an ok way to trim items, but I prefer the trim left and right commands. Bind them to a couple of ergonomic keys and you'll find yourself using it all the time rather than splitting and deleting.

I've concluded the MIDI is to blame. Whoever made it must have not exported time and tempo changes with the MIDI. So it starts off correct but by the end is off the grid.
