Moseph is probably correct, the sound difference you hear is the extra mic positions. You have to compare apples to apples. 24-bit samples are for people who think they add some extra fairy dust or something, there's no way they by themselves are doing what you think.

I don't know why there is so much obsession around "mastering" in the hobbyist musician community. I put it in quotes, because if you are only working on a song at a time it's arguably not mastering at all, which usually refers to an album context. Seriously, people are utterly obsessed with this mythical "mastering" process that will take their poorly mixed track and polish it into gold.

It does sound partially like old school Zircon. You can tell Willrock took some inspiration from Clash at the Mountains.

Mellotrons are kinda the granddaddy of modern keyboards. They used physical tapes, recordings of a certain instrument, that are triggered by playing the keyboard. They have been commonly used in genres like prog rock but I think they work nice in most styles if you need a nostalgic sound.

I live in an apartment, but i don't need to record live vocals and drums, and a guitar amp. I can see how his needs would be trickier to meet than mine. Without us being able to see his apartment bldg, we don't know how bad it really is. Maybe a move would be the best thing.

I was VERY jealous of the Game Gear hardware back in the day because the color backlit screen. Trying to play Donkey Kong Land in less than bright light, Jesus Christ. The GG library never much appealed to me tho.

Utterly ridiculous. But I'm not a high end customer so I can't say if this product has merit or not. In the same way I find a full Pro Tools rig completely and utterly unnecessary.... for me.

I changed that option and it fixed the DK rap in DK64. But other tracks are still jumpy. And Ogre Battle 64 is utterly unlistenable. Other the other hand things like Goldeneye and Mario 64 seem to play fine. Bizarre....

Yeah, real acoustic guitar notes don't cut off so abruptly during transitions between notes, they ring out more. Overlapping the notes would help in that regard, or maybe turn up the release on the sample.
