Quite true, good sir pretzel. This year's offerings are especially impressive to me in that some of them have been brand new IP's (Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed,) while several others have been sequels to games or series that easily could have rested on their laurels and didn't (Halo, Mario, Metroid.) If Brawl had come out this year, it would have been over. Bravo, games industry. Yet another year of refuting the "good old days" argument. All that having been said, I LOVE THIS GAME. Before you ask, I would gladly go to Vermont and get a civil union with Mario Galaxy if I could. I don't think that's legal yet, though. Seriously, though, I'm 36 stars in after having played it for about six hours, and I've loved almost every minute of that. The gravity shifting is surprisingly intuitive, the controls are simple but effective, and the challenge is just enough to make me exclaim at the screen when I mess up but still want to keep playing. Great stuff.

In addition to my djimbe, hopefully I'll have a pair of congos by January. Sorry, I don't want people playing any of these without me being there. Band stuff. -
Yeah, that should be pretty sweet. Not quite the Thunderhorse of Guitar Hero II or My Curse of III, but still sweet. Also, in case you guys didn't know, Wanted Dead or Alive is possibly the best drunken sing-along song in the world. It's either that, Journey's Don't Stop Believing, or most songs by Flogging Molly. Unfortunately those last two are not available, so Bon Jovi will have to do.

Fixed. Also, congrats new jdgfgts. I trust you can DJP. -
The band equivalent to Guitar Hero. I.e., the hotness. Yeah, I can only imagine how tiring that would be, Bigfoot. Wasn't the Guitar Hero 3 demo worse though? The rock band demo has a hell of a lot more songs.
-
Why wouldn't you buy it on other systems? Because you'd rather play on Live?
-
I don't doubt some OCR rock bands will be formed, nor do I doubt that MAGFest will neglect the game. Good times ahead.
-
Fixed. Check out the Eurogamer review if you have any doubts. This game is gonna rock faces.

Best Buy unfortunately (wisely, really) did not have the microphone plugged in. Also, I didn't try the bass part. That having been said, I imagine the mic won't be too different from Karoake Revolution or its ilk.

So yeah, played the demo yesterday and had a blast. Don't really know about the new guitar yet (solo buttons are kind of awesome but the lack of clicking on the strum bar throws me off more than a little,) but the drums are sweet. This is coming from a drummer, too. It feels like playing an electronic 4-pad drum kit along with music. Pretty damned tight timing on expert too, so plenty of challenge. Needless to say, I'm excited. Discuss.

Man up son. When I was a kid I used to walk 2 miles uphill in the cold to go play Mario 64 at the local Wal-Mart. Funny thing here is I'm not kidding. Damn I'm a gamer.
-
sephfire. You comin' to MAGFest, man? It would be nice to have somebody from OCR win the Guitar Hero tournament, and frankly, I ain't all that great for an Expert player.
-
Me and my friends did it straight up, right after Melee came out. No Sudden Death, no nothing. I think we were at Onett. And yes, it did last about three hours. Silly lock-ins. I'm pretty sure I won, actually. Samus is damned good for the long haul.
-
Good job, sephfire. That song is so painful on so many levels. I really wish Raining Blood was just a little easier. I want to like it, not to mention beat the damn thing.
-
Yup, that's right. Googled it. Thanks for the tip.

I can feel that. One of my favorite tracks off of Best of SEGA. I can do a pretty impression of the ol' Big Earl as well. Still, my suggestion stands. I desperately want to do a synth/latin jazz/rock version of Jungle Brinstar. If you search your feelings, Tauce, you'll find you do as well. -
...so, um, is the game good? I really want to learn Spanish. I've been excited about these language-teaching games for about two years now.
-
Jeez, we need some Expert players on that Tour Group. I'll join as soon as I can. Screw Herman Li. On PRACTICE, I hit 72% of the notes in Through the Fire and the Flames. PRACTICE. Ridiculous. Otherwise, most of the track list isn't too bad.
-
Big props, joedontplay and Tauce. I'm stuck at work where they don't let me wear a full costume. A shame, because I still have my cap and gown from my recent tech school graduation. I was going to dress as a graduate of STFU. As it stands, I'm dressed as a Crip. I'm not sure if how much longer they'll let me keep only my top shirt button fastened, but at least it's something, I guess.

Trying to keep up the steam Noah. This should be badass. As for what to play, I think with two djimbes and a set of bongos as the only drums, I think we should collab on a treatment of Jungle Brinstar from Super Metroid. I'm already trying to convince my band to play this, but it would probably be better suited to us OCers anyway. -
Bump for awesomeness. 800 in a few minutes here at work, then figured I should stop before they fire my ass.
-
Beat up the demo on Monday. It's kinda strange, the difference in the timing. Gave me major problems on The Metal, which is a song I would have destroyed on Guitar Hero II, though once I got more used to it, I 99%ed Lay Down. Actually, it said I did 100%, but I definitely missed notes, so that's weird. All that having been said, I am majorly excited about this game. Hot damn. Evenflow? ONE? THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA?!? Freakin' awesome.
-
That's a pretty badass lineup, all things considered. Still though, what's up with the Minibosses being too good for MAGFest? Also, I miss The Year 200X.
-
I completely disagree, Wes. I've been a hardcore supporter of MAGFest since M3 (only three years but still,) and I only worked last year's, but it was a blast. I saved money and I had a good time meeting the fellow staffers. Besides, if you don't get that warm feeling from supporting the effort of the fest, you can at least power trip, which is fairly fun.
