  1. Yeah, I definitely can't go to youtube at school (or be banned from the labs here.) Anyway, if that's the interview with Jack where he mentions violent media then I'm familiar with it, but since then most of the focus has been on campus policies and so on as opposed to censorship and the like.
  2. Empire Arcadia is (are?) the shit, but yeah, you guys pretty much summarized what's wrong here. This might be a good idea if JT or somebody tried to pin the shootings on games, but thus far noone's really made that the thrust of their argument. There's good cause for that, since dude was in fact not a gamer, and they found zero games in his dorm. Nonetheless, if somebody tried to pull some serious BS (and Mr. Thompson has done so before,) then a gamer-based demonstration of some sort might not be a terrible idea.
  3. A good point, though I imagine that had something to do with Take Two preempting ole' Jackie boy about Manhunt and GTAIV. Manhunt on the Wii could be...gruesome.
  4. Sorry for the delay guys, I lost my cell phone this past weekend and that has made it difficult to get a hold of people, obviously. I'll try and wrangle some passengers by next week.
  5. ...or familiar. Usually the only lyrics I can listen to while I work out are those of rap or something silly like the Mortal Kombat theme (which you NEEEEEED to get, BTW.) I didn't mention them in particular before when I was talking about VG metal, but Black Mages in a big way. Also, I have to reemphasize what everyone's been saying about bLiNd being the shit for working out. I just got done listening to Industrial Fear from DK Country, and good God it was all I could do to not jump up and starting pumping out some pushups and shit. If I weren't in a Comp Lab here in school I probably would have done just that.
  6. MINIBOSSES! Actually, any VG Metal is raw, obviously, so goat and Ailsean also leap to mind. ffmusicdj has some good stuff for cardio workouts (running and so forth is a fine fit for steady techno.) As far as anime goes, Trigun has some solid tracks for working out, and as usual, I do have to call attention to one Missus Yoko Kanno for her awesome work on the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack.
  7. Or like the minimal discount, though that really wasn't enough for me. Unless your Gamestop is freakish, you probably won't need to know jack jiminy crap about games.
  8. bump: synonyms-budge, displace, move over, remove, shift So has anybody else plugged in their X-Plorer? It's freakin' awesome. Also, can somebody please do a better Master of Puppets? The only one I've seen is fucking pathetic, and it's rated as Amazing.
  9. If I wanted to be silly about it I could say also that all the world's a stage and it's dramatic irony that I checked that book out. Nonetheless, my usage of the word stands as is. Anyways, have you guys read the rest of his short stories? Welcome To The Monkey House is an awesome collection of them, and I was fairly amazed. He was already one of my favorites when I read it, but I had no idea that he had such versatility. Many of the works are much more traditional than was his standard fare, and almost all of them are exceptional examples of the short story genre, one of my favorite types of writing. Also, that picture Effector linked to got me a little misty-eyed despite myself.
  10. Sum noob? Actually, pixie, I am curious how you got the gig. I'm sure being a shtyjdgfgt helped, but do tell.
  11. God in Heaven, fuck this shit. Not just random people but college students, cut down in the primes of their lives, on the verge of becoming useful members of society, and most if not all with loving families who probably just got over seeing them leave the nest. Fuck this. My prayers go out to you VT folks.
  12. I think I can agree with that. Criticism (intelligent or otherwise) can wait a little. Ironic that I just got Cat's Cradle out of the library the other day. Vonnegut is definitely one of my favorite authors, for his creativity, humor, and poignant self-criticism.
  13. Count me in, folks. Hey Tauce, you want to ride together? Also, my grandparents live in Rockville (which is one of the many suburbs of DC,) so I'm thinking perhaps me and two or three others could save on a hotel. I can think of a couple people who might go with me (primarily the same friends I brought to MAGFest this year,) so priority would probably go to them, but if they can't go or something, I'm sure my grandparents would be okay with hosting a few well-behaved nerds for a weekend.
  14. Hey, do you go to WCU? That would be fairly awesome. I wonder who exactly at Gamestop that is. Most of the cool people I thought had left. Hmm. I worked there around this time two years ago, so I'm guessing you probably aren't a WNC native.
  15. First off, you have my sincere thanks for a useful post and some very constructive criticism. I appreciate that. Secondly, now that you mention it, it could use some more motion and off-focus contrast. I did include a few items to produce motion and draw the eye around the canvas (the dashed line and the fuchsia object primarily,) but now that I look at it again, it is a little more stagnant than I might have liked. This isn't too bad in my mind, since the piece is supposed to work with a six and a half minute long song, so I think too much force or action in the work would detract from its statement about the remix. Nonetheless, I can definitely see where you're coming from. Third, the colors actually ended up okay in my opinion. For a while I wasn't satisfied with them, but I was actually going for a murky, ambiguous feel to them with only a few points of contrast, and I think I pulled that off all right. The little bits of bluish hues and the circles in the back with a red tint I thought helped break up the monotony of so much green. Finally, you're right, this was mainly a technical exercise, being our first assignment in Illustrator, and the first time I had ever used any vector-based graphical editor.
  16. Yeah, it's pretty popular on the intarwebs to hate Metallica, and while they are totally assholes, I gotta go with them. Megadeth does really stomp faces, but once you get used to the drums, even St. Anger's a really good album in my opinion. A good friend of mine saw them during the Madly in Anger tour and got to hear most of that album with their regular drum set-up. Fucking lucky bastard.
  17. Happy day of birthing! I'll tilt back a Guinness in your honor, good sir.
  18. So wait, is this a "What Remix Would Best Represent You as You In Fact Are?" thread, or a "What Remix Would You Want to Be?" thread? Eh. For the former, I might be Shadow's Theme by K. Praslowicz. For the latter, probably Protovaffe by Mustin.
  19. It must be nice being rich. I'm going to have a hard time paying my rent when it comes time for Ye Olde Hawtness (Brawl, Prime 3, Galaxy, etc.) on Wii. As it stands, I'm going to have to make a hard decision between Super Paper Mario and you know, basic sustenance.
  20. Every color I used had at least some green in it, if it wasn't in fact a shade of green. I used a RGB slider in Illustrator to guarantee that, and the farthest I strayed was with one object that was close to fuchsia, and a very dark green for the long dashed line.
  21. In my Computer Art 1 class a couple of weeks ago we were assigned the task of creating a non-representative work of art based off of a particular song of our choosing. Naturally, I leapt at the chance to shed some limelight on OCR, so I chose to do mine based off of Disco Dan's awesome Green Amnesia from Chrono Trigger. Here's what I came up with in Adobe Illustrator CS/2; What do you guys think? I can take criticism, so be honest, but if you absolutely hate modern art, you probably won't like this either, so that's not really useful.
  22. Um, yeah, this is true, to an extent. I was more referring to the pun on Protoman's original name (Blues.) Thus my own alias and sig motifs.
  23. I've thought a bit about this, and have some ideas as to some mixes I wouldn't mind doing. I've even started work on some, but for some reason or another, never finished one. I love piano arrangements, and so many a theme done with piano would appeal to me. I can play to a small degree, and my brother is a classically-trained pianist, so this isn't out of the question. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind messing around with house, happy, or ambient techno styles, and if I had the talent, there would be metal. And how. As for specific ideas, I've had a few, but mainly I would love to do a jazz piano rendition of Protoman's theme, perhaps even incorporating the Cowboy Bebop theme song. I don't think I should have to explain why.
  24. Well put, sephfire. Combine this with just a little sense of the theatrics (playing behind your head, behind your back, etc.) and you can be fairly impressive to a lot of folks in a fraction of the time it would take to not look like a jackass with a real instrument. Also, distance is lame. Sure, we could trade tracks across the intarweb and so on, but ultimately we would pretty much have to meet up, and that can get tricky. So, this seems like a good alternative for a lot of folks.
