  1. Man, that's awesome you're doing better, bLiNd. Great to hear good news like this. I like to think our prayers and well-wishing sent you the good energy you needed to recuperate. I'll keep sending you my dose until you're back to new.
  2. Right. Saw it Wednesday night at an employee screening (thanks, roomie,) and again Thursday night at a midnight showing. Suffice it to say, I loved it. Not quite perfect, but pretty close. On scope and intention alone, I really salute the Nolans. Of course it helps to have such a competent cast, and what I consider the best single acting job I have ever seen in Ledger's Joker. Thoughts on the next one, guys? Joker didn't die, so maybe they meant to have him back for the sequel. Good luck there. I think an adaptation of Knightfall could be sweet, or maybe an extended version of Heart of Ice (the Mr. Freeze genesis story on the Animated Series.) Watchmen looks promising. They showed a lot of the more action-oriented scenes in the trailer, but what dialogue they had was verbatim, so I have some high hopes. Watchmen is my favorite comic, and one of my favorite books period, so it better kick ass.
  3. bLiNd was one of the first members of the OCR community I had the pleasure of interacting with outside of the forums. He instant messaged me out of the blue on AIM and we got into an hour discussion about remixes and each other's day-to-day lives. He let me hear his work-in-progress version of the Temple theme from Zelda II. It was, and still is, awesome, as is the rest of his work. That little chat really struck me with not only how talented Jordan was, but also how friendly and humble. He'll be in my thoughts, and I'll be sending him some good energy.
  4. I play my djembe and congas with my band and I'm learning some basic guitar and bass from my bandmates. I've been messing around on the piano since I was a youngling, but have never really pursued learning it as such. I used to be fairly decent with an ocarina, until I lost mine. I'm dabbling with the harmonica.
  5. dPaladin; I believe that was the inital question, then the thread more or less got derailed onto what you were describing. I could be wrong.
  6. Random facts you get from having a classically trained pianist for a brother.
  7. Happy birthday, good sir! I will drink a heady alcoholic beverage in your honor!
  8. Happy day of birthing, Jill! I'll tilt one back for ya.
  9. OCR babies for the win. That's awesome, man. Congratulations!
  10. FIGHT CLUB. Yup, favorite movie. Also, Equilibrium. Badass action, decent ethical/psychological issues. Beautiful Mind. Russell Crowe really should have won his Oscar for this.
  11. So pretty much everything important has already been said at least once here, but there were a couple things in the article itself which stuck out as not quite correct. First, you mention the IDEA of a Piano Hero. Behold Synthesia. Pretty cool if you ask me. Also, That's only if you never go to practice mode, my friend. Playing through tough sections at lower speeds has naturally been invaluable for me. I'm far from the best Guitar Hero player, but I'm not bad, and that has been a big help in pushing my game up. You could even make the point that this idea can then be applied to other instruments(not to mention any other skill ever.) To the beginner, as soon as you have something memorized at least partially well, it's very tempting to go full speed every time you practice. As my martial arts instructors are apt to intone: "Practice slow, learn fast. Practice fast, learn nothing." So many intricacies are found in going slowly and then building up speed. Eh, just a couple thoughts.
  12. Yup, can't go wrong with the Golden Power man. As for variants on the Triforce, a few people have done the bird and that's pretty sweet. I was thinking about making mine the mirror of twilight from Twilight Princess for a little while but what I've finally decided upon I'm pretty pumped about. In the Link to the Past manual there was this picture; I'm going to get that but substitute the background for the mountains and city skyline here in my hometown.
  13. There's a couple. I'm nucking futs. My triforce tattoo ain't a bad one, even though it's not anywhere complete for what I have in mind. Nonetheless, I got it at the beach after being seriously sunburned and proceeded to get d-runk before going out and getting tatted. Oh yeah, and it's directly on my spine. I gave myself forehead wounds at MAGFest 6 this year by playing the Rock Band cowbell with my dome. Somehow, some way, my band still managed to lose that ridiculous excuse for a tournament. Camped out for both the gamecube and the Wii. A Ninty fanboy is me. Met Shigeru Miyamoto by accident and got his autograph. Oh yeah, that's framed in my room. Bought $300 worth of classic videogames stuff (Colecovisions, Ataris, Mario thermos, etc.) Probably the most hardcore thing I've done though was when I was a kid and would walk 45 minutes to the local Wal-Mart to play Mario 64 for hours at a time. My neck would be killing me so bad on the walk back, but I would invariably be doing it again in a couple days. God I loved that game. Did I mention I love video games?
  14. Ooh, oh, tag the martial arts nerd in! Achem, ukemi is a Japanese term for the art of the uke. The uke is literally the one who gives force, or in layman's terms, the attacker. Thus, ukemi incorporates techniques such as breakfalls and rolls for the protection of the uke after his or her force is met by the nage (defender) and countered. Thus, ukemi gets used in games a lot as a term for break or "tech" falls.
  15. A buddy of mine pretty much thrust this game upon me, extoling its virtues with much relish. It's pretty cool overall, and definitely more of what the Wii needs, though it isn't perfect. My main gripe is with the bosses; sure, they're fairly awesome personalities, but once you get their pattern down, it's pretty much just grind away until they finally fall down. Add to that the fact that landing wrestling moves on the bosses(possibly the best part of the game and certainly one of the best ways to hurt them) seems completely arbitrary, and they can get a bit annoying. Otherwise, though, the game's good dumb fun, which is pretty much exactly what Suda51 was looking for; pure pulp.
  16. Here's some weather for you guys. Looks like it won't actually be THAT cold in DC. Thanks for building our nation's capital on a swamp, founding fathers!
  17. Alrighty, it picks up once the pirates attack. I'd still rather have the actual manga in my hands, though.
  18. So, hmm, speaking of canon, does anyone know if the manga IS canon? I'm having a tough time slogging through it and would like to know if I'm wasting my time. As for Ridley, I've always thought of him as a field commander, leader in absentia of the Mother Brain, Dark Samus, or some other mastermind.
  19. Man, that's pretty cool. Nice find, Gecko. Also, Baller.
  20. Yeah, one of those automated Mario levels (the Big Boo one) was posted in the Internet Videos thread. Fairly freaking awesome. I still think all of these hacks need to be applied to Super Mario 2.
  21. That's a pretty sweet story, man. Wasn't there a ghosts thread not too long ago, and did you post your tale? Anyways, this is the best birthday thread I've seen. You've beaten Karnov? That shit is rough. SUPER ROUGH. Megaman 2 is pretty frickin' sweet. It's actually one of my first videogame memories (my cousins rented it one time when we were visiting them and my grandma,) and it has my vote for second best OST after Chrono Trigger. All this aside, happy day of birthing, sir! I shall most likely drink a Newcastle in your honor.
  22. That's pretty baller to be in a "Best Of" list alongside freakin' Enya. Honestly, who CAN'T listen to Enya? Anyways, congrats Pixie!
