  1. er thanks guys! I appreciate it, even if it's a day late
  2. Agreed, opinions and a well-reasoned, civil debate can be beautiful things. I've seen it happen on the internet, so I know it's possible. I don't have a problem with favorites threads at all. People already express how much they like a mix through the amount of comments on that mix's review thread, so it's not like a favorites thread is really any different. The only thing that was annoying about them in the past was their frequency, but that could've been fixed. Anyway, I hope the blogs do get to implement an ability to list favorites, because I really do enjoy reading about people's favorite things general, especially if they're really passionate about those things. A rating system would be different and probably a lot more likely to lead to hurt feelings/the site implicitly endorsing one mix over another, but no one has ever seriously talked about implementing that.
  3. I used MODplug to start with, obviously it's very limited, but I've always liked it a lot. I used Reason after that for the longest time, but the interface has started wearing on me and I'm finding FL a lot more to my liking now (the interface seems friendlier to me). REAPER I like too, though I've only really been using it when I record audio, and I'm sure there's a lot more to explore there.
  4. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This mix isn't necessarily a style I'd be into normally, but I like how gentle/fragile it is. You can really see a lot of care and sensitivity taken to the emotional weight of the arrangement, which is impressive, especially given the quality of the samples. WAY TO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! :)
  5. thanks! It was done back in 2004, put on vgmix then submitted to OCR but I pulled it to redo the drums (which never happened). I had some people tell me recently that they liked it a lot, so I submitted it to thasauce.

anyway, glad you liked it! I've been meaning to get back into remixing for awhile, so I might finally get off my butt and work on something in the next few months.

  6. Either gameboy tetris or gameboy super mario land when I was 2/3.
  7. I thought it was real, and then I looked at the "http://foxnews.zzl.org/" URL, and it looks like a fake. And then I googled to confirm that it's definitely a fake.
  8. whatever time signature(s) this song is in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYdjQCrO_xM
  9. Castlevania III kicked your ass, and then damn, did you kick its ass back. No hits! That is extremely impressive, dude. And congrats on the newspaper article. I can't wait to see you do NG, that game series has always given me so much frustration.
  10. I actually really really liked Third. It's obviously not like their earlier material, but it is very worth getting into. Also the 60's band The Silver Apples that they drew heavy inspiration from for that album is worth checking out.
  11. hey, dunno if this is where I post this. I just noticed that one of my mixes doesn't have the album info for it: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01112/ I can't figure out if it's because someone missed it or there are slight differences between it and the album version (they're not really significant differences though). anyway, nice and useful!
  12. CV3 will own you, and then you will own CV3, and it will be awesome. Nice work!
  13. supposedly it is actually from the show.

  14. You're really missing out. It's one of the best games ever made. Like Akumajo said, you might want to check out the High Definition Texture Package.
  15. killer logic there, killer I think the SNES version is highly praised just because it's a passable port that's somewhat remarkable given the limitations of the system. I don't think that anyone would argue for playing that instead of the original PC version (or at least I hope no one would). Another one to add to the list: Donkey Kong Country 1. Everyone was blown away by the graphics and music at the time, but the gameplay was pretty easy and I don't think it's aged very well. DKC2, on the other hand, seems to have aged well.
  16. Nice thread! I've had thoughts of doing this sort of thing before, so it's nice to know someone's doing it. I love SNES music so much. I love the 7th Saga music ("Kamil Dowanna" is another great track from it) and Axelay is one of the better game soundtracks I've heard, btw. I should look at some of those others.
  17. I love Perfect Dark, but I think I agree with you there. Not even as much graphically as just in terms of the game overall. I think Goldeneye has almost aged better, at least in terms of the single player missions, because it's simpler. I think FFVIII is pretty dated. I like FFVII fine because of the unique art style, I guess, and the fact that I never played it when it came out so I always knew about those crazy polygons. Early attempts at motion capture and 3d games are for the most part extremely dated. A lot of early CD games, and early PS1 and N64 games. Though Mario 64 and Zelda 64 I do not find dated in the least bit. A lot of people would say Wolf 3D and DOOM are dated but I disagree, because I feel like they're not trying to do anything they aren't, and I think the graphics to both of them are effective if simple. A lot of their clones are extremely dated though. I think it's really the gameplay that dates a game in the end, not the graphics.
  18. I enjoy a lot of the subtle little things done throughout the mix, but I don't think that's enough to make me enjoy the way the source was interpreted here. I don't know if it really works like it's supposed to. With the sounds it's obvious that all the choices were intentional, but they just left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. I think that's more because of the arrangement than anything else, though.
  19. I used to mute games and listen to basically any kind of music I had. The strangest was when I was playing FF6 and listening to Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart. I felt guilty about that, though...I mean I obviously like FF6's music a lot, I just felt more like I needed to hear non-game music at the time. I'm less like that now, unless the game has music that doesn't leave much of an impression on me or it's a game where I've heard the music a billion times (like super mario world hacks or something). Then the music I listen to is generally less about what fits the game and more about what mood I'm in at that moment. It can be interesting to have, like, a very contemplative time playing Mario or something.
  20. I beat Portal at a friends house awhile back, but I never actually bought the game. I feel pretty damn smart now.
  21. I dunno about anywhere else in the game but time stop is extremely useful in Crash Man's stage too, on the ladder part.
  22. I like Lady Gaga. Her choice to be a weird mainstream glam pop star seems completely intentional, and I think she's very fully embracing the ridiculousness of that persona. Her music hasn't blown me away (though I love her videos), but it's pretty good for what it is. It seems like she has the talent to stick around, at least.
  23. Thanks guys! That was fast! I really appreciate it. I do want my mixer name changed eventually, but there's no hurry on that. It's a reference to . The "guro" is kind of a joke reference to Ero Guro because that's what someone said my name looked like when I had it as "ella guru".
