  1. Yeah, trust me, I don't get it either. It's just one of those personal preference thingies. I wouldn't say they are BAD or even ADEQUATE to any extent, they definitely work. They just detract from my personal enjoyment of the mix in-total. It's the old To-MAY-to vs. To-MAH-to argument. That being said, this was definitely a highlight of the album.
  2. I cracked such a guilty smile when I heard that genre-specific percussion panned hard left during the intro. I really like everything about this song. All of the rhythmic elements here are sweetly layered and it all just works. The source is taken in a nice new direction. Honestly my only qualm is I would have personally loved if some "live" touches were given to it (eg. crowd ambience, banter from the various people playing the instruments, slightly more realistic room reverb and slapback). Again, a personally-desired touch to be sure, as what's here is solid as adamantium. Sweetness. Delicious and tasty LATIN.
  3. Ahh now THIS is definitive Mazedude. You are working those samples, son. Loved the vinyl intro and the transition into the song proper, and how you kept those lowfi sounds coming back. This is all kinds of retro. The sound design here is so damn good that I just lose myself in it. So much warmth and bitcrushing and reverb and GAH its really hard disecting everything in this thing. Indeed you have achieved the feeling of frozen with this. Above all else the percussion in this song is a fucking all-star. Give yourself a pat on the back from me because it has left my jaw on the floor.
  4. I love everything about the sound design except the drums for some reason (then again, I've always been iffy when it comes to your drums, and I'm getting the feeling its just a personal bias). The kick and snare inparticular are standing out as just not sitting well in the mix. The bass also isn't very present on either my headphones or my monitors. That's normally your style though. Everything else is kickass though, as usual. Great solos and top-notch production. Keep up the good work!
  5. Jumping in here about the trailer (sniping you, fishman). Unless the director has someone specifically selected to do the trailer before submitting the album, the trailer falls to OCR Staff, specifically José the Bronx Rican. With a plate as full as his, we normally wait until very close to release to put the trailer up. Interest in an album due to the trailer stops peaking about a week after the trailer is released. If an album were not out in that amount of time, we lose some heat for it as time goes on. Also other mixes get posted in the meantime which draw attention away from the trailer. (rightfully so, regular mixposts deserve dat love, but its cannibalising our own attention to something else we're putting out) At least that's my take on it, hopefully that makes sense!
  6. THREAD HIJACK This thread is now updated, AND has information about project both OCR-approved AND not. What a huge list. If there's any errors or updates, post about it.
  7. I'll drop these two helpful links since it's kind of a ghost town in here: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35397 - Newbie Guide to OCR http://ocremix.org/info/Album_Project_Guidelines
  8. While I'm not able to help with the music, I have to say I LOVE the puppet you've been putting together. Best of luck!
  9. You might get more of a response if you included more of a description of the project (how many songs, genre or style, etc.) as well as including an example of what you have already written.
  10. Need a tracklist and whatnot before I can list in the active projects thread.
  11. How's your shed?

  12. Damnit stop reviewing songs and let us get your HP to 0! I KNEW I should have been suspicious when you miraculously stopped reviewing mixes a few months ago.

Thank your lucky stars that reviews in the workshop threads do not take away your HP (though that might be a cool idea for another month's theme, eh?)

  13. Welcome, all you awesome newbies! Hope you're all enjoying yourselves 'round here.
  14. Happy birthday! Watch the Star Wars Holiday Special for me, will ya?
  15. This track is another one to mark on the favors that I know owe the OA/DA duo. The track was originally slated to another artist who, after nearly a year of working on a track, ended up being unable to finish. Not to slight the first person's attempt in any way (I know that if they were able to finish it, it would have been very good), but this track is absolutely perfect to end the first disc of Lucid Dreaming and in-itself a very good embodiment of the feelings which dreams produce. If I remember correctly, the title of the track was a mistake being correct in a conversation between the two, and it kind of stuck out as being a good descriptor for the emotions behind the song. This is a love ballad in everything but words, because it doesn't need any. The crisp, shimmering guitars lead as the gated pad and dreamy vocal work from deia carry the song. This is some of OA's most out-of-box guitar work to date, and it shows he's comfortable with his guitar being more exposed and less processed. Deia's vocals are haunting and ethereal, a perfect fit for the song. Overall this is my favorite piece of work from you so far, Andrew, and I mean that with as much of my NiGHTS bias removed as possible. I can't wait to hear what your next collab with Deia sounds like!
  16. Yeah I think this is gonna be accepted. I have no critique even though I dislike the genre. Nice work.
  17. Monobrow gave you some great starter tips while I was being held by criminals in the congo and I had to fight them off one by one to escape (read: busy for the last few months). So take what she gave you and work with it! Overall this mix suffers from its stocky-sounding synths and a lack of melody throughout. It feels very empty. Work that melody line and beef out the samples!
  18. Tindeck link is expired/deleted. Can you reupload?
  19. Nice stuff but the drums sound a bit buried and there's lots of mixer-bumping due to the loudness of instruments. It's got a pumping effect but in a bad way, and I can hear it causing some instruments to distort that shouldn't be. Other than that, I enjoyed it!
  20. VGMix 2 much? I understand people's complaints that regular mixposts might seems fewer this year considering the amount of albums released. Let's just look at the sheer statistics of it: Albums released in 2011 (so far): 9 Albums released in 2010: 4 Albums released in 2009: 4 and it just kinda goes downhill from there. As it has been for a while now, anyone who makes an album that is release through OCR, and is approved and QC'd by us through that, has the right to have some of the songs from the album as part of the OCR database proper. This is the nature of mixfloods. OCR Albums are not by-default consisting of all OC ReMixes. The best thing to think about is that an album is a separate entity from regular mixposts. This is why people submit album tracks to be posted on the site proper: just because you're on an OCR Album doesn't make you an OC ReMixer. Unfortunately I can see no way to get around the issue without playing some kind of favoritism. We release albums as we get them and have them ready to roll. It just so happens that this past year a lot of albums have wrapped up and we've been trying to release them as fast as possible so that we don't end up with an album queue years backlogged. There's also no way to remove the initial mixflood from the process without it being unfair to anyone who stars or releases an album after that time. There has been discussion of interspersing regular mixposts more between mixflood posts, potentially having it all spread out over a few days. It's been on the backburner simply because there are other things we've had to focus on for most of this year. Rozo's suggestion of always having a regular mixpost last kinda seems unfair to an album mixpost if that artist didn't have it as part of the mixflood. Same thing with excluding them from russian roulette or the database. That's basically like saying "your song is either part of an album, or a normal mix on OCR. you can't have both" Also the suggestion of having staff pick favorites as representatives of OCR is a bad idea. When blogs are implemented, yes that is fine, because then its their person opinion. A trailer of staff picks wouldn't work though, nor would anything over the "official" channels for the same reason we don't allow favorites lists in the forums. I'll make sure to bring this up at the next staff meeting though. As I said, it has been discussed before so there's no harm in bringing it up again.
  21. I like it like that. It will keep you all guessing about what it says until you sign into the server. And then, its too late. We have you.
  22. Here's a great tip: 1) go to reviews forums 2) Sort by Number of Reviews (Ascending) 3) review some underreviewed stuff. Who knows, MAYBE YOU'LL FIND SOMETHING NEW YOU LIKE. It could totally happen. It makes me sad to see any reviews thread with less than 10 replies because of how unique all the songs are. Edit: My reviews http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36907 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33010 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36734 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36327 http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=34740
