Looking for a source tune.
MaliceX replied to Eternal Testament's topic in Music Composition & Production
Consider using an XA ripper such as PSXMC on the PS game CD of MSH vs SF. (I have it.) -
Okay, I mananged to get my hands on a (finally) VSTi Vocoder synth (V0c0v, got it from KVR recently). Using the capture plugin as an effect, it can pick up anything the VST effect is picking up (in this case, a passthru of audio) and use the VSTi to play vocoded notes and shit. Now the problem is, using an Audigy and ASIO, for some strange reason Creative decided to be asses and not provide support for Microphone input (analog mix doesn't work, and line in doesn't pick up my mic or anything in ASIO mode) as an option when working in ASIO with the Audigy. Aside from NOT using ASIO or recording then placing the recording through, is there any way to work around this problem? In short Mic in + ASIO(audigy) = Doesn't work. How to go around? EDIT: For those interested in the VSTi vocoder, http://www.g200kg.com/index_e.html

Please use the EDIT button next time if you intend to respond to multi quotes. Well I don't know who Janne Warman is, but I can do fancy effects of various types. I probably should show you some examples of my work. http://rapidshare.com/files/13600772/djtuBIG_MaliceX_-_Portfolio_Jan2007.ogg.html This is just my general portfolio. The 'zany' works are on my ACIDplanet page, others privately kept.

Keep an eye out of the Humans and Gears Remix Project going on at these forums. Also, you can do a search of the piece using the search bars on the left of the window.

That's actually pretty damned well presented despite the cheesiness! I like it though, the guy's got a great sense of touch of rhythm.

Of course, if you are quite familliar with music-making (and I mean familliar), it could sound much better depending on the amount of work you put into it. SPC's can be converted (although sloppily) to MIDI, or you can render them to WAV or another streaming format (provided you want to use the original sounds.) But in many cases, a mere sequence of the main melody/ies would be enough to take from the original. If you DO plan to use a MIDI anyway, you are advised to the following: 1. Ask permission of MIDI sequencer first. (I wouldn't bother if it's a REALLY REALLY SMALL THING you'll use though, but at least let 'em know a remix is being made. ) 2. Make sure you don't use it to its entirety, because it isn't going to work out. (Sounds used will most likely sound like crap unless you're using something like Yamaha XG or a VSTi ROMpler) Take what you need, and build off of that by scratch. Otherwise, plunk the melody in the piano roll, and reimagine it up till what your imagination will allow.

newb resource for orchestration tips?
MaliceX replied to sgx's topic in Music Composition & Production
Someone at another forum presented that link to us and I say it is a highly recommended resource if you plan to become serious at 'basic proper techniques' of orchestral compositional arrangement. Of course, if you can't be bothered reading that, just have yourself listen to dozens of orchestral-esque music (Anything from a movie, or a highly epic game) then whip something out of inspiration. -
Rastan Trance Remix (Aiming for a club version)
MaliceX replied to Sir_NutS's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This might've been like ages now (F4T4L recently showed this to me), but when's the finished version coming? I really like the whole movement you have going on here, and the style of mastering is suiting for this type of mix. (Though somehow the kick could be more prominent, some of the synths have far too much recerb on them in my opinion, resonant keys distort etc; ugly sounding) Otherwise, post the finished version please!! :S -
Does the operating system still work? What does it say upon restarting? Also, does the hard drive say it is empty?

Like MIDI violins or any MIDI variants of acoustics, you will never find one that's perfectly usable UNDER the $x K mark. The main reason is because they are more difficult to engineer than standard controllers.

Remember though, too much latency could cause response issues with the interface in the long-term, although in the end the outcome is better than having a loud buffer stutter that makes your PC speaker curse, or "beep" upon any further actions. If you're using soundfonts, it's 0ms. Otherwise, 2ms is perfect, if you're using one instance though it depends on the plugin AND the computer you are using. (Sometimes, the program matters too. ACID stutters more on low latency compared to Cubase.) NOTE: This is based off of use of an SB Audigy 2.

MIDI can sound good too, it's just the majority of people are too lazy to make such details using a format such as that. This is a sound request. Though there was a version of it further in the game rearranged into a sort of battle theme (that sounded a bit too happy considering the situation it was used in I won't say...) But yeah, I may take up on this.

If time allows, I may participate in this small funtime.

SORRY! It's http://go.to/gamemids or www.mirsoft.info/gamemids Apologies! And DOSBox is all you'll get. Despite the lag, the ripped output should not be as laggy.

80's guitar, any suggestions?
MaliceX replied to Whipsmack's topic in Music Composition & Production
MusicLab RealGuitar. As for amp, lookup "FREEAMPSE" -
I've been going to this forum for several years and i love it but...
MaliceX replied to xinster's topic in General Discussion
Other than that, I believe blINd has some songs up at corners like the Chrono Resurrection (defunct) project page. -
http://go.to.gamemids Have a look-see there.

Perhaps adjust line-in levels and EQ settings if necessary. Line-in tends to have a noise floor on the bottom amp ends, as well as the sound card, most cards tend to put its own EQ on top of line-in playback. Other than that, is this directly connected or through an ASIO mixer?

80's guitar, any suggestions?
MaliceX replied to Whipsmack's topic in Music Composition & Production
Certain synths like the Korg LegacyCell are capable of emulating guitars. You could have a look through some that make use of saturation, sync, distortion or whatever. Also, you can use a real guitar with slayer as well, which sounds as well. Otherwise just get a soundfont. EDIT: forgot to mention, Steinberg/Wizoo Hypersonic 2 has some great guitars; the amp presets it has make it sound like 80's. (I'm talking, it can sound ALMOST IDENTICAL to the guitar lines in the GTA Vice City intro) -
I'm available for any experimental or keyboarding stuff, could whip up a few WAV streams of effects or notation, whichever. (Mainly electronic, keys, or atmospheric phrases.) I use ACID 6 Pro and MIDI sequencing (not simplistic MIDI sequencing mind you...) as a norm.
-
You COULD always buy the MusicLab RealGuitar sampler set. The guitars programmed are the closest you'll get to realism without a real player, in addition they work very well with various effects. Otherwise just get some soundfont or something's dry guitar sample patch, then layer a distortion/overdrive.

Could you give us the URL in question?

You really should be looking at www.yamaha.com (US site) for that. They will most likely have the latest drivers for both Windowns and Macintosh. Or are you looking for a piece of software to make things? In that case, for mac, GarageBand sounds like an idea.
