I enjoy older games becuase they are cheaper for me to enjoy than newer games. The older games I can borrow and emulate or just borrow and play, whereas I have to actually put money in the newer games... And I spend way too much on... Bass guitars for instance. I really gotta cut back on other expenses lol.

Easiest thing to do. Learn how you're system sounds, and then mix. Burn said mix you seem to be happy with and play it in EVERY SINGLE THING IMAGINABLE! And then, when you are finished with that, write down what you think needs to be done and then have your fun. Easier than above: Listen to your favorite pro-tunes and adjust the way you like it as far as bass presence. Done. EDIT: It'd cost you about $200 bucks. The ELC can be free, the mic will run you at least 100 for something decent to do the thing and the ROOM... have no idea. THe bass trap is really like 20 bucks or so. NO idea. Basically, my ideas work better, I have a sub (and crappy monitors, but I digress) and my mixes (with the exception of the one I recently subbed) have all been nice and full sounding. Its really a matter of knowing how much bass is too much. Try mixing without your sub, or with it halfway and hten turn it up Lots of ways to ensure you are in the sex(ily mixed) zone.

I second that idea of not using the MIDI file. I'm working on a CT Battle 2 mix along with everything else I am in the process of remixing (aren't I fun?) and I just figured that out by jamming on my guitar with it. I really really screwed up the chord progression, after I did look at a midi, but it sounded good to me and so I think that'll be one part of the remix. I also try as hard as I possibly can to not take parts from the songs themselves unless they are SUPER INTEGRAL. Like I couldn't imagine a final fantasy battle mix without that ever present bassline, if you know what I mean.

Good work, I definitely recognize some chord changes you like... though I couldn't theoretically tell you what they are at first listen.

I used to scoop mids a lot myself... I used to scoop mids out of everything, but the funny part is, I could never get that tone I wanted (bass or guitar) When I accidentally forgot to apply my normal EQ when I was mixing once, I was surprised at how amazing it sounded. However: You could have a room issue, becuase some rooms do create mid issues. Though I'm not sure which room configurations would actually accentuate those frequencies.

Yeah, that does make sense, but I don't think that yelling really actually has nearly the amount of SPLs necessary to kill a good condenser. Now, if you were recording a kick drum, then that may be a problem Annnnyyyway, yea. Those seem like alright choices to get you started, I mean, I recorded my vocals on a dynamic mic for a long time before I got anything like a condenser so. yea.
